So, for the girl, Sailor Soldiers as the icon of when she has grow up Strong and Elegant women in there life time. As same as I grow up to watching Super Hero like Change Man and Flash Man the Soldiers who temporarily returned Earth as abducted to outer Planet by Alien Hunter Cowler of Mess the Evil empire long times ago when they were the Small baby.

All of the sailor scouts are women, the star lights in the anime were women as well but in human form they are men (alien reference maybe?). Other than that if you see how the two Uranus and Neptune scouts acted towards each other, they were more than 'cousins'. Yet they are one of my favourite characters, still don't give a damn who is in love with who. I have never read read the manga, but I did catch on while watching through the series that they were lesbian.
Yeah, originally, in Japan, they were simply lesbians, but the western world censored the crap out of their relationship. Malachite and Zoicite were gay (both were men in Japan) and the same thing happened to them, Zoicite was made a woman.
Who lied to you? If you've read the manda or watched the anime in japanese you can clearly see Haruka and Michiru are a couple, even Naoko Takeuchi confirmed that. It may not be that explicit but believe me, the relationship is there.
Actually, that's only in the English dub.
In Japan and in SOME of the foreign dubs, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus were in lesbian relationship.
