    Chicago is a real live memory for all of us that grew up in the 70's. It continues on... I cried on the playground in 6th grade when I heard about Terry Kath 😢. I just sat there and couldn't move. His voice was so beautiful that in the 70's it was hard to find a voice like his. It is so vivid in my mind, I remember it being cold outside in Wisconsin

    I understand that Jason had to temporarily leave the band because of a family illness. But the big question is why he didn't return to the band. My guess is that he was not invited back. I don't know the reason. I don't know whether they decided they liked Jeff Coffey better. But even if that was the case, why wasn't Jason asked back after Jeff Coffey left. Or maybe he was asked back but he declined. I kind of doubt that, but it's possible. I'm surprised that John did not ask this question. I hope that the next time John interviews Jason, he asks Jason why he did not return to the group and whether he was asked back.

    Jason is an artist of his time, he's a Baby Boomer, and most Baby Boomers minuspriciate and are uncapable of recognize the talent in today's mainstream artists. I think there are a lot of people that are really good and are making quality music. Just that the music style it's different in many cases from what was hot 30, 40, 50 years ago...But much of that music is heavily eighties and seventies influenced. Many baby boomers don't catch up at all with today's music, or do it too little.
    I think Jason can listen to some contemporary music and know that there are some great artists there that are doing music for the right reasons also, but the music has to be entertaining and catchy, so today's audience wants to buy it or stream it. It has to be appeling for the youngsters and middle age people emerging.
    But sure..Jason has a right to think the way he thinks...I guess he knows that there still are talented people out there, young people that has potential. And for many of us, there is nothing like the great, brilliant, awesome music from eighties and nineties...and in the case of Jason's, the seventies!! 😊 Since he grew up during that time!😏
    And I don't think the recording industry actually collapsed...What really changed is the way it is introduced, promoted, sold and consumed. But there are still a lot of people getting millionaire with music over there.

    Did he discuss what the story is on Danny Seraphine leaving the band?

    • @johnbramsey
      @johnbramsey Рік тому

      This is from Dawayne Bailey: Danny had a violent side and physically fought with a crew member (Jimmy Johnson?) in 1987 and then demanded that Jack Goudie, a beloved crew member, be fired. Jack died within 6 months of a heart attack. Oh, and Jack was co-founder Walt’s brother in law. There was another fight with a drum tech the next year. That’s the background when some drumming snafu in 1990 causes the band to have to stop playing at a live show in Great Britain.
      Danny has a book, “Street Player,” and tells about this. Not that he agreed with the decision to be fired. He did not.

    I wish Jason was still in the band when I saw them a few years back, but it was after he left and it was Jeff Coffey instead, who doesn't have the right voice like Jason does! Jason sounds like Peter Cetera and Jeff sounds more like Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon?

    I wonder if Jason is aware of the unfortunate sh!t talk coming from Robert Lamm during his bandmate introductions. See the 23-minute mark of the following concert footage:
    ua-cam.com/video/w2wW7Y6ZVAM/v-deo.html
    I don't understand why the beef and what good RL thinks comes of this behavior. He has found a new way to say, "this lineup is the best we've ever had." The more I learn about their dynamics, the more I just lose respect for these Titans.

    • @jasonburger3533
      @jasonburger3533 7 місяців тому

      @@lamarravery4094It iui s hard to beat the original lineups of any rock band. The large egos of many members often destroy bands. Chicago was fortunate to have Peter Cetera and Jason Scheff as lead singers for a combined total of 49 years out of their so-far 56 years of existence. The current lineup is turning out some better stuff after the bumps in the rock road after Jason Scheff left in 2016. I agree with you that they were best in their original lineup, but the David Foster-Bill Champlin-Jason Scheff era came in nearly a tie with the originals, but with a more contemporary sound.

  • @EmotionallyExhausted

    Jason's a total class act. Much respect. But this "Chicago was a family" stuff... I don't know. With family like that, who needs enemies? Very petty, mean-spirited stuff, always directed at the members who dared to be popular, or stand out somehow. What they did to Peter was short-sighted and stupid. What they did to Danny was unconscionable, and that was the last straw for me. I prefer the joy of Leonid and Friends over the bitterness of whatever's left of Chicago.

    I loved the interview and have a renewed love for Jason. My mother worked with his father. However, Chicago is one of the most internally ugliest bands, from how they treated Bill Champlin and his vocals sounding "too black" to as far back as Terry wanting to go solo and a million ugly things in between. Robert didn't like the direction of the music, so he sat out recording sessions of '17' only to return when it was doing well and somehow he forever has full credit on the album and a spot in the videos. Strange. Watch the Bill Champlin interview to get just the tip of the iceberg.

    • @svkyseth1
      @svkyseth1 Рік тому +3

      It does seem out of character for this band. And it is not just Bill and Terry either. Peter and Danny are routinely badmouthed and Dewayne Bailey has been erased from their history. Even newer members like Lou Pardini, Jeff Coffey and Tris Imboden have had issues causing their departures.
      I will give Jason this: He is one class act with his attitude.

      Robert sat out for "Chicago 16" because he was going through rehab for drug addiction (it's been confirmed in books and other interviews). He returned for the 17th album and unleashed one of my favorite Chicago songs, "We Can Stop The Hurting." Although I'm grateful for receiving his gifts on that and subsequent albums, I've realized that while I would like to read about the real nitty gritty from the Windy City, I don't care anymore because I'm getting older, too.
      On the brighter side, I love Jason's story about getting his Dad to play the bass solo on "Bigger Than Elvis," I will forever consider him an awesome dude for pulling that off.
      I've never heard about the band's gripe about Bill's vocals sounding "too black" because Terry's personal hero was Ray Charles, and the band covered R&B tunes long before they caught their big break. Chicago will always be my favorite band, but often I'm reminded of Patton Oswalt's standup routine about "I know what I like, and I don't care how it's made!". You'd have to listen to it to understand what I mean, but it makes perfect sense to me. ("At Midnight, I Will Kill George Lucas With a Shovel," if you want to hunt for a good chuckle).
      I'm grateful for the "Born For This" album, but perhaps this should be the last stop on the CTA line.

    • @lamarravery4094
      @lamarravery4094 Рік тому

      @@GarrettWorcester never heard of the comment that Bill sounded too black either. Chicago loved black artists, Ray Charles, Hendrix and EWF. That comment was totally made up. Just listen to their albums, there's some soul there.
      And Lamm's song We Can Stop the Hurting sounded good back in the 80s when homelessness wasn't as big a problem as it is now, but now that song sounds ridiculous. That problem isn't going away, just getting worse, no one can solve that problem.

    As soon as he left he grew his hair out. Was he required to keep his hair short for Chicago??

    • @JasonicaPR
      @JasonicaPR Рік тому +1

      That's a good question! I have wondered that too. As if, while being on Chicago, he had to keep a very formal, elegant , clean cut look with his short haired style. Somehow he left his curls grow again during his later times with Chicago, earlier in 2016, when he started to be absent from gigs. Then, later that year, it was made oficial that he was out, and his hair got longer and longer with time. It was like he said to himself, "I'm free now, I don't have to follow rules, I'll have my hair longer!!" 😀 These are just speculations of mine!😄 But I have the same questions. I think his very long hair symbolizes his freedom from Chicago, and from the challenging role he had to play all those years. And now that Jason has embraced his long hair again, he refuses to cut it!! After so many years of keeping it short.
      I personally prefer his look of when he was a judge in the American Supergroup show. Well defined curls, not so long but beautiful and well cared of. And I love his clean cut image also with shorter hair of past years. The very long curls looked great on Jason when he was much younger, like in his Chicago 21 era in '90, '91 and '92. He looked so young, the sexy rock star!!😃🌟🎸 Now I would prefer him with his curls a little shorter. But Jason may have his hair the way he wants or feel more comfortable with. He looks good with any look!!😄😄💗

      @@JasonicaPRJason Scheff had short and long hair during his time with the Chicago band. It was thick when he joined in 1985 at age 23, then long and curly in 1991 at age 28 and 29 and in 1992 at age 29 and 30. By 1993, it had gone short and alternated between short and long through 2016, when he left the band after 31 years. He does not show any signs of male pattern baldness at age 61. A lot of guys have that before that age. I am glad that he is able to grow his hair out at his age. His musical talents have been many and underrated. He helped Chicago through a tremendous transitional time period. He is said to be a very nice, humble guy. It would be nice if he wrote a memoir.

    • @jasonburger3533

      @@kevgretYes, he had short hair a lot of the time, but in the early 1990s, he had long and curly hair. At 61, it is nice that he shows no signs of male pattern baldness. Long hair on a guy is able to look as good as short hair. A lot of guys would like to have the ability to grow their hair out at his age. His musical talents have been many. He is a humble guy for the music industry and Chicago was fortunate to have had him with their band for 31 years, 1985 through 2016. He still has talent.

  • @JasonicaPR

    No, of course there's no dirt... Only that he almost didn't sing his own songs with the band out of the same couple he often did. Only that they didn't allow him to sing his own songs from 21, they literarily wasted such an amazing album...oh, but Jason is fine with that, how good.🤨 Jason is too much.of a good, nice man....And he may be very ingenue also, but that's him.
    I, as a great Jason Scheff fan, I am very disgusted with many things that happened, or better said, the things that didn't happen during Jason's tenure. At times I wish that he let out the frustration that he should have felt of not being able to sing so many of his own songs. But it seems like he is not ambitious at all, nor believed enough in his songs. So singing the Cetera songs all the time, and at times not singing his own songs at all, was perfectly fine with him.
    He's almost an angel, I know. He just feels an intense gratitude for the band, and not the normal anger or hard feelings that a human being would feel of just singing other person's material and even being forced to imitate the previous singer's style of singing. But it was Jason's dream, he loved being in the band, and I guess he was fulfilled with that.

      Jason Scheff is one of the greatest rock singers ever. A duet concert with Steve Perry, formerly of Journey, would be a fantasy of many. They both could sound great together as rock tenor singers.
