      What is the Orthodox-Catholic church and how it could be one? Orthodox stands for the one that stayed the same for the beginning of time and here is only one truth worthy of God, im totally confused!?

    Very nice. I thought it is russian language, but then i understood too much, and hey, it turns out to be church slavonic, much closer to croatian that i speak. For a moment i thought, hey this russian language is really easy peasy. Linguistic aside, it is still very nice singing. Thank you for the upload.

      I dont have nothing against Croatian nor against Old Slavic. But you can't say for white, black nor yellow or green, when its white. Its more of lucifer to say 99 per cent of truth.

      @@vitaliignatiuk2278 Of course, Church Slavonic is not Russian. It's Old Slavonic which has been edited on several occasions to be closer to spoken Russian. The Slavonic language from the 11th century is basically the Bulgarian dialect of Slavonic. The current church Slavonic is the last edition of the previously Russianized Slavonic. The Novgorod version. So no, it's not Russian (at least not the Pushkin one) "Gospodi vladiko zhivota moego" is not the ruler of my belly. If you know what I mean.

    Why is this chant not used more widely in the OCA? The well-known 19th-century polyphony has its place, but it is not good for small services with a limited choir. There is almost nothing more disturbing than hearing only the alto and tenor lines of an SATB composition, invariably just a little bit out of tune. Why do people insist on inflicting that type of torture on parishioners? The moving and spiritual and uplifting Valaam chant needs only two voices, and it can be sung with just a soloist if necessary.

    • @evang7252
      @evang7252 2 роки тому +1

      i have thought of this and agree. Byzantine Chant is far more fitting for a small parish who cannot have a full choir and this being the Russian Byz adaptation that would be very fitting. Whatever the OCA is doing aint working tho

      I have always thought using 4 part harmonies for amateur volunteer choirs is crazy, it's just too hard to get right - those were written with the expectation of essentially professionally trained choirs in mind I believe. Chanting is so much easier for lay worshipers to join without being distracting with the mistakes. No need to turn liturgy into a Disney soundtrack either.
