Miami to Bimini and back, Long Beach to Catalina Island and back is real OPEN OCEAN OFFSHORE POWERBOAT RACING.

I get a kick out of Stihl sponsoring a superboat, and I keep wondering how many chainsaw engines would it take to replace the big block Chevies. And how weird would it sound? Probably like an invasion of killer bees.

Inshore circuit sprints are boring. Introduce the navigational error potential and broader spectrum of weather to mix it up, and you have something far more compelling. Modern helicopter and drone and filming technology can enable better converge too.

That racing is not spectator friendly. Thus not sponsor friendly. This way it is done in a fixed area so everyone can see the entire race. Closed course is safer also in case of any accidents.

OFFSHORE BOAT RACING IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT. NEVER WAS ONE. Offshore racing is man against nature. I agree with PaddleDogC5. Can these new boats handle a race 5 times longer. (I don't think so) There is no navigation required in today's racing. This is a sport of the 1%ers. Do you really think they get any return on their money that they put into their team. I do not think so. Yes it is a different sport today, but offshore needs to be offshore not a circle race.

Money are you kidding me? I crewed on a team and this sport has NEVER been about earning money. They race for the rush, competition and pretty much bragging rights at the bar and always have. If you like watching boats leave the hot pits and heading out to sea and out of view then fine. But personally I would rather see them racing ( especially when you put time into a boat) and that means close to shore and in close competition. And BTW.. what is a sport with out spectators? ( A dying/dead one)

Read you own reply. they do race for the rush of beating nature and man. of course the bragging rights are a major part of it. big big egos. these are the money people of the world. do you really think that these people care about sponsorship. this is a dead issue. offshore should be offshore. battle the wind, currents, all types of weather is all part of offshore racing. today's offshore racing is exciting. it's just not how offshore was meant to be. Indigo forever !!!!!!!!!!!

Was a member of a race 2001- 2002. If you dont think these boats and crews are tested on these types of racing course. That statement is a joke.take key west when we raced in the worlds , the weather kicked our ass. Up on turn two , you turn into the gulf of mexico better know as the wall..dont knock it if you dont know it.

Hey Guys...After 50 some years of racing cars and some boats I've come to the conclusion We don't bring sand to the beach .. which translates out to We don't bring our GF or our Wives .Why because our focus has got to be 100% on the task we can't be worried about what our GF sees or feels or how she might feel if we wreck all that Bullshit we leave at home...just sayin..In the grand scheme of racing Why burden yourself with BS who feels what ?
