- Good morning from Alaska! We made a lot of progress on our cabin this week. The old bucket foundation is just about gone for good. We are replacing it with three supporting beams. The beams will extend about ten feet out one end of the cabin. I am curious if any of you can guess what we are planning to do with this little place. I think you will like the end result.

When Tanya smiles, you forget that winter is all around, and with each new smile you feel the arrival of spring - this is me, about the state of mind! Judging by the shadow, the house is located with an entrance to the northwest? Or I'm wrong? But if this is the case, then I would reorient the house with the entrance to the south, or southwest. With such powerful beams and a tractor, it would be a doable job! Given the arrival of the polar day, it would be great! Good luck guys from the bottom of my heart!!

Q What did you do at the weekend? A I lifted a house and put new floor beam foundations in. Can't beat that - and baked potatoes too with sour cream. Just love these videos of the two of you - having Tanya around must make all the difference to the work. Nothing you do is short- changed in the slightest. You can tell much time has been spent in the "thinking about it" phase of construction and it shows in the incredible work you do. @@ThisIsMyAlaska Yes, my job bought me down here from NJ, 23 years ago. Several job later, and kids now grown up, we are still here. About 30 miles north of Dallas. Went to Alaska in early March with my whole clan. It was great.
You both are the most hard working people I know and can do anything you set your mind too. Watching you all put that beam under that house the way you did was genius. Great job!! By the way supper looked amazing.

Also much rainfor crops and thunderstorms from the coastal areas pass overhead . I like watching anything being built and Bushcraft. Take care of your health . Youth and strength do not longer on . Hi Gale, Tanya and of course, Stella the wonder dog, lol. First, I am sure Spenard Builders love you, lol. I like that little cabin and the open space around it. Most people want a forest surrounding them but, open spce like yours gives you plenty of opportunity to spot wildlife. I could live in that little cabin 24/7 and have lived in wall tents in the bush in my 74 years. Tanya is a wonderful helper. I like me a bake potato now and then with butter and scallions. Me and Aurora my Australian Shepard will have to take a trip up your way this Summer. We will have that coffee one way or another, lol.

I was living in one when I met Tanya (37 years ago) but figured I had better improve my housing situation if I was ever going to have a chance with her 🤣 so I move into a dry cabin. We love this little place though. It is gong to be a charmer when we are done with it. We’ll get together this summer. Peace

Just discovered this Series i’m enjoying every minute of it 35 years ago my wife and I finished off the house where it framed out and did a lot of work ourselves but not off the grid good Lord are you guys lucky

Well, I thought you might be wanting to use it as an Air B&B! Hahahahaha! That kind of goes against the idea of living off grid and away from the "madding crowds"!!! If this little jewel was mine, I would set up an art studio with a bookshelf containing all my favorite books in one corner; a king-sized bed in another; a small kitchen with only healthy foods; a small stereo in another corner to play only soothing music; and a tiny "Loo" attached to the back end. Then, I'd throw away my cell phone and any way of communicating with the outside world; walk in, close the door and live in peace and serenity until I die! Sounds like Heaven to me!

I always wanted to live in a log cabin at the foot of a mountain. I would ride my horse in to town to pick up provisions. open a frozen salmon frappe shop with a deck on the long side of the beams. Maybe an 10 foot edition, ether way or what ever you do

How ever as I absolutely HATE the Cold, Ice and Snow (even snow and ice on a card makes me shiver) it leads me to suggest you are both Barmy enjoying living in that Blank visa of Snow to the left of you... Snow to the right of you ....Snow in front of you .... and Snow behind you ....and More bloody SNOW beyond that ....Do you ever get the urge to get out the Spray gun and SPRAY the Snow different Colours to brighten up the landscape.
OK I will grant you each to his /her own ... so you can have my share of Snow and Ice as I am most definitely a SUN person.

Greetings, thank you for replying . Yes, near Mt Koskiosko we had snow 8 months of the year and the children went to school on skies. When I was there it was the old township, and very much a pioneering life. The snow plough had to dig us out of our cabin, and our groceries were flown in to the little general store. Cooma, the nearest town, was 100 miles away. We were very isolated. My father helped to build the dams from the Snowy and Murray Rivers. Do read about it, when I was there it was like the film The Man from Snowy River. I love your sweet dog. Please give her a hug from me. Lots of love to you all. ❤❤❤

Good afternoon Steve. The little log cabin I built last winter is our place near town. These other cabins up in the mountains are only a few miles apart. We hope to operate a small lodging business here one day soon. We are still not sure what it will look like entirely, but we know these buildings need some work, so we will start with that
