Opening Statement - Elaine Bredehoft - Amber Heard’s Attorney
Actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation in connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence. Heard’s article did not specifically name Depp as her alleged abuser, but according to Depp’s lawsuit, it relied “on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.” Amber Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.
The defamation trial began Monday in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia, with jury selection completing on the same day. There is a possibility of celebrity witnesses testifying, including James Franco and Elon Musk. Tune in to the Law&Crime Network for daily coverage of this high-profile trial.

Kathy, I was just thinking the same thing, a total nosy gossiping neighbour who can’t keep her nose out of anyone’s business. She sounds like civilian and in no way a lawyer who is educated who actually pass the bar. How is this woman in business making the big bucks. I’m dumbfounded by her argument. She’s not even articulate when giving her gossiping rant. If I close my eyes and just listen to her voice I naturally want to smother her with a pillow. 😵‍💫

Elaine Bredehoft in representing Heard, has been a disgrace. I was curious about her and discovered that most of her background is kept hidden..!!! including her age, her parents, and her marital status. Most of the sites mention her as being on "The Best Lawyers List", which is as much of a joke as "The Best Doctors List". Being on such list has nothing to do with accomplishments. It is a Con Game played by the companies that started such lists. I have had first hand experience in dealing with such Con Games. It starts with a phone call informing the Lawyer or the Doctor that they have been "Selected", and that they have to pay $150 or $200 for the framing of the piece of paper that says they are on the List of the Best..!!!..Some Lawyers and Doctors know it is a Con Game but still figure it is worth it to hang a piece of paper on the wall that says they are the Best. And, of course, you also have some Clueless People who figure it is real, and it is produced by the American Bar Association or by the American Medical Association....!!!

I'm back to compare their opening statements and I definitely agree and the same goes for Rottenborn's opening statement.
He said something along the lines of "The op-ed wasn't about Amber and if it was wouldn't you think she would have gave more details about Depp or state his name?"
Turns out a witness affiliated with the ACLUb(with his emails admitted into evidence)stated the op-ed was about Depp and was revised numerous times to avoid violating the NDA . The only reason Heard didn't go more in detail about Depp was over concerns about the NDA.
Also, I'm sure you heard about the whole Milani makeup palette not being produced until 2017. Lol

It's not all about being detail oriented, you need to have concrete proof/ evidence, and what she did was like convincing the people and the jury to believe that Mr. Depp is a bad person by saying strong words like "Monster". She just kept on telling made up stories, it's too much that her voice was just like a noise from neighbors who were providing false informations.

She IS the worst attorney I have ever seen. An opening statement is supposed to be a summary of the case and what she is intends to prove. It’s certainly not meant to be a biography or bunch of gossip.
It’s entirely too long and unprofessional. When questioning witnesses she asks the same question 30 times and makes it unbearable to watch.
If anyone should be charged with a crime it should be this woman for the mental anguish she has inflicted on the witnesses and everyone having to watch her torture these poor people.
The first mistake you make as an attorney is make the jury hate your client. The second is to make the jury hate you. A civil trial is much different than criminal. It doesn’t have the same burden of proof. It’s more of a popularity contest. The jury doesn’t want to hand a bunch of money to someone they don’t like and that includes the attorneys.

I was thinking about that too. I have emetophobia. The phobia of vomiting, and vomit. If someone vomited near me, you can bet I would not be cleaning up, I would be booking a hotel room or crashing at a friend because I would be GONE. I would hire someone to do it if I have to, but I would not do it - especially if I'm as rich as they are, they can easily get someone to clean it up.
I know that not everyone is equally scared of the subject of their phobia, but this is just so far off. Being disgusted by something and having an irrationally strong fear of it are not the same.

I don’t care who you are man or woman if you want to hurt someone you can. We’re all soft little meat bags that are all capable of being injured. Not saying who is right or wrong in the trial here, but DV typically has a very different dynamic than a nurse trained to physically subdue patients.
DV even has a different dynamic than a home invasion with intended assault.
As a tiny female (not a nurse and not trained to physically subdue patients), I would not be able to defend myself against a male DV perpetrator.
Yet, I was able to run towards and scare off a perpetrator in a 3 am, unexpected home invasion, years ago.
Yet, DV is far different from that.

Right?! Honestly the recordings were all that i ever needed to hear to understand this situation.
Unfortunately because this specific court case is more about free speech vs. libel, since Heard's Post article completely danced around very specific allegations, there's a good chance that Depp loses if the jury thinks the article was vague enough. I have no legal education though so I could be wrong.

It's crazy to me how obvious it is that she's literally taking Johnny's experiences with her and using them as her own. Like the lawyer saying how long it took for her to fight back, when all the audio is Amber yelling at him for not fighting back.
