I have listened to this many times. No one of all the singers celebrate the birth of our redeemer more than Placido. Christ is born‼️HALLELUJAH ⚡️That’s one of the very best News ever‼️The other one is: 💥 Christ is risen ‼️‼️ And: All good news are three: HE WILL SOON COME AGAIN, to create a new world , full of love, without sin, without hate, without death, without crime and war! and without tears FOR EVER 🌈
Somewhere in the Bible is the saying This is the Lord's doing and it is wonderful in our eyes. Everytime we have a conflict in the last weeks, we end getting closer. If my soul was any closer- it would pass through you to the other side. I don't know if you caught Everest, but I myself can't seem to put out the fire.
Of all performances of Cantique de Noel/O Holy Night that I've listened to over the years, Placido's is still my favorite. HIs is truly the most beautiful and expressive performance I have ever heard. You're right. Nobody sings it like him. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
This is our favourite Christmas Carol but only when Placido Domingo sings it. NO one else sings it more beautifully or with more feeling or with a more magnificent voice than Placido! We also get goosebumps and cannot help crying because it really is beyond beautiful and we play it all the time during Christmas season!!! Christmas Blessings to everyone.
This makes me weep when I listen to it,my hair stands on it's end also, very powerfull and beautiful.Thank You Placido Domingo for creating such a work of beautiful art..Peace to all and all the best of the season,Merry Christmas, later.
It's been doing that to me for over 30 years. Every Xmas eve I sit down and listen to it over and over, preferably with headphones. Get all weepy. First heard it on NPR and the announcer, circa 1982-3, was so blown away she couldn't say anything for a few seconds after she played it. Thanks for the clip. I will send it to friends
Beautiful singing is so much more than the ability to hit a G, B or C. Also, singers are human beings, we're not machines or perfect. We get sick, rundown or simply have a bad day just like anyone else. I've heard many singers with great high notes whose voices just didn't give me goosebumps. Domingo's does. And besides, preferences in singing/vocal timbre are very subjective. It's a matter of taste. There is no right or wrong. Domingo's performance of this piece just happens to be my favorite.
Beautiful Music Librarian I want to give your comment more than 10 👍🏻 because you are so right !!!!!!!👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻greetings and have a peaceful 😉 Christmas Time
Yes! My sentiments exactly. This is the only version of this song I ever want to hear. Placido Domingo's singing of this song is perfection. It literally gives me full-body goosebumps, the hair on my arms stands up, I feel slightly breathless and I nearly break down in tears... It's THAT moving for me. I love this beautiful song.
I agree, I think Pavarotti does an excellent job technically with this piece, but I prefer Domingo's version. Placido puts such emotion into each word and the connected lines. I also love the subtlety and nuances in dynamics and the use of glissandos, a nice touch. It also builds perfectly in intensity the way it was written. I love the tempo, just right not to slow or fast. It's not Christmas time until I hear this!!
One of the most stunning versions I've ever heard. I listen to this probably a hundred times during the Christmas season. Josh Groban and Celine Dion also do great versions.
@Agorante My thoughts exactly. People who get caught up in "how high was the note" are missing the point, like a golfer who only wants to know how far a guy hits his driver or 7-iron when the point is to get the ball in the hole. There are tenors who can go higher than C and who couldn't match either Domingo OR Pavarotti simply because they could go higher.
@rexeterna Domingo caps his version with a B Flat - the same key as Caruso's. Lanza sings it a bit higher yet with a top B and Bjorling goes all the way up to the High C. The idea that Domingo can be criicized for not having the extreme top notes of Pavarotti or Gedda or Roswange is just plain dumb. I heard Domingo live many, many times. Pavarotti too. Domingo had a better top, just not quite as high. He was always very solid up to a B Flat. It was better than Pavarotti's C.
Und jedes Jahr höre ich Placido mit meinem schönsten Weihnachtslied. Super .
The best! To God!

My FAVORITE Christmas song. SO intensely emotional - gives me full-body goosebumps. Almost brings me to tears, it's so beautiful.
God loves to show us his Glory when we least expect it

The real most beautful Christmas song; I cried, remembering my childhood and other happy times.Thank you so much, Domingo!

+Carol Gibbs Mario Lanza ,with all respect to Great Domingo!
+nape jack We also love Mario Lanza but only Placido makes us cry and takes us up to heaven.
The greatest Christmas song ever. Bravo!!
Placido's voice never fails to tug at the heart strings.
I have heard many versions of this Christmas song, in a higher or lower key, but what you need are emotions and no one as Plácido Domingo to do so.
This makes me weep when I listen to it,my hair stands on it's end also, very powerfull and beautiful.Thank You Placido Domingo for creating such a work of beautiful art..Peace to all and all the best of the season,Merry Christmas, later.

The only Christmas song I listen to out of season
Very true.
But Mario Lanza's version is much better and appropriately upbeat (given the subject!).
Heaven must sound and feel like this, I just love it so much, gives peace to our spirits.I thank God for such beautiful voice and music.
I don't think anyone could possibly sing this better than Domingo!!!
Give Jussi Bjorling a listen
Mario Lanza does and his English is articulate.
I would have to agree. Gives me chills too.
absolutely amazing...voice from heaven. i get goosebumps.
So beautiful.
what a galvanizing rendition! WOW!!! amazing plácido!
amazing. absolutely moving and stunning technique.

Mario Lanza's version is by far the best.
i very agree with you, never forget Domingo's soft voice

Excepto Mario Lanza......
WOW!
And its the Canadian version: English/French.
Merci kamikazekate, c'est beau! :-)
The inspiration of this Song is Jesus Christ and His holy travel from the stable to the Cross.
Fantastic singer also.

❤
Willie K from Hawaii does a great job at it...pluss he playin guitar.
@aiisliingK Hi AiisliingK, Definitely brillant!
Skillz.
Wow...and they say Groban nails this.
It's a joke really.
Ne plus ultra.

Your comments put to rest those who wrongfully criticise the great tenor.
@rexeterna Thanks for the comment.
@aiisliingK Hi AiisliingK, Definitely Jussi is the man! Love placido but was raised on Jussi! There is definitely no one better.
Noooooo! Placido equals million Jussi Björlings...
Some please help me learn sponsor me to go study opera music so I can feel the gap between when these guys go to Sing for God
before talking about doming, WASH YOUR MOUTH WITH SOUP
Rexeterna -
I find it obvious you are not a vocalist... and until you are at Domingo's level, I would ask you keep your opinions to yourself.
