  • I present a demonstration of the Stipple feature of the Silhouette Curio. This video shows how to convert shapes, web images, and photographs to a stipple design in Silhouette Studio, and you can see the Curio in action as it stipples. I didn't stay for the second day of the Sihlouette conference in Peachtree City because I had to immediately drive down to Central Florida, but I am glad I found your Cuiro tutorial on UA-cam. Thank you, it was most helpful in learning about my newest Silhouette machine!

+Kathy Mathis Sorry you missed the Curio class, but I'm glad you found the video helpful! (We weren't able to cover this part in the class anyway.) :)

Not what I thought. I did learn a lot though. I was hoping it to be done on metal with the embossing pen/blade? I wasn't expecting paper n pen. Can you do this on metal with the metal embossing blade? Thanks for taking the time to reach us.

You can absolutely stipple on metal! The process to set up the stipple design in the software is basically the same as in this video, but you use your Curio emboss mat, the etching/stippling tool (not the same as the embossing tool), and metal stippling sheets instead of a pen and paper. I have a tutorial here: www.findingtimetocreate.com/2016/01/stippled-metal-art/ and another here: www.findingtimetocreate.com/2017/01/one-inspirational-word-curio-style/

+tessa luis If you don't have a Silhouette machine already, the Curio may not be the best first choice. For scrapbooking, vinyl, and cardmaking I recommend the Silhouette Portrait or Silhouette Cameo first. The Curio is smaller and does more specialized tasks like stippling, metal etching, and embossing. It goes in a different direction for its primary tasks and is very fun, but less versatile for traditional cut jobs. I hope that helps!

is it possible with this machine emboss the edges of the image after being stippled?

+alfmo7 If you use the emboss mat instead of the cut mat as your mat for stippling, then yes, you could deboss the edges of the image after stippling. You don't want to remove the paper and lose your place, but if it stays put you can easily deboss with the embossing tool. A deboss presses into the paper, but embossing requires that you flip the paper over and press on the back side for a raised surface emboss. That would not work unless you go through extra steps to add registration marks (and that is possible, too, just more steps).
