These videos are so good and underrated. So much effort has gone into them. 🙂 The story telling and style is all on point, and really keeps the attention going.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but I have now watched a few videos and have noticed that the audio is consistently EXTREMELY rumbling/bassy, and comes from an odd direction... With a headset on, it sounds like the audio comes from behind my head, rather in front or into the ears like normal. Almost as if the audio was recorded into a Binaural Microphone, where the person speaking stood on the wrong side of the mic. It is most likely an editing decision being done to make the audio sound "deeper", but it has been overdone my quite a margin. Maybe the audio is being edited while listening through a speaker, rather than a proper headset?
I should probably add that this is for the videos that are edited in the same way as this one. The ones where you have a facecam sounds absolutely fine.
You can do whatever with my audio feedback, I just think it is too bad since it can make some people dizzy after a while of listening. Which is a shame since this is some of the best story telling content I have ever seen on WoW. 🙂 Would love to see this channel blow up.

      Hey Dani!
Jesse here! Just wanted to thank you for the awesome feedback. Full disclosure, I am no expert with anything audio related so the issue could come from a variety of issues.
First and foremost - I record in Stero setting instead of Mono. Doing a bit of research since your comment has yielded that perhaps this may be the cause for the issue - especially since Jeff, master Editor and artist for TLC, passes over some effects in the final editing stages of the video. We're going to try recording the next video in pure mono instead in hopes of fixing the issue and we'll refer back to it! I'm the one who edits the narration and cleans it up using closed headsets for those micro-noises that pop up on occasion.
We also pass some effects at the end of the project when music/sound effects are added. We usually apply a de-esser, a Multiband compressor, and a sliiiight bit of reverb. We've also started dabbling with Adobe Essential Sounds workflow and using the Podcast Voice' EQ preset but maybe the combo of everything is leading to the dizzy-inducing sound on the files.
We really do appreciate your feedback and if you got any more to add, feel free to reach out directly on Twitter or Discord! We're always looking to improve! Thelostcodex on twitter!
Glad you love our content - we've been at it for 6 years now. Sadly haven't blown up yet but we've accepted that our type of content isn't the kind to gather massive subscribers via YT Algorithm. Since it takes a few weeks to make, our content is long-spread out sadly but we've come to accept that.
Again, always looking to improve so please reach out!

@@TheLostCodex Hi Jesse, I'm glad you took my comment so well hehe. I know from my own channel how it can come off when viewers try to give "feedback". 🙂
I personally record using stereo as well and don't think that is the issue, but you can always try it and see if it gives a different result. When I edit my videos I always start by removing any background noise in Audition, and then continue to use Premiere where I also use Multiband Compressor alongside a few other effects, to make my voice sound richer and remove any unwanted audio. Although usually I remove all reverb, but since our video styles are different I can't speak for yours hehe.
I think you might be right that mixing different methods of audio enhancement on top of each other, is what is causing the issue. If you use Premiere, I would recommend finding a guide on how to get the audio you are looking using just Premiere/Audacity, without using all sorts of mixed software. 🙂 I really hope you figure something out. 😊 Audio can be difficult to get just right hehe.
And you are absolutely right, WoW content can be extremely difficult to get going if you don't focus on news or guides. I have all fingers crossed for your content, and will definitely continue to watch it since it is so far above anything else I have found. 🙂

Hey Dani! I totally missed the notification for your second comment here so apologies!
I’ll definitely try and take some of that into account. We’re working on a new series and I’ll work on trying some new settings to try and get the sound just right - little tricky as I record and edit my own stuff but our producer also passes the audio through filters in Premiere but we can try and isolate where the problem is originating!
Thanks for the feedback! Door is always open :) thanks for being a fan!

    • @TheLostCodex

Video production is a time consuming thing. We make next to no money off of our content - each video does maybe 1-2k in views and in all reality, that is not sustainable to spend 80+ hours on one video only for it to flop like that
We've tried making new types of content during BFA and SL and they didn't do well.
Always open to suggestions but commenting "You are making almost no videos" when, in fact, we are isn't exactly helpful.
