Being a California girl i wasnt present for this concert. But it was performed the day before my 22nd birthday. I would play along with this album on my violin. And played at playing guitar with it. And my silly little metal flute. And lest we foget my tambourine too. Quite well I might say. I would have loved to have had a cello, viola, and piano to work on too.The Broadsword and the Beast, became my new favorite Tull album the 1st time I heard it. Amazingly, though a few years have passed, it still fits the bill. Jethro Tull I must say is my all time favorite band.

A mandolin would have been the icing on the cake.

This is a very good rendition of the song. The Broadsword... album actually is the 1980s Jethro Tull at its best, fusing old and new (another goodie from this period in my opinion is Walk Into Light) but this live version is somewhat tighter; it has got this 'willowing" guitar underlay that keeps it together, and allows all keyboard decorations to segue effortlessly into the sound canvas. Many thanks for sharing.

Good ol' Gerry Conway on the kit (RIP). I saw this tour and Tull opened for the Who. Tull won the blue ribbon that night ! This was a very good lineup of musicians for the Broadsword tour.

The last classic Tull album. Since then it's been a downhill slide into obscurity!

I see this is 1982. I believe the Broadsword and the Beast album was released in 1983. So I wonder if this was a performance prior to the release of the album?
B&B was the last album on which Ian Anderson displayed his beautiful rich classic voice; by 1987, when Crest of a Knave came out, he had lost a significant proportion of his voice. Interestingly, however, even on this video where he is still hitting the notes, the tonality of his voice is starting to change towards what was obviously established vocal damaged by the 1990s. I wonder what his ENT diagnosis was…
What an absolutely fabulous band. I have a soft spot for their output in the 1970s, (their folk-rock phase which lasted till about 1983).

I would recognize them by their rifts. Their style. Their sound. Sadly not their faces.
Funny note here: I saw them in concert in 1998 (I think) in the rural town of Anderson, California. Outside, in the evening, probably less than 1,000 people (perfect for me) 5 ft from the gate, right in the middle of the stage. It was so perfect. The funny part was I couldn't get over how much he (Ian) looked as I had pictured him in my mind since 1974. I had only seen one or two pics of him. I hope we rocked them well. To show our appreciation. He opened with "It's nice to come to a town named after you." OH, how I wished I could go back stage and meet them.

Brilliant. Still think a 58 on the vocals would have been a better choice, though 😎

Have this poem, don't be sad.
      Nightwalkers
Spellbound with the wonder of our journey,
We ventured to embrace that fragrant dark.
Transformed by sense and sound to nightwalkers,
      We were star-stalkers, flower-followers too.
We paused beside the mirador to view
The dusty Duero and listened to its song.
Echoing in its brown depths we heard
The history of this place and this world.
Before us, the cathedral aspired to heaven,
And we stood, earthbound and amazed with
      Uncertain footing and incoherent saying,
Like lovers, entranced at first meeting.
In the end, prattling voices in the plaza and
The echoed answer of glasses broke the spell.
Turning to retrace our homeward path,
Night blossoms swathed us in their warm dark.
