@@ethanknight8461 the feeling functions are still rational functions, but they are subject oriented rather than object oriented. This means thatactually it could be pretty useful and would totally fit the thinking locigal framework IF there is a goal to be achieved.
@@ethanknight8461 that's immature thinking, as an entp i've come to realize that feelings have their own place in the world. Yes, sometimes you need to turn them off for productivity and such, but they still do have their value and usefulness.

one of my biggest fears is to be average, to not stand out, that’s really accurate, and I hate the thought of not being appreciated or admired for what I’m doing. I met this INTJ that stood out to me, ‘cause not only was he incredibly smart, but he admired me for my intelligence... he actually liked it, you know? I’m not superficially intelectual; I don’t have this intelectual appearance, so most people don’t realize how much I like being appreciated for my brain. most people I know don’t give me the chance to talk about, like, cosmology and black holes or to debate edison and tesla... and intj did. he was confident and cool, but known to be a know it all, and I loved to be a know it all with him and be appreciated for that. I never quite understood what made me like him so much, but this video, unintentionally, made it so clear to me.
I can relate to that. In the world of romantic relationships, I've found that there can also be danger in being attracted to people because they're attracted to us. While it's cool to intellectually impress people, I already know that I can if given the chance, so I can end up in a relationship with someone that I'm not actually attracted to (intellectually that is...;)). I dated a girl who asked me one night why I loved her. She was feeling insecure because she said she could list lots of reasons that she was attracted to me. It was a rough moment for me because I didn't know how to respond...crickets for like 10 seconds. I really did think I loved her, but I guess I didn't know why. We ended up breaking up not too long after that. After lots of reflection over the following days/months I realized that I liked her because she did what no one else had: encourage me to verbalize my ideas and thought processes and admire them. But, I now realize that I need to be with someone because of who they are, not just because they validated who I am. Idk if that resonates with you, but I thought I'd share.
As an old ENTP , 74 years old, and having had many various creative careers, I have had to learn to restrain and focus energy into a single area, at least for a period of time, in order to actually get something done, rather than just think about getting various things done. The danger is in overvaluing thinking without real action.
I'm an ENTP and about to be 40. I am barely starting to harness the ability to focus on a project and see it through without getting distracted to the project's complete detriment.
@@ambertorres5358 I think becoming a well rounded person is important; I like options 😅 but likewise finding something that meets your strengths is much easier than trying to overcompensate you’re weakness’. Example: I struggled in a typical 9-5 Bureaucratic job with lots of paper work. I hated it and did poorly. Now, I work the same job but with 2nd/ 3rd shift hours that are more chaotic. Paper work is still there but I benefit from being able to use my bursts of energy. I love it and do well.
One illustration I found interesting was that a dam impedes the flow of a river, but it turns the water's power into electricity. The Art of Manliness has an article with a title like "Creativity Needs a Conduit."
Yeah, following what you really want also makes it more likely that you fail and don't get it. I used to just keep every option open, but now I have decided to maybe follow just one path. That is very scary.

As an ENTP I’m def not scared of being disliked but I am uncomfortable w the idea of being unappreciated. I usually couldn’t care less of what others think of me or if the people I don’t really know or like, dislike me. But if a close friend starts acting unappreciative towards me I think that’s where I draw the line.
When I was in my teens, I wondered why *swole* people were so happy. Three-and-a-half years later, I think I got it figured. Presently on a de-load week (a real plateau-breaker), and the lack of *pump* is starting to get me.

Well if you'd ask me, H2O is water and every matter can be any of the common three states of matter. Solid being one of those states, means that water is a solid too and we just happened to give a different name to solid water. A matter changing into one of these states doesn't change the matter itself. Hence, ice and water are the same thing how frozen and liquid Helium are both the same thing as Helium gas

ENTP here. Loved the video. I hate the idea of being trapped to everyday life and order so much every time I go for a job interview and they tell me things that show I can stay in that job for like 10 years I scream on the inside because of how boring that sounds. "Unappreciated" is soo true, I don't care if you dislike me, know the reason. I really want to say you nailed the part "they can keep up with them" OH DEAR THE PAIN. I look at things 3 times to make sure I don't miss anything and there are still details I don't see. "No honour" as you said we are very adaptable, everyone can be as adaptable but not everyone sees it. It's crazy how one person could be anyone believing in anything depending on the way they grew up so for me, I choose for a reason what I believe and why. What if one day I decide I don't give an f? That's scary. It would work for everyone but most people don't seem to question their beliefs. I love taking to people and learning about their beliefs and background to see what shaped them. Also it's insane to me how can you stand for something with your whole heart just because. Some times I have interest in them because I wonder how can they be so clueless living in a bubble, oopsie. Elena Kat inflexibility in values frustrates me to no end. If there’s a logical solution in front of you that hurts nothing and no one except a principle, it’s the worst kind of brick wall to hit up against.
I found a way around that. So the thing I believe in is myself. And if I value myself so much then whatever current (not too long lasting) ideology I have must be strong enough to bear all and any scrutinization. And as thing that attaches me to the world, is ambition. How far can I take myself in the world.
ENTP here. And I DO wish that I could pick a hill. There's something romantic about the whole affair. Whether they reasoned it out, or didn't. There's a certain admiration I have for stubborn people. I'll never be that person though. I'll either over-think the position, or flow with a position. And I agree most with the 'lack of options' fear. Anyone who understands claustrophobia can probably guess how it feels to pin us into an ever shrinking room of possibilities. I literally feel like I can't breath, and it's only metaphorical.

INTP here and I agree on the claustrophobia caused by an ever shrinking room of possibilities. That also seems to mirror the way TJ types approach problems. They try to seek out the one option/solution/strategy etc. and stick to it until they reached their end goal. An FJ or FP type can be quite rigid in their moral values because that´s the pattern (to view and judge and evaluate the world) that "feels" right to them beyond the need for a logical validation - so they stick to it until the end... on the hill. Hope that´s not too wrong, if so - please correct me - I´m feeling a bit under the weather since I have to wash my hands every ten minutes.

@@lovewho What I tried to say is that there could be a parallel between people with rigid values and rigid goal orientation - that these traits are somewhat linked. The undeveloped Fi in ENTPs and INTPs and their inferior Te could to some extent be mirrored by strong(er) Fi and Te in TJ - types. The thing that makes ENTPs go with the flow in moral and intellectual matters, also makes them less goal oriented.
Insightful. Thank you. We are on a quest for truth, so we have to be detached, critical, rational observers. We can't allow ourselves to be influenced by dogma or limited by our own perceptions. But once we are on solid ground, we are inflexible.
As an ENTP, finding that hill is an awesome feeling, after years of searching. I specifically chose a career that requires me to have a vast pool of knowledge (So it never gets boring) and almost everything is up to debate (So it never gets dull), that being Economics.

Being suddenly thrust into chaos gives you perspective and distance. That sense of distance enhances the function of Ne and the decider/rational functions, sometimes providing sudden clarity about the meaning, structure, and function of a situation. ENTPs provoke chaotic situations because they know that they will outperform the other types in chaotic arenas.
To me (intp), my main fear is to be with an entp ! They're smart enough to impress people, but in the long run they waste their time doing it and loose their talent/qualities. Ok, i'm a bit jealous too because they are less serious/valuable/precise than their introvert counterpart, but are still better at dating/job interviews :P
I know intps who have learnt how to "fake" extraversion extremely well (well enough to convince me atleast, someone who likes to analyse every person I interact with and has been into mbti for years) and the rest of the world. If you can develop that skill you'll have the best of both worlds :) as an infp I have found having an extraversion facade that I can maintain for a limited amount of time, to be very useful

Yes yes yes. In dark times I really wish I didn't need to have a reason for my preferences. It's feels.... Uncomfortable to just like/value something just because it 'feels right to me' because I need to be able to defend that preference with logic.... Because I'm usually poking at other people's lack of logic. Lmao! People who have lead Fi really are fascinating. I have an enfp friend and though we have so much in common we are also incredibly different in our approach to things though we aim for the same outcome which is very fun to analyze. I think as much as we fear that rigidity and structure it's a love/hate relationship because we need it if we are going to be able to perform at optimum level. Le sigh. Guve this person money, guys! Erin In Florida i never got why either. I think INTJ is a way better match. ENTPs would get tired of how emotional and sensitive INFJs can be. INTJs, on the other hand, can be just as rational as an ENTP and, in general, I think they compliment us better.
I recently only got classified as an ENTP in my late 20s. And oh my goodness sir, I used to write love letters literally addressed to chaos and play out debates as poems in high school. As an ENTP, I just relate too much with what you say: the fear of seeing doors closing (i never knew how to put words on it), and most importantly, you made me discovered why i was fascinated by some persons, because they are able (well, they don't know how to do the countrary, it's more like a "they have to" than a "they are able" to, but anyway) to, as you said, pick a color and stick with it, which most of us can't do. Also, you are right on the fact we fear about even ourselves can think about, as sometimes i don't even know what my opinion is, as I do so much the devil's advocate. Finally, i just don't know if we don't have an opinion, if we, deep inside, have an opinion but defend others, or if we have all opinions at the same time. I don’t think the thing with ENTPs atleast for me is not knowing what they believe it’s questioning things for others to help them realize that they need to see all sides before choosing a side which most people don’t do, and is what we do constantly in our brains. So we point out flaws in other peoples reasoning whether we agree with it or not to ensure they are considering all sides.

I often feel like i want to understand how others perceive me but it is very hard too see oneself clearly. Or thats what it feels like to me. I can agree with everything you say in this video.
When my friends get in a fight or my family I can usually see where they are coming from and kinda live through them for a little bit and usually solve the problem. To be able to switch perspectives so quickly is maybe a reason that we don't like to stay in one place physically and metaphorically, why should we learn one story when we can learn multiple.
Since I was 8 or 9 I've developed a habit of reviewing details multiple times in forms, exams etc. But even after detailed revisting of such details I sometimes find very minute stupid mistakes but I remember writing them right. It's annoying and frightening. I always make sure I'm completely right.

Being disliked is not really an issue...i often see this, as a...challenge. Being disliked is a mystery : WHY does this person doesn't like me ? How to regain this ? How to fix this, and discover what i don't know ? Being ignored, or just unappreciated is really hard, though.

NOTHING makes me more angry than a small detail that is incredibly consequential. Usually it’s an administrative thing. So stupid, dictatorial, arbitrary, and completely unrelated to the overall value of something.
As an ENTP I view FoS and the tolerance of opposing viewpoints (no matter how "offensive") to be an absolute necessity of a functioning and healthy society. Any legislation which proposes a slight reduction in such freedom should be met with the destruction and reimagination of all legislative bodies so that this sort of tyranny is less likely to prop up again in the future, even if it means violence.
As an ENTP, I resonate a lot with the description about the fascination with people who believe in things just because. Mainly I find this fascination in people with faith and religion. To completely go into a belief system or completely reject it, I can't do that. I would love to understand how that is possible. I end up being agnostic, open to whatever is or is not out there

Often I think I've mistyped myself with entj but after studying more on the mbti I noticed I'm more of an entp than entj, because of this I spent weeks in home scrutinizing on exactly what type I have, guess I didn't like being unauthentic. Now Im sure that my type is entp and this video relates to me more.
very accurate... and helpful, thanks again! Suffocating feeling can appear when I seemingly lose options or need to do compulsory down-to-earth basic s.../things. Also, there's fear that I'm not aware of some very straightforward physical detail, so I usually call my friends to explain/show them what I want and ask them if I overlooked something obvious. (Once I was calling someone on my mobile phone, telling that I'm not sure I can call later since I don't find my phone...) But the biggest fear is, what if I can't even stick to things that are important to me. There are times when I live by a different "code" than other times. Audience, also yes.
Holy cannoli, I've always loved your videos but this one influenced my opinion about mbti more than maybe any other video I've seen so far... The thing is that I've been interested in mbti for close to 2 years now, but I've been struggling with typing myself, _a lot._ I blame the combination of my mental issues and all the (often contradictory) information online, but for the longest time I would always get INTJ, ENTP or ENTJ as a result (a bit absurd, I know, but I'm almost 50/50 on the J/P axis and only slightly extroverted). And if I go function by function, I relate to the descriptions of xNTJ's function stack way better. But then I see the descriptions of ENTPs as whole and... yep, I totally see the resemblance. And every single thing (not exaggerating) you said in this video really hit home for me. That thing about being a chameleon - sometimes it feels like I'm a completely different person on/off work etc. And the thing about being scared of how far can you go in the (moral) adaptability - ever since I was a child I remember instinctively knowing that if I wanted to and the situation called for it, I could do almost anything, including some bad stuff, and that idea terrified me and made me extra careful in making sure that I never become an asshole. Damn... Sorry for venting, but this video is really some eye opening stuff for me. So long story short, thanks for making me simultaneously more confused and clearer about mbti than ever, and giving me yet another thing to obsess over during this quarantine 👍
These are just stereotypes and don't necessarily reflect all ENTPs. If you want to really understand mbti and your type you need to become fully immersed in the cognitive functions and how they work in conjunction with each other.
@@micahgmiranda You're right, but this is exactly what has been the problem for me. When I go by functions, I see myself in the descriptions of xNTJ's function stack, but when I go by descriptions of the types as whole, ENTP starts seeming like a very close match. Example of what I mean - they say that Te users are more objective in their logic (duh...), are more likely to use facts and objectively true statements to support their arguments, are more efficiency oriented, and can become pretty blunt/bossy, always giving people practical advice on how to enhance life... whereas Ti goes deeper, cares about fewer topics, but is interested in mastering them + also mainly cares about what the user thinks of something, not what people in general think. When I think of my thought process here, especially compared to how my family members act, I fairly neatly match with the description of Te. Except... ENTPs use Ti and they aren't limited to a few areas of interest, quite the opposite, I would assume that as NTs, their advice will also be more practical than emotional, and since they crave the approval of others they will also at least somewhat care about efficiency... This is what's tripping me up. I get that the functions always more or less balance each other out - Ne opens up more options for the more close-minded Ti, whereas Ni helps pick up the "right" pattern from the vast amount of various information that Te collects, etc. Doesn't that seem fairly similar at the end of the day? Or another conundrum - I show emotions easily, though humor, mimics, gestures, the tone of my voice etc. Yet I generally prefer my inner sense of morality over just shared values. _Aaand_ at the same time I'm a slut for praise and being valued by the group. What does that make me (besides insecure)? :D I feel like in some ways, I'm almost _too_ immersed in functions nowadays, almost to the point of drowning...

Let me break down the functions in the easier to understand way that objective personality uses: N and S are Observers this is only about absorbing information T and F are Deciders this is only about choosing what to do with that information Ne and Se are Gathering Ne is gathering ideas, Se is gathering facts NI and SI are Organizing Ni is organizing ideas, Si is organizing facts Te and Fe are Tribe Te is what works for others, Fe is how others feel Ti and Fi are Self Ti is your reasons, Fi is your values N and S work in tandem, as do T and F Ne and Ni are both N they still both exist simultaneously, but one is dominant You can see here I have all these ideas(Ne) and I'm putting them into a list(Si) This makes sense to me(Ti) and I'm explaining it to you because I want you to enjoy this knowledge(Fe)
Thank you for the video! INFP here and my boyfriend is ENTP. So we argue (he starts 99% of the arguments) and we debate then for 1 hour. It drains me but he loves debating. Whenevr I say something, 90% of the timing, he starts with, "no" - just for the sake of it and making me find arguments to prove him wrong. Also interesting time these days, I ve observed his behaviour and we dont manage lockdown the same way. I dont really care to stay at home as an INFP but he cannot stand it and what you described regarding the details on the tax thing is exactly true! We ecperienced it! As an INTJ, I have a friend that’s an ENTP and I can only take them for so long before I’m like “okay, need a break from going in circles for the sake of it”. As an INTJ, going in circles for the sake of mental sparring isn’t interesting after a certain point. Often I find they like to straddle the philosophical line and that’s fine but after a point it just comes off as wishy washy to an INTJ (and we’re anything but wishy washy when it comes to a point we’re trying to make). We don’t ‘debate’ for debating sake like they do. And if we start to get the notion they’re just disagreeing to be contradictory with no real point or stance that will get on our nerves and I know for me I just mentally disengage as it being a waste of my time and mental energy. And INTJs *HATE* wasting our time and mental energy so I have to deal with them in doses. Their need to be *seen* is just not an INTJs jam (we literally are the opposite in that respect we could care less to be seen) so it’s a little like grasping for ‘likes’ the way they go about it to me as an INTJ. In general, I do think they’re a cool type but I will say as an INTJ we do have differences that require me to say bye for now...here and there.
We ENTPs tire people out easily. It's not easy to deal with us, especially when we're just 'in the moment'. Of course the point of the wishy washy stuff for us is exploration. We'll eventually find details if we circle back to the same point. It's the most whimsical thing about us. Everything else is fairly Machiavellian. Of course I'v chosen something, that's easy. It's almost too easy. I find that part boring. After a long while you see patterns, and can use intuitive and or logical short cuts to cull dozens of options. I think most people view options as a one and done deal. I view it more like a competition, with an open invite for new challengers. There's always a winner, but there's also always a usurper too. I think you getting distance is the smartest move. Even when we can understand a different types, that doesn't make them more enjoyable to be around. I really understand why people find us annoying, mean, rambley, ect....but it doesn't automatically change my persona. I'm still gonna be me, I may mute those qualities if I can sense it's driving another batty. But that's about it.
@@Niveous23 Some people choose a particular option (out of a given set) in the spur of the moment. Some make their choice based on traditional way of doing things. Some others choose a particular option out of the same set after careful deliberation and consideration. Those three are not the same. So, saying that choosing a given option is too easy is not a correct assessment. You have to know who is making the choice and why.
We don't debate "for no reason". We debate because we want you to prove us wrong. People beliefs are partially based on unconscious biases. If we see things that you can't(and we do), we need to make sure that you can justify your stance. If your belief stands up to scrutiny, then we might consider adopting your position. We will do more research to reload and make another pass at attempting to shoot your beliefs down. Nothing personal.
Dawn Hodges...well that’s not surprising, but what *IS surprising* to me as an INTJ is that you somehow thought you were being ‘clever’ by saying how small of an attention span you ENTPs apparently have 🤷🏽♀️ And this ladies and gentlemen is why I (and I suspect many INTJs) have to take a break from ENTs (both P & J) in general because they always seem to think they’re more clever than they actually are 😏
I believe that the fear of being disliked is tied to the fear of being limited. I try to keep everyone I come across happy, not because I care about them, but what they may be able to provide in the future. It's a form of keeping social options open. I also 100% agree with the performer theory. The irony of being a mental performer, at least in my experience, is that it's easy to confuse and push people away because of the mental gymnastics.
It was difficult for me to find that I'm neurotic ENTP more than INTP. Ne and Ti are strongest functions, and they are near equal, but my Fe is stronger than Si.
You are exactly right about the not necessarily being liked part, however exactly you said it. When I was in school there was a person who admired my skill with words, bravado, etc. very much. They did not like me even a little bit. They enjoyed me and I enjoyed them and they would have gladly been my assistant in taking over the world and we both knew it, and we both knew it would be because they were under the impression that they could then kill me and take over after I'd done all the hard work and I was under the absolute certainty that they would be working harder and taking more of the blame for everything that happened that people didn't like and then I would "take over" and discard them, if taking over the world was something I wanted to do in the first place.I really miss that person. They really saw my potential and spurred me on to greater success.
I really enjoyed Star Trek’s Kirk/Spock emotion/logic dichotomy at age 9. It’s looking like I am an ENTP. Although I do have principles that I would die for and I hope honour in that sense... Those principles hinge on logic and their predictive utility. I would imagine Orwell was an ENTP.
The worst fears of each personality type! Cool concept! I think it can be useful to people who are unsure about their type. Fears and triggers can tell you a lot more about yourself than a generic type description.
Interesting. I've noticed most of the extraverts and certainly ENTPs are going a bit mad because of this isolation. Although ENTPs can be introverted in the sense of being able to tolerate alone time and focus in their caves and work on stuff for ages, that ability to interact and bounce off people is so essential for them ~ Nathan
@@lovewho Yes, that's also a very good observation, I only really noticed that a week or two ago! I managed to find a way to minimize that feeling by hanging out on vocal chat with people I know only from some streams, but I'm almost sure it's going to wear off as soon as the novelty of it will wear off too. Like, I knew hanging out with friends and family helped me get better, but I never realized how much I needed them and just enjoyed chatting with baristas. Thanks for the insight! :)
ENTP here and I agree for the most part. I wouldn't necessarily say we fear being disliked. If we contribute something then yes, we want it to be recognized. However, if someone simply doesn't like me or my value added I could care less of their opinion. The fact that they gave feedback that they dislike me still shows they listened and recognized my input, therefore I walk away content.

The war between scratching the itch to debate or be confrontational and to be liked and both being the most important thing at different times is a real issue. It is so hard. I am carefree and more likable around strangers. I love traveling for this. I start thinking too much and clam up around people I have to be nice all the time to for the sake of my kiddos. It wears me out to hold it all in. I try to be nice to all people but heaven help you in you are put on my indifference list. I find that Martial arts is a good outlet for me, specifically BJJ.
Embrace the change I always say or in the current climate embrace the chaos. I find a strange comfort in change. When you mention a desire to pick a colour I agree. It would be nice to have identified a sole passion/interest. One that makes you want to dedicate your whole time/energy to. People who have managed that I find interesting.

I definitely relate to the fear of commitment, not just with my decisions and career choices (and all my choices... here's that logic as to why I'm single lol XD l^; ) but also with beliefs. I've always found it hard to maintain a strong opinion, that's probably why I prefer to interrogate others' so I can understand them and why they hold a particular view or what evidence they have to back it up.

Very late to this video. I wanted to give my opinion, especially on the part relating to never actually standing behind something, or fully believing in it. Everything is always grey, black & white implies 2 options, which is never enough to justify the logical outcome. I very much enjoy being able to jump over the fence to play on both sides, but I'm always left wondering which one I would ultimately stay on. I have principles & morals, a true sense of right and wrong. But what scares me is starting something when I can already see the end. Finding a "career" is such a struggle due to innately tying my identity to whatever job I decide on. This leads to that inferior Fi, which blocks shaping and understanding one's identiy. Love the closing statement. I have a question do ENTPs also sometimes, get tired of chaos. I am a freelance designer, and sometimes I get pretty annoyed if clients aren't communicating plans and deadlines. Having said that, I also hate having a routine on a day-to-day basis, but I do need a broad albeit loose plan for the month

Most of these ENTP breakdowns are shallow and only serve as brief amusement but this is the first I've watched to actually increase my self-awareness. The fear yet desire to become rigid and principled and die on a hill. That's been the story of the last few years of my life. Very insightful.
As Entp matured women, I say many of these are divided in to immature and matured Entp. 1. I was a chameleon because I didn't accepte myself. 2. I like options because I was reacting instead of choosing what to react. There are options almost in everything. 3. Used to blend in and picking a color to survive. Now survive is not away to live life. 4. All 3 became less of Entp after self acceptance and emotional maturity. 5. Still want others to bounce my idea yet I also learn to talk to myself, write and to validate myself or look for other means of that. 6. I define and willing to redefine myself or existence so, now value is nothing but a standard society create. I believe matured Entps have no fear at all, higher level of adaptability and effective logical reasoning, a best mine set.

In Machiavelli, the prince, it mentions people are drawn to leaders that pick a side and stick to it. I always find myself in the middle, seeing both sides of an issue to where picking a side doesn't even matter. I've been curious of picking a side just to learn how others may react to that and if Machiavelli is right. So yes your last though to a certain extent

I met this INTJ that stood out to me, ‘cause not only was he incredibly smart, but he admired me for my intelligence... he actually liked it, you know? I’m not superficially intelectual; I don’t have this intelectual appearance, so most people don’t realize how much I like being appreciated for my brain.

I can relate to that. In the world of romantic relationships, I've found that there can also be danger in being attracted to people because they're attracted to us. While it's cool to intellectually impress people, I already know that I can if given the chance, so I can end up in a relationship with someone that I'm not actually attracted to (intellectually that is...;)). I dated a girl who asked me one night why I loved her. She was feeling insecure because she said she could list lots of reasons that she was attracted to me. It was a rough moment for me because I didn't know how to respond...crickets for like 10 seconds. I really did think I loved her, but I guess I didn't know why. We ended up breaking up not too long after that. After lots of reflection over the following days/months I realized that I liked her because she did what no one else had: encourage me to verbalize my ideas and thought processes and admire them. But, I now realize that I need to be with someone because of who they are, not just because they validated who I am.

As an old ENTP , 74 years old, and having had many various creative careers, I have had to learn to restrain and focus energy into a single area, at least for a period of time, in order to actually get something done, rather than just think about getting various things done. The danger is in overvaluing thinking without real action.
I'm an ENTP and about to be 40. I am barely starting to harness the ability to focus on a project and see it through without getting distracted to the project's complete detriment.
@@ambertorres5358 I think becoming a well rounded person is important; I like options 😅 but likewise finding something that meets your strengths is much easier than trying to overcompensate you’re weakness’.
Example: I struggled in a typical 9-5 Bureaucratic job with lots of paper work. I hated it and did poorly.
Now, I work the same job but with 2nd/ 3rd shift hours that are more chaotic. Paper work is still there but I benefit from being able to use my bursts of energy. I love it and do well.
One illustration I found interesting was that a dam impedes the flow of a river, but it turns the water's power into electricity. The Art of Manliness has an article with a title like "Creativity Needs a Conduit."
I'm still young, I guess I have to start making actions. I can't even appreciate my efforts, I'm not getting anything done.
Yeah, following what you really want also makes it more likely that you fail and don't get it. I used to just keep every option open, but now I have decided to maybe follow just one path. That is very scary.

As an ENTP I’m def not scared of being disliked but I am uncomfortable w the idea of being unappreciated. I usually couldn’t care less of what others think of me or if the people I don’t really know or like, dislike me. But if a close friend starts acting unappreciative towards me I think that’s where I draw the line.
Same, when I’m in a relationship I always look for respect… and I think it’s related to that idea of appreciation.

Well if you'd ask me, H2O is water and every matter can be any of the common three states of matter. Solid being one of those states, means that water is a solid too and we just happened to give a different name to solid water. A matter changing into one of these states doesn't change the matter itself. Hence, ice and water are the same thing how frozen and liquid Helium are both the same thing as Helium gas

I hate the idea of being trapped to everyday life and order so much every time I go for a job interview and they tell me things that show I can stay in that job for like 10 years I scream on the inside because of how boring that sounds.

I look at things 3 times to make sure I don't miss anything and there are still details I don't see.
"No honour" as you said we are very adaptable, everyone can be as adaptable but not everyone sees it. It's crazy how one person could be anyone believing in anything depending on the way they grew up so for me, I choose for a reason what I believe and why. What if one day I decide I don't give an f? That's scary. It would work for everyone but most people don't seem to question their beliefs. I love taking to people and learning about their beliefs and background to see what shaped them. Also it's insane to me how can you stand for something with your whole heart just because. Some times I have interest in them because I wonder how can they be so clueless living in a bubble, oopsie. Your speculation is a fact for me, I see it as the peak of adaptability.

I found a way around that. So the thing I believe in is myself. And if I value myself so much then whatever current (not too long lasting) ideology I have must be strong enough to bear all and any scrutinization.
And as thing that attaches me to the world, is ambition. How far can I take myself in the world.
ENTP here. And I DO wish that I could pick a hill. There's something romantic about the whole affair. Whether they reasoned it out, or didn't. There's a certain admiration I have for stubborn people. I'll never be that person though. I'll either over-think the position, or flow with a position. And I agree most with the 'lack of options' fear. Anyone who understands claustrophobia can probably guess how it feels to pin us into an ever shrinking room of possibilities. I literally feel like I can't breath, and it's only metaphorical.

INTP here and I agree on the claustrophobia caused by an ever shrinking room of possibilities. That also seems to mirror the way TJ types approach problems. They try to seek out the one option/solution/strategy etc. and stick to it until they reached their end goal. An FJ or FP type can be quite rigid in their moral values because that´s the pattern (to view and judge and evaluate the world) that "feels" right to them beyond the need for a logical validation - so they stick to it until the end... on the hill. Hope that´s not too wrong, if so - please correct me - I´m feeling a bit under the weather since I have to wash my hands every ten minutes.

@@lovewho What I tried to say is that there could be a parallel between people with rigid values and rigid goal orientation - that these traits are somewhat linked. The undeveloped Fi in ENTPs and INTPs and their inferior Te could to some extent be mirrored by strong(er) Fi and Te in TJ - types. The thing that makes ENTPs go with the flow in moral and intellectual matters, also makes them less goal oriented.

Insightful. Thank you. We are on a quest for truth, so we have to be detached, critical, rational observers. We can't allow ourselves to be influenced by dogma or limited by our own perceptions. But once we are on solid ground, we are inflexible.
As an ENTP, finding that hill is an awesome feeling, after years of searching. I specifically chose a career that requires me to have a vast pool of knowledge (So it never gets boring) and almost everything is up to debate (So it never gets dull), that being Economics.

Being suddenly thrust into chaos gives you perspective and distance. That sense of distance enhances the function of Ne and the decider/rational functions, sometimes providing sudden clarity about the meaning, structure, and function of a situation. ENTPs provoke chaotic situations because they know that they will outperform the other types in chaotic arenas.

I know intps who have learnt how to "fake" extraversion extremely well (well enough to convince me atleast, someone who likes to analyse every person I interact with and has been into mbti for years) and the rest of the world. If you can develop that skill you'll have the best of both worlds :) as an infp I have found having an extraversion facade that I can maintain for a limited amount of time, to be very useful

Erin In Florida i never got why either. I think INTJ is a way better match. ENTPs would get tired of how emotional and sensitive INFJs can be. INTJs, on the other hand, can be just as rational as an ENTP and, in general, I think they compliment us better.

As an ENTP, I just relate too much with what you say: the fear of seeing doors closing (i never knew how to put words on it), and most importantly, you made me discovered why i was fascinated by some persons, because they are able (well, they don't know how to do the countrary, it's more like a "they have to" than a "they are able" to, but anyway) to, as you said, pick a color and stick with it, which most of us can't do. Also, you are right on the fact we fear about even ourselves can think about, as sometimes i don't even know what my opinion is, as I do so much the devil's advocate. Finally, i just don't know if we don't have an opinion, if we, deep inside, have an opinion but defend others, or if we have all opinions at the same time. I don’t think the thing with ENTPs atleast for me is not knowing what they believe it’s questioning things for others to help them realize that they need to see all sides before choosing a side which most people don’t do, and is what we do constantly in our brains. So we point out flaws in other peoples reasoning whether we agree with it or not to ensure they are considering all sides.

When my friends get in a fight or my family I can usually see where they are coming from and kinda live through them for a little bit and usually solve the problem. To be able to switch perspectives so quickly is maybe a reason that we don't like to stay in one place physically and metaphorically, why should we learn one story when we can learn multiple.

Since I was 8 or 9 I've developed a habit of reviewing details multiple times in forms, exams etc. But even after detailed revisting of such details I sometimes find very minute stupid mistakes but I remember writing them right.

NOTHING makes me more angry than a small detail that is incredibly consequential. Usually it’s an administrative thing. So stupid, dictatorial, arbitrary, and completely unrelated to the overall value of something.
As an ENTP I view FoS and the tolerance of opposing viewpoints (no matter how "offensive") to be an absolute necessity of a functioning and healthy society. Any legislation which proposes a slight reduction in such freedom should be met with the destruction and reimagination of all legislative bodies so that this sort of tyranny is less likely to prop up again in the future, even if it means violence.
As an ENTP, I resonate a lot with the description about the fascination with people who believe in things just because. Mainly I find this fascination in people with faith and religion. To completely go into a belief system or completely reject it, I can't do that. I would love to understand how that is possible. I end up being agnostic, open to whatever is or is not out there

That hit home really hard. I keep on evolving, changing my perspectives and I can’t sit still, physically but especially mentally, I can’t settle for anything. I like it, but it makes me feel alien, and it makes it hard to stand for anything.
Often I think I've mistyped myself with entj but after studying more on the mbti I noticed I'm more of an entp than entj, because of this I spent weeks in home scrutinizing on exactly what type I have, guess I didn't like being unauthentic. Now Im sure that my type is entp and this video relates to me more.
very accurate... and helpful, thanks again! Suffocating feeling can appear when I seemingly lose options or need to do compulsory down-to-earth basic s.../things. Also, there's fear that I'm not aware of some very straightforward physical detail, so I usually call my friends to explain/show them what I want and ask them if I overlooked something obvious. (Once I was calling someone on my mobile phone, telling that I'm not sure I can call later since I don't find my phone...)
But the biggest fear is, what if I can't even stick to things that are important to me. There are times when I live by a different "code" than other times. Audience, also yes.

Holy cannoli, I've always loved your videos but this one influenced my opinion about mbti more than maybe any other video I've seen so far... The thing is that I've been interested in mbti for close to 2 years now, but I've been struggling with typing myself, _a lot._ I blame the combination of my mental issues and all the (often contradictory) information online, but for the longest time I would always get INTJ, ENTP or ENTJ as a result (a bit absurd, I know, but I'm almost 50/50 on the J/P axis and only slightly extroverted). And if I go function by function, I relate to the descriptions of xNTJ's function stack way better. But then I see the descriptions of ENTPs as whole and... yep, I totally see the resemblance. And every single thing (not exaggerating) you said in this video really hit home for me.
That thing about being a chameleon - sometimes it feels like I'm a completely different person on/off work etc. And the thing about being scared of how far can you go in the (moral) adaptability - ever since I was a child I remember instinctively knowing that if I wanted to and the situation called for it, I could do almost anything, including some bad stuff, and that idea terrified me and made me extra careful in making sure that I never become an asshole. Damn... Sorry for venting, but this video is really some eye opening stuff for me.
So long story short, thanks for making me simultaneously more confused and clearer about mbti than ever, and giving me yet another thing to obsess over during this quarantine 👍
These are just stereotypes and don't necessarily reflect all ENTPs. If you want to really understand mbti and your type you need to become fully immersed in the cognitive functions and how they work in conjunction with each other.

When I go by functions, I see myself in the descriptions of xNTJ's function stack, but when I go by descriptions of the types as whole, ENTP starts seeming like a very close match. Example of what I mean - they say that Te users are more objective in their logic (duh...), are more likely to use facts and objectively true statements to support their arguments, are more efficiency oriented, and can become pretty blunt/bossy, always giving people practical advice on how to enhance life... whereas Ti goes deeper, cares about fewer topics, but is interested in mastering them + also mainly cares about what the user thinks of something, not what people in general think. When I think of my thought process here, especially compared to how my family members act, I fairly neatly match with the description of Te. Except... ENTPs use Ti and they aren't limited to a few areas of interest, quite the opposite, I would assume that as NTs, their advice will also be more practical than emotional, and since they crave the approval of others they will also at least somewhat care about efficiency...
This is what's tripping me up. I get that the functions always more or less balance each other out - Ne opens up more options for the more close-minded Ti, whereas Ni helps pick up the "right" pattern from the vast amount of various information that Te collects, etc. Doesn't that seem fairly similar at the end of the day? Or another conundrum - I show emotions easily, though humor, mimics, gestures, the tone of my voice etc. Yet I generally prefer my inner sense of morality over just shared values. _Aaand_ at the same time I'm a slut for praise and being valued by the group. What does that make me (besides insecure)? :D

this is only about absorbing information
T and F are Deciders
this is only about choosing what to do with that information
Ne and Se are Gathering
Ne is gathering ideas, Se is gathering facts
NI and SI are Organizing
Ni is organizing ideas, Si is organizing facts
Te and Fe are Tribe
Te is what works for others, Fe is how others feel
Ti and Fi are Self
Ti is your reasons, Fi is your values
N and S work in tandem, as do T and F
Ne and Ni are both N they still both exist simultaneously, but one is dominant
You can see here I have all these ideas(Ne) and I'm putting them into a list(Si)
This makes sense to me(Ti) and I'm explaining it to you because I want you to enjoy this knowledge(Fe)
Thank you for the video! INFP here and my boyfriend is ENTP. So we argue (he starts 99% of the arguments) and we debate then for 1 hour. It drains me but he loves debating. Whenevr I say something, 90% of the timing, he starts with, "no" - just for the sake of it and making me find arguments to prove him wrong. Also interesting time these days, I ve observed his behaviour and we dont manage lockdown the same way. I dont really care to stay at home as an INFP but he cannot stand it and what you described regarding the details on the tax thing is exactly true! We ecperienced it!

As an INTJ, I have a friend that’s an ENTP and I can only take them for so long before I’m like “okay, need a break from going in circles for the sake of it”.
As an INTJ, going in circles for the sake of mental sparring isn’t interesting after a certain point. Often I find they like to straddle the philosophical line and that’s fine but after a point it just comes off as wishy washy to an INTJ (and we’re anything but wishy washy when it comes to a point we’re trying to make).
We don’t ‘debate’ for debating sake like they do. And if we start to get the notion they’re just disagreeing to be contradictory with no real point or stance that will get on our nerves and I know for me I just mentally disengage as it being a waste of my time and mental energy. And INTJs *HATE* wasting our time and mental energy so I have to deal with them in doses.
Their need to be *seen* is just not an INTJs jam (we literally are the opposite in that respect we could care less to be seen) so it’s a little like grasping for ‘likes’ the way they go about it to me as an INTJ.
In general, I do think they’re a cool type but I will say as an INTJ we do have differences that require me to say bye for now...here and there.
We ENTPs tire people out easily. It's not easy to deal with us, especially when we're just 'in the moment'. Of course the point of the wishy washy stuff for us is exploration. We'll eventually find details if we circle back to the same point. It's the most whimsical thing about us. Everything else is fairly Machiavellian. Of course I'v chosen something, that's easy. It's almost too easy. I find that part boring. After a long while you see patterns, and can use intuitive and or logical short cuts to cull dozens of options. I think most people view options as a one and done deal. I view it more like a competition, with an open invite for new challengers. There's always a winner, but there's also always a usurper too. I think you getting distance is the smartest move. Even when we can understand a different types, that doesn't make them more enjoyable to be around. I really understand why people find us annoying, mean, rambley, ect....but it doesn't automatically change my persona. I'm still gonna be me, I may mute those qualities if I can sense it's driving another batty. But that's about it.
@@Niveous23 Some people choose a particular option (out of a given set) in the spur of the moment. Some make their choice based on traditional way of doing things. Some others choose a particular option out of the same set after careful deliberation and consideration. Those three are not the same. So, saying that choosing a given option is too easy is not a correct assessment. You have to know who is making the choice and why.
We don't debate "for no reason". We debate because we want you to prove us wrong. People beliefs are partially based on unconscious biases. If we see things that you can't(and we do), we need to make sure that you can justify your stance. If your belief stands up to scrutiny, then we might consider adopting your position. We will do more research to reload and make another pass at attempting to shoot your beliefs down. Nothing personal.

I believe that the fear of being disliked is tied to the fear of being limited. I try to keep everyone I come across happy, not because I care about them, but what they may be able to provide in the future. It's a form of keeping social options open. I also 100% agree with the performer theory. The irony of being a mental performer, at least in my experience, is that it's easy to confuse and push people away because of the mental gymnastics.

It was difficult for me to find that I'm neurotic ENTP more than INTP. Ne and Ti are strongest functions, and they are near equal, but my Fe is stronger than Si.
You are exactly right about the not necessarily being liked part, however exactly you said it. When I was in school there was a person who admired my skill with words, bravado, etc. very much. They did not like me even a little bit. They enjoyed me and I enjoyed them and they would have gladly been my assistant in taking over the world and we both knew it, and we both knew it would be because they were under the impression that they could then kill me and take over after I'd done all the hard work and I was under the absolute certainty that they would be working harder and taking more of the blame for everything that happened that people didn't like and then I would "take over" and discard them, if taking over the world was something I wanted to do in the first place.I really miss that person. They really saw my potential and spurred me on to greater success.

I managed to find a way to minimize that feeling by hanging out on vocal chat with people I know only from some streams, but I'm almost sure it's going to wear off as soon as the novelty of it will wear off too. Like, I knew hanging out with friends and family helped me get better, but I never realized how much I needed them and just enjoyed chatting with baristas. Thanks for the insight! :)

ENTP here and I agree for the most part. I wouldn't necessarily say we fear being disliked. If we contribute something then yes, we want it to be recognized. However, if someone simply doesn't like me or my value added I could care less of their opinion. The fact that they gave feedback that they dislike me still shows they listened and recognized my input, therefore I walk away content.

The war between scratching the itch to debate or be confrontational and to be liked and both being the most important thing at different times is a real issue. It is so hard. I am carefree and more likable around strangers. I love traveling for this. I start thinking too much and clam up around people I have to be nice all the time to for the sake of my kiddos. It wears me out to hold it all in. I try to be nice to all people but heaven help you in you are put on my indifference list. I find that Martial arts is a good outlet for me, specifically BJJ.
Embrace the change I always say or in the current climate embrace the chaos. I find a strange comfort in change. When you mention a desire to pick a colour I agree. It would be nice to have identified a sole passion/interest. One that makes you want to dedicate your whole time/energy to. People who have managed that I find interesting.

I definitely relate to the fear of commitment, not just with my decisions and career choices (and all my choices... here's that logic as to why I'm single lol XD l^; ) but also with beliefs. I've always found it hard to maintain a strong opinion, that's probably why I prefer to interrogate others' so I can understand them and why they hold a particular view or what evidence they have to back it up.

The ending was completely accurate for me, I decided out of nowhere that I was going to frequent catholic masses and pray sometimes after being 100% atheist for most of my life. I just wanted to feel how it was like to believe in God.
Have you ever read the book "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist?" As an ENTP, I'm reading it and enjoying it.
Very late to this video. I wanted to give my opinion, especially on the part relating to never actually standing behind something, or fully believing in it.
Everything is always grey, black & white implies 2 options, which is never enough to justify the logical outcome. I very much enjoy being able to jump over the fence to play on both sides, but I'm always left wondering which one I would ultimately stay on.
I have principles & morals, a true sense of right and wrong. But what scares me is starting something when I can already see the end. Finding a "career" is such a struggle due to innately tying my identity to whatever job I decide on.
This leads to that inferior Fi, which blocks shaping and understanding one's identiy. Both of these fears you described make up the stagnation I feel ever so much.

5:24 yes, this is my job.. to play all the angles. And yes, it feels concerning, because I know I'm good at it, aware that it could be manipulative, but I'm mindful that I do it for everyone's best interests. So far, its led to good outcomes for all.

Love the closing statement. I have a question do ENTPs also sometimes, get tired of chaos. I am a freelance designer, and sometimes I get pretty annoyed if clients aren't communicating plans and deadlines. Having said that, I also hate having a routine on a day-to-day basis, but I do need a broad albeit loose plan for the month

The thing about the bending of principles and not knowing what one may be capable of, very relatable for me, to the point I may be doing something deemed not appropriate to society but I do not notice till afterward, and that tax thing too I always get panic attacks when I have to file

Most of these ENTP breakdowns are shallow and only serve as brief amusement but this is the first I've watched to actually increase my self-awareness. The fear yet desire to become rigid and principled and die on a hill. That's been the story of the last few years of my life. Very insightful.

As Entp matured women, I say many of these are divided in to immature and matured Entp.
1. I was a chameleon because I didn't accepte myself.
2. I like options because I was reacting instead of choosing what to react. There are options almost in everything.
3. Used to blend in and picking a color to survive. Now survive is not away to live life.
4. All 3 became less of Entp after self acceptance and emotional maturity.
5. Still want others to bounce my idea yet I also learn to talk to myself, write and to validate myself or look for other means of that.
6. I define and willing to redefine myself or existence so, now value is nothing but a standard society create.
I believe matured Entps have no fear at all, higher level of adaptability and effective logical reasoning, a best mine set.

We both have a passion to connect atypicals and neurotypicals in a way that doesn't lead to so many misunderstanding and social/sensory overload. He is doing that by becoming a lawyer, I'm doing that by becoming a psychometrist

ENTP T here. Still have only ideas of what I want to do with my life and im going to be 28 in 3 days. I did chemistry, biotech, ended up graduating in marketing (cant find any job in that field). Left my ex of 4 years because she was a nurse (our worst match), but she was really amazing. Anyway, I wanted to agree with you on the big picture thing! I left my province to fall into a different environment and grow in it. I bought a minivan, packed my drums, books and wtv else was fitting and I just left and drove 52 hours. I'm a canadian. ENTPs just want to improve society and each individuals as much as they can no matter how much we piss them off.
Also, some of my favorite jobs I would like to work are logo designer, product creation and my favorite: CLEANING society from greed and stupidity. Would really love if people would get together as communities and start thinking with their head. They could get everything they have rght now 90% off if they wouldnt think like hermit crabs.

In Machiavelli, the prince, it mentions people are drawn to leaders that pick a side and stick to it. I always find myself in the middle, seeing both sides of an issue to where picking a side doesn't even matter. I've been curious of picking a side just to learn how others may react to that and if Machiavelli is right. So yes your last though to a certain extent
