  • Find out everything you need to know about Land Rover AdBlue.
New rules and new technologies mean the latest Land Rovers are better for the environment than ever.
One way our engineers have achieved this, is with Selective Catalytic Reduction. A special Diesel Exhaust Fluid called AdBlue is added to your exhaust system. AdBlue turns harmful Nitrous Oxide emissions into water and other harmless gases.
To work properly, the AdBlue levels in your Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank have to be maintained.
We’ll top up your AdBlue as part of your service plan, but you may need to do it yourself, especially if your mileage is higher than average.
So, if you see one of these warnings on your message centre before your service is due, you’ll need to purchase an AdBlue refill from your local Land Rover retailer.
Remember, if you ignore these warnings, your vehicle will prevent you from starting your ignition. You’ll get plenty of notice before this happens.
To top up your AdBlue, open your bonnet and find the filling cap. Remove the cap and take the lid off your AdBlue refill bottle.
Insert the bottle and turn it clockwise until you hear a click. Then, push it down until it’s empty.
Turn the bottle anti-clockwise, remove the empty bottle and, finally, replace the cap.
For more information, take a look at your owner’s manual or talk to your local retailer.

Better for environment and nightmare for customers. AdBlue makes £ 45000 car absolutely useless, pice of garbage in the country where no AdBlue. it should never stop engine to start this is an extreme measure that will hit hard the Land Rover sales. Many people don't know how bad it is and should think carefully when to bay Land Rover with diesel fuel

I agree, had the salesperson told us how often it needs DEF, we probably would not have purchased the vehicle. Dealer here gets $175.00 to replenish the DEF, CRAZY.

We recently purchased a 2018 model Vogue SE the vehicle has now done under 4,000 mile and the message came up out of the blue, so to speak, The sales person mentioned nothing about this but i'm not surprised its just another in a long list of issues we have with both the Dealership and Range Rover them selves. No wonder Range Rover are in trouble you can not relay on the reputation of the vehicle for ever the quality of the after sales service, for a vehicle of this calibre, is every bit as impotent as the vehicle itself particularly once you have an issue.

Here's a tip for those concerned about problems and cost associated with this annoying system (not just LR) simply get your ECU remapped and have it 'switched off' for a couple hundred quid, and you will never need to use any part of this system again.

Not impressed my discovery has done just 3700 miles and it tells me i need adblue top up - i hope it's not every 4000 miles. I have the service plan but don't want to keep going back to the dealer for top ups every 4 months!

OK so nice Video - what it does not say it that your DPF will get clogged up and need replacement 3500 GBP and then the side effect will be a block EGR and filter at a cost of 2200, and this is with only 50,000 miles on the clock. I have written to JLR three times asking if this is expected Behaviour and they have not replied. I have also phoned them. Very poor design NEVER buy a JLR it will cost you big time.

Ad-blu is not just required for LR Diesel vehicles & it's never been an issue with my Discovery, just read the owner manual user the information is quite clear on "whats what".

What about the countdown to no restarts that continues despite how much adblue you put in? This is the problem that many owners of land rover vehicles are facing.

Or you could just buy an early diesel with nothing but a cat fitted and not have to worry

In my opinion the best £350 you'll ever spend is having Adblue Deleted from the ECU. Trust me you'll thank me for the advice & if you really want a long lasting engine EGR & DPF Delete. With this done & regular serving she'll be as sweet as a nut.
