Love all 3 Naked Gun flicks (+ Top Secret, Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, and Brain Donors). I'm glad the new one is not a remake. I still expect nothing from it but that's kinder to its legacy.
Rocky Watches Movies: Will even more facts on both Naked Guns sequels in the future? Thanks for your help as always! Rest In Peace OJ Simpson, Leslie Nielsen, and George Kennedy! You will be missed by far!
Really neat facts! I look forward to watching Liam Neeson in the upcoming movie. He hasn't done much comedy, but I sense he has a wicked sense of dry humour.
Such a great movie, esp if love baseball as makes end scene even better. Find it difficult to believe Liam Neeson is gonna try to be Frank Drebin! Though I spose no one can ever replace one of a kind Leslie Nielsen
Saw this and the other two NG movies in the theater back in the day. Loved all of them, every minute. I wasn't a fan though of Spy Hard, which I think just tried too hard. ZAZ is the best and it's such a shame Abrams passed, though I know all three are/were getting up there in age. I had no idea a fourth was in the works...here's hoping they keep the spirit up.
Love the Naked Gun movies! And I think Liam Neeson can pull it off, as Leslie Nielsen only did dramas up until Airplane! and he was pushing 60 at that point, so I have faith he'll do just fine! (ALSO: Can you do a video on Police Squad!?)
Hold on a minute - *POLICE SQUAD* was a name used *WAY* before Police Academy was even a twinkle in a movie studios pants, yet they kicked up *NO* fuss when bring those out!
The thing is, he was already a well-known celebrity when this movie came out. It’s kind of hilarious to think of his dates cooing because he has a cameo in this one movie. 😂
Disappointed. Not so much about the film, but about the cameos and actors who have appeared in other films. For example, it would have been nice to know more about the filming and scenes that were cut. Like the priceless opening on the boat. And why all the attention on Weird Al?
Hate to say this, but I much preferred Police Squad over The Naked Gun movies. For one thing, the series always underplayed its humor. The characters treated it straight, and let the circumstances sell the joke. In these types of films, you have to play it as if you're doing a Shakespearean drama while things are falling apart all around you. The perfect example of that style is the great Buster Keaton, who was always the calm eye of the hurricane and kept a straight face no longer what happened. But, with regards to Leslie Nielsen, somewhere along the way, he stopped playing his parodies ala Keaton and started playing his role as if he was an American (or rather, Canadian) Inspector Clouseau. Which, ironically, is simply not all that funny. Subtlety always works best with the ZAZ product, and you can't really run with it if you KNOW it's a comedy. And I really believe the disintegration started with The Naked Gun movies. In Police Squad! and Airplane!, Leslie Nielsen played it as if he was in a drama that happened to have insane gags always in the background. In other words, the character never knew he was actually in a comedy, but we always did. Which is how Buster Keaton worked: NEVER play it for the obvious laughs. If you do it right, your audience will laugh anyway. If you laugh at your own jokes, the jokes become labored, and that's just not funny. Buster himself said he never knew what was truly funny - but his audience always knew what made them laugh. The latter-day Nielsen movies bear that out, but in the negative: the audience knew what was NOT funny. And that was why I loathed Dracula Dead and Loving It (also because it was a "parody" of Coppola's Dracula - which I was convinced was ALREADY a "parody"), along with Nielsen's later "parodies." NONE of those films were all that funny, IMO. ESPECIALLY, that execrable Mister Magoo movie! Nielsen was TRYING for the joke, PLAYING for the comedy. After a while, I started wondering myself if Nielsen even understood WHY Police Squad! worked and his more obvious comedies never did. Now, I acknowledge that The Naked Gun movies were funny in places, and I laughed a lot. But I laughed for far different reasons. I laughed because the jokes were very obvious in the movies - you laughed AT the movies - whereas you laughed WITH Police Squad! and Airplane! There is a distinction, and, sadly, Neilsen's career bears that out. He became effectively a baggy-pants comedian, which he always very cheerfully acknowledged -- but that style inevitably gets tiresome when you are expecting Police Squad-style humor. The subtlety of the material is what makes it work, and there was nothing subtle in The Naked Gun or any of Nielsen's subsequent films. Which really is a tragedy - Nielsen COULD do it, and he simply didn't.
Then just say you liked the TV show better instead of a War and Peace novel length comment. And maybe you didn't like the movies, but a ton of people DID.
You have valid points about the comedy aspect. Less is more. I enjoy Dracula: Dead and loving it, because of the other characters, also some scenes are funny. But I would also say that I think you are putting to much emphasis on Leslie Nielsen. I think the problem is the producers, directors and the company have all had a bad influence on the movies.
I really wish Hollywood would scrap this remake or another addition to classic movies as none of them are any good. They remade Ghostbusters, The Italian Job, Gone in 60 Seconds, Willy Wonka to name a few and none of them are a patch on the originals, the originals are of their time and should be left that way. Naked Gun were Leslie Nielsen and for all that I really rate Liam Neeson....just NO!!
Liam Neeson is not the first person that comes to mind for comedy. Revenge and/or action, yes. A new Darkman movie, definitely. Comedy, no. Sorry Liam.
That just might be the reason for it working though. That was ZAZ's policy for their films, get serious actors to act serious in silly situations. Only time will tell.
@@rockywatchesmovies Liam is way too serious. When was the last time you seen Leslie Nielsen (holy crap I just realized they have the same initials...L.N.) playing a character that was like Bryan Mills? Never. I don't see them pulling that one off. The Zucker's are good, but not that good.
@@rockywatchesmovies Exactly. Look at the serious actors in Airplane and how funny they made said film. Robert Stack's conversations with Striker still crack me up. Edit: not forgetting Chuck Connors in the sequel. The cup scene with Lloyd Bridges.
@karlepaul6632 Ted relied on shock comedy and not expecting what would happen. Watching Ted a second time was nowhere near as funny as the first time and Ted 2 was barely funny because we knew what to expect. A Million Ways to Die in the West was complete and utter garbage
The humor in The Naked Gun is absolutely timeless!
Oh yes, still hilarious today
Like a blind man at an orgy, I guess I was just going to have to feel things out.
haha
Leslie nodding his head every time she hits a stair is a great example of his comedic genius.

Exactly, expect nothing and you can't be disappointed
I, Leslie Hoffman, stunt doubled Queen Elizabeth going down the Banquet Table .
That is so cool. What was it like on set?
So there were two Leslies on the set then lol
@@rockywatchesmovies I had a great time 💖
@@karlepaul6632 Leslie came up to me and said "Leslie....that is a nice sounding name"
Coincidentally, I randomly rewatched The Naked Gun just a few days ago. Weird coincidence but a nice one!
Wow, what an amazing co-incidence! I didn't.
@ Just making an observation. No need to be a prick.
The way they made the actors do the takes so many times it brought a unique energy to the jokes!! They did the same with Airplane.
"SSSSSSTTTTTTRRRRIIIIIIKKKKKKEEEEEEEE THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
One of my favorite movies!
The doctors say he has a 50/50 chance of living, but there's only a 10% chance of that 🤣

I will do the sequels in time
Thanks for the great video!
My pleasure!
My wife was never one for goofy or slapstick shows, but the "Nice beaver!" scene always tickled her.
*"Nice beaver,"* as Frank Drebin is staring up Priscilla's dress.
what the hell are thiey thinking, you cant have naked gun without Leslie Neilson.
Police Squad was decades ahead of it´s time. Best joke in this one? BINGO !
"Is this some sort of a bust?" "Yes, it's very nice, but that's not important right now."

My fingers are crossed
As good as the Naked Gun movies are, I like Police Squad more.
Nice one. You never see these films on main stream tv in the UK these days.

In movies vs TV, movies win.
Yeah, but one was TV format while the others were movies

Thanks 👍
I loved the intro to the movie's
*POLICE SQUAD. In Color.*
Oh wow! I now have something to look forward to this year. A new naked gun movie is just what 2025 is going to need.
With Liam Neeson too. That is promising.
What!!!
The name "Ludwig" should have been a clue, but I never realized Ricardo Montalban's character was German. I always just assumed he was South American.
How did Elvis visit the set when he died in 1977?
His ghost. He was joking 😃
@@rockywatchesmovies Or was he? We still don't know or do we?
I would choose Ben Stiller or Jim Carrey for a remake.
Or maybe Denzel Washington or Aldis Hodge.
I do like Liam Neeson, of course!
That was such a Weird Al thing to do.

Great list, but they're making another sequel? The third one was my least favorite. I'm skeptical...

It will be interesting to see the new one. If anyone can do it, it’ll be Seth McFarlane

For the algorithm
Not even a mention of OJ Simpson or glimpse of him? He was an integral part of the movie and obviously now lives in infamy. That’s really odd!
He is in there. In the hospital bed. I have only just realized I didn't use much of him. That wasn't on purpose, Nordberg was a great character!
I try to remember OJ this way.
What was really needed to be said of him though? He picked 20 facts that weren't as well known, and he simply didn't fit into them.
I have no expectation that the upcoming remake/reboot will be anything but terrible.
I would like to say that in a different way. I have every expectation that it will suck donkey balls.
I'm not holding my breath, but you never know
Okay. I will watch this video. If there is even one thing I already knew, I will give a dislike, otherwise, a like.
