The airbags on the APT formed the train's secondary suspension, and were not inflated and deflated to tilt the carriages. Rather, the carriages were mounted on tilting bolsters, one of which can be seen moving underneath the airbag at @01:51. Like the Pendolino, the APT used gyroscopes, analogue computers and hydraulic rams to provide the tilting function. Most of the APT's technical problems stemmed from its hydrokinetic brakes, brake pipes, gearbox and articulated bogies; these were eventually resolved. When the APT project was cancelled, some of the patents for the tilting technology were sold to Fiat Ferroviaria, manufacturer of...the Pendolino. They subsequently incorporated this technology into their own designs, which they eventually sold to the UK.
A great summary, I'd only like to suggest it was actaully digitally controlled, using dual redunant Intel 4004 microprocessors and embedded software. The APT was very ahead of it's time.
I travelled on this train when it was still experimental, not in the official timetable, but was possible to buy tickets. I was 10 old I travelled alone from south to north. That was such an exciting experience.

I like how they used tea in the demonstration for the APT in Britain but used wine in Italy
The Presentation & the PENDOLINO looked CLASS APART.
The Italian train is looks cool
Failed in uk, italy great engineering, also today, because? London rich e 57 milioni no😅😅

@@Shand1982 as far as I know APT only used accelerometers, not gyroscopes.

Smoother than a Boeing 747 and this on rails. Love the curves, don't know about the wine, but it does look promising.

Rivolgiamo il tilting train!
The irony of the fact that the Italians were the ones who made the tech work reliably is not lost on me!
Normally it's the other way around!
for example?
@soundseeker63
The true irony is the english bollocks and bullshit that you're writing!

Apart from cars, the Italians are usually the ones who comes with the technological solutions. The Jet Engine for example.
