- In this video I fit the front bindings in a classical guitar. Once the bindings on the back have been fitted is then possible to use a cord to fit both front bindings at the same time.

Love the videos. Pablo's videos are very informative and even more so always a pleasure to watch...
Lovely method using a chord.
Loving learning from you, many thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful.
I really like to way you present the work and also the skills. It will be nice to show on the end just before to finish the final result.
thanks, I am learning a great deal from you.
Wow! What a great skill you have shown here. Perfection is quality. Hope you will continue to do more videos like this.👍👍
Thank you.
Yes I will carry on making videos but in the meantime just in case you are interested have a look at my website where you will find a complete video series about how to make your own guitar. www.onlineguitarmakingcourse.com
Pablo, very nice videos. I am on my 41st instrument now so I appreciate your clean working methods. I use tape top and bottom. If you put two coats of shellac on the top before you tape the bindings it does not pull fibers from the top. It works for me. Very good job.
CLASSICALBUILDER thanks for the tip.
Muy buen video de un gran profesional, me gusta este sistema, yo hacía algo parecido porque lo leí en el libro de Gerónimo Fernandez Peña, pero esto está mejor. Gracias
Amazing skill level, wow!!!
an honest teacher is easy to find!
just executed the cord method for clamping binding - worked a treat especially if you got very hard wood binding material such as malaysian blackwood!! so compared to masking tape i'd say the cord works better!!
great instructor thanks
you are welcome!
i just tried this method with a wooden binding and found that it's extremely important the binding is already the correct height. Mine was about 1/16" too tall and so the rope pulled on the top, likely creating a gap in the bottom of the channel
MAESTRO!!
I love how acurate you do your work and how you show everything. I am going to watch everyone of your videos! One question: Why could you glue the bindings on the back with tape and not the ones on the top with tape as well?
I don’t use tape on the top as it will pull the grain quite badly. Specially on spruce. You can pull the tape carefully but sooner or later you will have problems. On the back it is ok as the timbers used for the back and sides are normally stronger.
Just in case you are interested I have a complete course available on www.onlineguitarmakingcourse.com
@@redkitekk Thanks for quick answer. I realy love your craftmanship. I was just looking at the video of the end inlay. Georgeus! Thanks for sharing!
Pablo, your videos are outstanding. Do you have one on cutting the rosette/binding channels? I’ve yet to find a way that I consider really good.
Thank you. The topics you are looking for are on a series of videos you can purchase on www.onlineguitarmakingcourse.com
@@redkitekk Thanks for the quick response. Which of the Guitar Course videos would contain this information?
@@elmerfairbank5946 the info about cutting the slot for the rosette is at the end of chapter 5, and the video about cutting the rebates for the bindings is in chapter 21.
@@redkitekk Thanks a million. Gracias mio maestro.
Great videos Pablo. I'm curious to know why you use tape on the back but cord on the top. Why not just use tape on the top as well?
Paul McNamara for a couple of reasons, first because the tape is very sticky and it can pull the grain on the soundboard and second because I can apply a bit more pressure and get a better fit.
começar pela "cintura" foi genial!
Great video. Is it a specific type and thickness of string ? Thanks.
i've ordered 5mm x 50m macrame cotton cord - i'm sure it will be fine! beware the binding doesn't lean inwards due to the tension of the cord!
Does the bulky crossover of chords on the sound board cause any unwanted inward pressure on the sound board or the back?
Not really as the top and back have a little bit of flexibility anyway.
Thanks for posting - how much string do you think you are using ?
My guess is that you are going to need about 30 metres, but I am not sure. I have a 50 metre roll because I didn't want to run out in the middle of the job. There is always quite a bit left unused but I don't really know how much.
Hi Pablo,
Do you ever use a stair stepped ledge for smaller purflings or is the channel always the same depth to fit bindings and purflings of the same height together?
Hi, I have done double rebates in the past but I find that they are more complicated, for many years I have been doing just one rebate to accommodate both binding and purflings and it is a lot easier.
This is just the way I do it. you need to find the way that works for you.
@@redkitekk Thanks! That sounds like a great way to do it.
Thanks Pablo! Are you using regular Titebond glue? No issue with one area setting up before you can get back to it and pry the two woods apart?
Hi Ben,
Yes, I use regular Titebond and I never had any problems.....of course you have to be mindful of time so make sure you have everything ready and don't go for a cup of tea in between gluing sections!!!
I have a bottle of fish glue , just the same shape with a pointy nozzle. It`s reversible with steam or moisture . Used cold and a long adjustment time too .
Isn't Hyde glue the best?
Do you just leave your glue brushes soaking in water to stop them going off?
That’s about the cleanest glueing for binding and purpling I’ve seen nice work
Purpling? Does that make a funny guitar sound?
That should have read purfling sorry about that auto correct, but yes purpling would make the guitar sound funny and my auto correct still can’t find purfling thank you
