I like both (and other) versions, but the Dio version has more of an edge to it, which makes me love it most, but he's also got great soul in his voice too.
I am a singer my self. And I know what it takes. Dio is without a doubt the best singer during the last 100 years or so. In any genre. Better than fantastic singers such as Pavarotti, Chris Cornell and Steve Perry. His vocal technique is incredible. He is a true virtuoso. Paired with top-musicality and great talent to tell a story. He was blessed with so many gifts. Most world class singer might have one dimension. He had it all. I miss him a lot.
Peter Majanen Ronnie and Chris my two all time favs. I can’t pick. Sadly both gone. Saw Ronnie twice. Once with sabbath early 80’s and rhen in Dio on the last in line tour. But saw Chris solo and in sound garden and audioslave. I still can’t pick.
@@TheoIam Dio was the blueprint to much of my personal singing inspiration. However, even having seen RjD many times, i only saw Soundgarden once, in San Francisco, and it was a 3+hour set. Cornell nailed every single note for over three hours. Playing and singing. I was so emotionally drained after that show. I’d never been so in awe, while at the same time, having nothing left to give the band emotionally. It was incredible.
also play guitar and have seen all rock stars and singers live more often. what Dio has delivered at Rainbow and Black Sabath, no human child on this planet has come close to achieving.
Dio take this song to another level.. as it has done with Dream ON by Aerosmith.. This happen when you're dealing with the legend of the legends..I don't know if someone will be able to sing Dio'songs better than him.. This is the difference.. RJD LEGEND ABOVE LEGENDS !!!

Dio never sung dream On ( only wish) The comparison is difficult if we are talking about greatest song modern recording then Dream On gets my vote 🗳 that song 🎵 never gets old, you'll never be like oh man not Dream On again. Incredible that Tony Iommy said he never worked his voice before going to the stage, he could be talking, having a beer and just go up the stage and go.
Saw them in Sydney in 1976, cost us about $14 a ticket so went two nights in a row. Best concert I have ever ever seen.....Dio was just mind blowing as was Cozy. DON'T MAKE MUSIC like this anymore, more is the pity. I can't believe I was fortunate enough to see this concert; still 36 years later blows my mind. God bless Ronnie & Cozy R.I.P.

I saw Rainbow open for Foghat (WTF!!!) in '77. It was easily the best show I had seen to date and still stands out today. I've seen Coverdale do this as well, but Dio just lights it up.
For those who born in 21st century keep in mind or learn that MISTREATED was a DEEP PURPLE song performed by David Coverdale in 1974. therefore this performance by Ronnie in 1977 is just another attempt to mistreate !!! Hurrah for DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW who are the same top 1 bands for heavy metal or Rock and Roll !

you can not compare dio to pavarotti not the same but Dio was a fan of mario lanza and obviously kear a lot from him
