2012: A year in review So Cal, Feather River Canyon and Montana.

Highlights of all the trains I shot in 2012 other than Donner Pass. Head end view only with sometimes some DPU/Helper action. I shot too many to show the entire train. If I did that the program would be 8+ hrs long. The special running down the FRC with the UP 6936 was the Feather River RXR Museum train headed to Dunsmuir for their RXR days.

I read a few years ago UP ran a 3 mile long stack train from Chicago to LA. Tied up road crossings for miles. A lot of motorists not happy about it.

Why does one of the trestles (built by Santa F) in the Keddie Wye have 4 (derail protection) rails but the other one (Western Pacific?) does not?

Uhhh, both lines were built by the WP. Who knows. It's possible BNSF took em' out when they purchased the line in 1997.
