Glad to see you back, great tutorial. I love making Zines, I fold mine so it can be laid flat and photocopied. I send them to my kids who all live far away. I put local news in it, chatty stuff about their friends, a recipe and photos. They are just fun to make!
I was imagining your husband doing a super-hero-dive toward the recycling bin in slow-mo saying, "Noooooooo! Nik needs that computer paper with the holes!" LOVE this!!! :-)
For someone just starting out, like me, a zine is a great idea for advertising to include free in shipments, as handouts at events, as mini-catalogs to show examples (like the second zine you showed in this vid). A great idea. Thank you!
I like this. You could put it in a journal as a page or extra book within a book. Drop a Zine, great idea!!! LOVE your quotes!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you so much 😊 Nik, I really love 💕 you’re Zines I’ve never seen this before, but I really love 💕 it. And you crack me up 😂🤣😅😃 with the things you say. You’re so talented and clever and amazing...xx Mags
You’re not the only one who’s new to zines! I have heard of them but couldn’t tell you what they are or what they’re for until now. Thanks for sharing our experience!
Genealogy is a hobby of mine and you have inspired me to make these for myself and my family! And you saying, You'd think I'd have a journal lying around to write stuff down....too funny!
Hi Nik, happy summer ! Ok, now I know what a zine is ( didn’t before ) and I like them so now I have more things to make ... happy dance ! Thanks a bunch for educating me on lots of stuff.
This seems like a good way for people to get their feet wet in the world of junk journaling. I have been wanting to take the leap and I think I will start with one of these. Happy to see you back!
Family history idea for a zine is great. And of course love that it's in your vintage style with your marbled paper. It's so gorgeous. What someone down there said about making one as a birthday card is a great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing more or your marble paper stuff.
Hey Nik. I haven't made a zine before but will now! I don't think any of us would have complained if your video was super duper long since it's been a while. Haa. The hole punch is very cool. ☮️
Oh I love your creativity Nik, especially the vintage photos. I will try to create that kjnd of journalling, it looks easy to do and I have the materials. Thank you for sharing the ideas.
I think I finally have my husband trained well. When he is out and about if he finds things he now thinks hmmm I wonder if she could use this?? He brought me home 4 little links of chain the other day and said I saw that on the ground thought you could use it. He brings home little tiny flowers that a lot of men might not see (NOT all men) and says I thought you could put this in with the pulp when you make paper. How awesome is he hehehe Question though... when I was a child, we took pages of magazines and newspapers and what have you and cut it up and put it on paper, we called it collages so what makes this a Zine and not a collage??? is it that this is in book style?? Thank-you for sharing, always lots to learn from you, and I enjoy every second of it. Have a lovely day!!!
good question! I honestly don't think there are any hard and fast rules either way. I think as far as a zine is concerned, its created to give a message or tell a story from the creator...whatever that message or story may be!
I discovered zines last year and tried to get my 10 year old son into them as a way to be creative with him while my daughter and I did junk journals. Not so excited. BUT he loves DR. Who, so if you did want to do a Dr. Who zine, and did a video about it, I would love to see what that sort of zine would look like. Hard to get him engaged around all the vintage and cutsie stuff my daughter likes! But I really want to create with him. You could have a whole new fan base! (-:
You are completely crazy!! I laughed so much all the way through because you really are so real, and not afraid to appear daft! Firstly I had NO idea what a Zine was ..... then after a few minutes it dawned on me it was a mini magazine - like duh! What a fun idea to make. Love your videos , and have started very amateurishly ( is that a word?) to make a couple of books - they aren't very good, I bled profusely each time I stabbed myself with the needles I used to sew the signatures in - but it was worth it. I love my new art journal and have every intention of making some more books - all thanks to you. Love and hugs from the UK xxxxx
Yes I agree--Fabri-Tac and 3-in-1 are the same--I mean I highly suspect so. I was just sitting here hoping youd show uo soon. Love your stuff. (That's not intended to be a guilt trip :)
Hello lovely! I always click so fast when your notifications pop up...I swear one day I'm going to dislocate my clicker finger!! I've always wanted to make a zine, and these are just fantastic! I've really gta get it in gear! Anywho, hurry back...please...we miss you while you're gone!! ☺ Hugs darlin, Christina ~
I love that your hubby keeps an eye out for papers and things for you...my mom does the same. Isn't that sweet of them. PatriciaD (I always "like" your videos even before I watch them knowing I'm gonna like them...might as well so I don't forget, right!!)
These are so stinkin cute !!!! You make everything look so simple and easy !!! lol Is that cardstock paper that has the pretty writing,,,, love it !!!! TFS
HI THERE-I MISSED YOU-BEEN WATCHING LOTS OF YOUR OLDER VIDEOS-THESE .LITTLE BOOKLETS ARE SO CUTE-I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT NAME BEFORE-I GUESS THAT MAKES ME VERY LAME-LOL- I ALSO USE TO WATCH DR. WHO---THAT PICTURE OF YOU THAT YOU SHOWED US IS VERY COOL- THANKS FOR SHARING-HAVE A BLESSED DAY
Zines are limited published booklets, pamphlets. About anything. They have been around since Thomas Paine. Most I have zine are hand made from images to handwritten. And what really makes a zine are the limited copies like less than 100. And what dominates Zines in recent years are photo copying.
Nik, I absolutely adore your work! You have such interesting ideas and are so amusing to watch. Could you please tell me how you printed the mini Polaroid pictures? I have been searching on how to print them. I want to make a zine for my niece’s wedding and I love the mini pics. I would greatly appreciate it! ❤️
hi Sandy =) I just printed out the photos in small squares on white paper and made sure there was enough room between them to cut the poloroid shape from the white paper =)
I think this was it, Jill =) www.amazon.com/96-Sheet-Stationery-Paper-Certificate-Invitations/dp/B01L2OMUHS/ref=sr_1_1?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1530674780&sr=8-1&keywords=96-Sheet+Stationery+Paper+-+Old+Fashion+Aged+Classic+Vintage+Antique+Design%2C+Double+Sided+%E2%80%93+6+Designs+-+Perfect+for+Printing%2C+Copying%2C+Crafting%2C+Tickets%2C+Certificate%2C+Invitations%2C+8.5+x+11+Inches
Love the idea of having and making these sweet, little "zines". If you don't mind me asking, where did you find the vintage, script printing for the cover, the image of the oak tree and that little house? Did you download them from the internet or are the images included in Photoshop software or from another software program? Many thanks for all the great tutorials you post here on YT!
hi Mary! Unfortunately, Photoshop does not come with any images. I've been in graphic design for over 15 years so I have a collection that Ive gathered over the years. But, there are some websites that have images to use like thegraphicsfairy.com and olddesignshop.com =)
I add zines to my happy mail as just something fun. Make copies (before you staple) of the zine so you can share with many friends. There is another way to fold them so everything it on one side of the paper making it really easy to copy.
howdy! I just went to dafont.com and downloaded some free use computer fonts =) Can't remember what that one is called...sometimes I rename them, so that would not help you at all, would it? =/
Love your zines! I hate to be a bearer of bad news but you have an extra a on the quote about a picture tells a thousand words etc. I know you would like to fix that.
Hi Nik!! Love your channel!! I would love to have word stamps like that! It would make my life so much easier! lol but I can't find them on Amazon. Could you send me the link?
Glad to see you back, great tutorial. I love making Zines, I fold mine so it can be laid flat and photocopied. I send them to my kids who all live far away. I put local news in it, chatty stuff about their friends, a recipe and photos. They are just fun to make!
I was imagining your husband doing a super-hero-dive toward the recycling bin in slow-mo saying, "Noooooooo! Nik needs that computer paper with the holes!" LOVE this!!! :-)
ha! it would have def been slo-mo 😄
For someone just starting out, like me, a zine is a great idea for advertising to include free in shipments, as handouts at events, as mini-catalogs to show examples (like the second zine you showed in this vid). A great idea. Thank you!
This is interesting! I could see doing these for different ancestors. My other hobby is genealogy.
“You’d think I would have a journal lying around to write things in” - hilarious! Nice zines Nik :)
Stampers we’re making these 'Faux Mags' back in the early 90's . They were soooo much fun! Glad to see they are making a comeback.
Before zines there was “mail art” circa 1970’s 😘
I like this. You could put it in a journal as a page or extra book within a book. Drop a Zine, great idea!!! LOVE your quotes!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
So sweet.. Doing one for my brother to remember his youth as a bday card...
Mary Lou Grabowsky such a lovely idea, thank you for sharing it!

I'm new to the journaling world and Zine is my learned word for the day! Thank you for the great instructions presented with wit and humor.
This seems like a good way for people to get their feet wet in the world of junk journaling. I have been wanting to take the leap and I think I will start with one of these. Happy to see you back!

I really like these.
I'm inspired to make a zine! Love the old oak. When you use the wet glue does it buckle or wrinkle the paper? Thanks!
So stinking cute! Love your videos! By chance would you have a link to the paper from amazon?

Fun video!! Love the idea of showing your journals in a zine!
Where did you the alpha stamp thingy and what is it called? Thanks!
hi JoAnn, just search "snap together alphabet stamps" on amazon, there are several on there last time I looked!
Love them. I must research this thingy
Aimee Furman heya Aimee! There's a description of what a zine is under the video that may help clear up some questions :)
Love it
❤️❤️❤️
Where do I find your free class? May have been watching an old video but don’t think so. October 2018 in the “real” world.
Nice to see you back, hope you're ok.
How did you staple the middle of the zine?
Where did you get the picture of the dudes! Love it!
hi Constance! I honestly cannot remember, but if I come across it again, I will be sure to give you a holler =)
Lovely Nik but I don’t understand what a Zine is and where do we use them
lynne quinn hi Lynne! There is a definition of a zine in the description box under the video :)
I add zines to my happy mail as just something fun. Make copies (before you staple) of the zine so you can share with many friends. There is another way to fold them so everything it on one side of the paper making it really easy to copy.
Do tell...
Thanks everyone for your replies very helpful
Super cute
Hey Nik! Love your work. Question: what font do you use for your numbers on the labels? Love the look!! Toodles 😊
howdy! I just went to dafont.com and downloaded some free use computer fonts =) Can't remember what that one is called...sometimes I rename them, so that would not help you at all, would it? =/
Nik the Booksmith no worries...I will look around there. Thanks so much!
I call the computer paper edging industrial lace.
Great ...👍🏻😘
Love your zines! I hate to be a bearer of bad news but you have an extra a on the quote about a picture tells a thousand words etc. I know you would like to fix that.
😄 ugh...my spelling!!
Not only are you not the only person who hasn't done a vid on zines...I have not done one...and I had no idea what a zine is. =(
=)))
See you Thursday :)
Hi Nik!! Love your channel!! I would love to have word stamps like that! It would make my life so much easier! lol but I can't find them on Amazon. Could you send me the link?
I will try to find a link when I get back, but try searching "snap together letter stamps"...should pop up!
Nik the Booksmith I found them! Thank you so much!😁
Please tell me what I have to ask for the paper you used in this video and the item number. Thx Judy
hi Judy, the paper is at amazon, just search for "double-sided antique Stationery" its a 96 page pack =)
