Aside from slides and narrative being so far out of synch., this is a fine tutorial. It helps to understand the difficulties in launching Titanic's lifeboats. One begins to realize that had Titanic been equipped with more boats, it may not have been able to launch them in the time allowed. Obviously, it takes a well trained Able Seaman, Boatswain's Mate, or Quartermaster to perform this complicated operation safely and efficiently, especially while under stress.
great information, very helpful. Just a heads up it was hard to follow because you start talking about the photos and parts 20 seconds before the photo updates to show what you're talking about. besides that, great help. thank you
Thanks very much for the feedback. Difficult to keep audio and visual synced when I upload powerpoint to UA-cam. I use another platform for over 20 (and rising) nautical rapid elearning lessons. It's called spreespirit.myicourse.com and it's free. Send my your email and I'll set up an account and send you instructions on how to use it.
why give a tutorial on obsolete equipment? Open lifeboats have not been permitted for use on ships since 01/07/1986. In general this is a rather poor and very dated tutorial.
Thank you for your comments, Mr David. In some parts of the world, we are rather poor and very dated and only have access to outdated equipment that we maintain to avoid our seaman having the expense of travelling abroad. By the way, I did a trip on an 180 metre long LPG tanker in 1988, and she had open lifeboats, because she was built in the early 1970s. Surely, a ship equipment expert like you would know that if a ship was built before the date stated in a regulation and is still serviceable, certified, she does not have to replace the lifeboats. There are a lot of old ships here, in the Caribbean. And as an education expert you, would know that the names of the parts of the davit are the same whether the lifeboat is enclosed, partially enclosed, or open. Thanks again.
Excellent tutorial. This is better than the USCG instruction on Lifeboats. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback. I have more videos at spreespirit.myicourse.com
