  • In this episode I take you on a trip to US-2169 to activate it with my "new-to-me" Ten Tec Scout 555 transceiver and see what I can do using single side band for a change. I have not used single side band in quite some time and this radio has enough RF power to make it viable as a SSB radio. The Ten Tec Scout is a unique little HF transceiver in that is is a mono band radio, but not just any mono band radio..instead it is modular in that you can change it to run on any HF band of your choosing by simply inserting the appropriate band module of your choice into the radio. This unique feature makes the Ten Tec Scout have an almost cult following and people now pay high prices for these venerable little radios.
I work some CW for a while on 40 meters then switch over to 20 meters as that antenna has lower Q so the bandwidth of the antenna is wider. This will allow me to work CW as well as SSB without having to re-tune the antenna. So after working a little CW of 20 meters I move up into the fray which is single side band and jump in. I work a ton of people here and have a great time with only a couple of instances where the crowded band conditions caused me grief. I even work my friend KG4WBI on ground wave three miles away! What a day for ham radio!
Hit the like and such if you liked the video, I am still working out the kinks in making videos about amateur radio so these will get better with time...

Thank you. I make a lot of mistakes in sending if I get the keyer running too fast. Lol. I am good to maybe 25 words per minute like I am but I can barely copy at that speed to so it is fine for me. 🤣
