I was a child in the 80s. My little brother and I bought gijoe dolls and vehicles. We loved them. I'm 47 years old and I still like gijoe. A pleasure to see this video.
This is an amazing build! I for one have been inspired by your custom FLAGG base and made my own because of you! You have impacted the whole FLAGG/JOE community and I for one appreciate ALL your enthusiasm and love for the JOES! Thank you…YO JOE…burg
Very cool, I had a few Joe figures when I was a kid. 53 yrs old and this takes me back. Thank you for posting. Another UA-camr made a video on the USS Flag and if someone can find an original one today………$1000s!!!! 😮
Best custom Flagg I have seen with great use of space in the hull for display. I just bought the flight deck and will order the bow and stern and superstructure, some small parts and build the rest from wood and pvc. Its going on the wall so I can have a underwater battle with Cobra and Joe sub vehicles and scuba troops below the carrier.
Absolutely incredible.....wow. The time and effort gone into this has paid off. Fantastic and seeing videos like this has started my Flagg itch up again.
This is so awesome! Just really great work. Creating all that space under the Flagg also doubles the play value IMO. I am envious of people who have the pace for something that big, but more power to everyone who does, cause it really is a great center piece of a collection.
now that was a good idea of using MDF you gave it a crispness awesome wood working skills and the paint job that you did on the conquest you hit it out of the ballpark
awesome mods. one time i saw some guy have the entire Gijoe headquarters under the FLAGG. and I saw another person with LED lights throughtout the bottom area. with Crews quarters also under the bottom area. some pretty cool stuff out there.
You definitely inspired a new way for everyone to re-appreciate the Flagg. Since I don't have one, I'll have to completely build one from scratch! Lol It's ok though, I'm going to need a longer & wider deck. I have several types of aircraft & they all won't fit. I'm thinking, perhaps 1.5 m by 3.5 m or so.
@@gijoburg Even though I wish I had been lucky to have it as a kid, I'm probably better off just seeing what others do with theirs ha ha. I never had enough room and still don't for a 7 footlong playset ha ha.
I just got a Flagg yesterday and have been watching videos with custom Flagg bulds. I’m pretty excited to get to the hardware store tomorrow to start my own, the first step yesterday was cleaning the parts and getting my retro brite tank ready to whiten the structure! Next, I need to extend the “water” part of my diorama to put the hull on!
@@gijoburg sure is. I've never had the space before. But I have a room with space for a proper display now, so you're right- it's a pretty exciting time!
The Flagg is very small for an aircraft carrier, but it’s a play set, so I’m not mad at that. You guys do some absurdly impressive stuff for your joes that I frankly don’t have the resources for. The chief thing I’m noticing here that I want to point out is 1. I feel like a seagoing vessel would merit some weathering, at least on the parts that wouldn’t influence the overall collectibility of it. 2. Have you considered some kind of paneling that could wild out if you needed access? What I mean by wild out is move out of the way. Seems like you could do some kind of maybe latching or magnetic panels to give the Flagg a proper hull for exterior shots. Also I don’t know if the Flagg came with them but I’ve found some 3D printed arrestor hooks for Skystrikers if you want added realism… :) Well done, fellows.
@@gijoburg I did some poking around after my comment and found out they made a tail hook for the skystriker, but the ones I saw used the screw sockets and fit more naturally. Also, come to think of it I think I’ve seen where you put your Flagg on water.
That is a good-looking X-30. Since you said you prefer it over a chrome one, Retroblasting will probably take it personally and cry about it with a Facebook screen cap.
No need to take a swipe at a content creator here Thor. That’s not my intention with my comment at all. C’mon man, that’s not what we do here. And I know the RB crew well enough to know there will be no such screen cap or crying!
Very cool my man, if a ever get a flagg I'll definitely modify it similar to this but for right now I have my own plans to make a carrier fleet so to speak basically what I'll do is take a table add some drawers on the underside for a makeshift interior then add a carrier deck and Tower or maybe add Shelf instead of drawers as to have a functional elevator but I'll have one based on the kitty hawk-class carrier then for more based on the Nimitz-class carrier two from the Pacific fleet and two from the Atlantic fleet then one based on the ulyanovsk-class carrier witch was a project for a Russian nuclear-powered supercarrier during the cold war but was never finished before the collapse of the Soviet Union then one more based on the Essex-class specifically the USS Lake Champlain as to not have to worry about the angled deck like most other modified Essex-class carriers then one more that I don't know what I'm going to make it but probably either another Essex-class or ulyanovsk-class or maybe an old British aircraft carrier or even a modern helicopter carrier like the Australian Canberra-class or something, but when I'm done I'll have like eight of them maybe more.
Tremendous work by Alan! Yeah it seems odd to see a non-modified FLAGG lately. I did a modification myself: the Three-Missiled Devilfish. Most Devilfish have 4 missiles but I modified mine to have 3 for a slicker, sleaker Devilfish experience.
I had GI Joe stuff when I was a kid, but it was never my #1 (Star Wars, He-man, and Lego were my top 3) And I only once even got a glimpse of the Flagg. (A kid in my scout troop had one and we went to his house for something and I saw his, but we were busy and he wasn't a close friend I could visit again.) Anyway, the Flagg was super cool, but not really on my Christmas lists. I saw the first video about building a lower deck, which was cool, but I haven't seen anyone really make it really cool. The outer walls just go down straight and other than doors I don't really see much detail. I'm big into 3d printing and I think it would be cool to make one that has the walls sloping and lots of little details. I'd love to do something like that, but I'm not looking to spend 3-10k on this toy just to make the lower level.
It was always an imperative that I wouldn’t spend more than US$100 on the upgrades. If I was to do it, I would do it inexpensively. I wasn’t too hung up on the form; just the function. Wanted to get vehicles under my Flagg and to be able to move the Flagg about. Check! Check! Check! 😄
HOWEVER if you are looking at inspiring detail work, the internet is brimming with things people have done to their lower decks in the wake of our rudimentary efforts!
You have also inspired me to recollect my old Joes, along with the Flagg! Any thoughts to making a 3D printed base kit so the rest of us can cheat?! ;) Lol, at this point in my life I have the money, but no time! Great work, and keep inspiring us! Yo Joe!
I just wanted to know how big a real scale 1:18 flagg would be so I did the math for everyone. Length: 1093/18=60.05 FEET Width (flight deck): 252/18=14 FEET Width (at the water): 130/18=7 FEET Is anyone up for a Guiness book of world records build?
Thanks for crunching the numbers! I’d say give it a Google - I’ve seen a few R/C enthusiasts with carriers that they launch their planes from approaching the 1/18 scale; then there was some guy who built one in his basement and I think it was intended for GI JOE. Must have a basement the size of a convention centre to pull that off I reckon! But at least it’s out of the weather 😂
