This is what has happened in the USofA the past 3-4 decades, sorta starting with Mr Ronald Reagan (his saying that 'government IS the problem', thereby taking the first step in the direction of loss of trust in long established and respected American institutions) and this has continued into judicial appointments that are, at the very least highly questionable as far as ability is concerned (Clarence Thomas, eg). Add to this legislators who are, again at the very least, less smarter than a fifth-grade student (Michele Bachman, among MANY others). There has been, by and large, an erosion in the caliber of people in our three branches of government. To illustrate just one branch, the judiciary: until a couple of decades ago, Supreme Courts all over the world were constantly quoting citing US Supreme Court decisions. They no longer do so. Why? Supreme Court appointees for political reasons than for ability. Two of the last three US presidents - Junior who first strained the planet's credulity, and now Trump, a total abomination of a human bring. The world laughed at Bush (Junior) and now the world is horrified (terrified?) by Trump
The US constitution has many qualities. But it has 2 *major* failures:
1) Encouraging a two-party system.
2) Not preventing the SCOTUS for being a partisan political battleground.
For god sake, the Dems have better block Any Supreme Court nominees! Give the republicans a taste of their own medicine.

It is hypocrisy because Scalia died long before the end of Obama's term and he was well within his right to elect someone but was blocked regardless. It's why Obama wanted to nominate a centrist like Merrick Garland that most republicans in congress actually approved of yet was still denied because republicans don't actually want a centrist--they want a lapdog. John McCain also said that if Hillary was elected, congress would block any nomination she made.
