That's exactly what a horror movie director wants. They want you to believe this is real. They want you to be disgusted. If you don't like that sort of thing, then don't watch horror films. No one is forcing you to see these types of movies and you have every right to watch something else.
when he say's "I looked at what audiences liked' etc. that's what makes him different from a true artist. A true artist makes what they themselves want to make and let the audience think what they want.
Of course...:) I live in Hungary, we go to Slovakia and Romania every year...there's a lot of hot springs there:P and a lot of Skiparadise too:)it's very cheap and the people are very kind...there's no killing there like in the movie:)
@Johnlindsey289 Ha, JL, hows it going? You're a Horror board member, right? I would compare it too more the Saw franchise than the Elm Street or Friday series as the later two are part of the Slasher genre.
While he may be a little on the cocky side (can you really blame him after his success?) I find alot of Roth's statements are closely or completely true. Anyone can argue that his movies aren't masterpieces plot-wise or what have you, but keep in mind the POTENTIAL he has to become better. I see many good things to come from Roth if he keeps improving and expanding his craft.
I think what Eli did with not upping the gore factor all that much was brilliant. Where you have films like the Saw franchise, I feel they need to up the gore level to keep a part of the audience coming back for the next installment. Its actually quite sad.
Haha, he's got a funny way of justifying the extreme gore. "With the war in Iraq, the teenagers want something to scream at." I don't know if I agree completely with that theory but, hey I enjoy the films so whatever you need to tell yourself, Eli.
The hostel series is basically the subtext to American xenophobia. Why do they fear other cultures? Well because weird sadists might lock them up in a dungeon & torture them.
It's not dangerous...it's a stereotype that Middle Europe is dangerous...if u like skiing, then Slovakia is the best, but Austria and Italia is also good for it.For mountain climbing or just to relax,Slovakia is a very good choice...as for my country, you should go to the capital city,Budapest...look after it in the travel agencies...:)
eli roth is the man cabin fevin is one of the grossest movies ive seen fucking feral n hostel was ok he def knows good movies mad max 2 is like one of the gretest movies ever havent seen hostel 2 yet but im bound to see it some time
Wow, and you're calling him stupid because of his opinion? Fact: Not everyone thinks Godfather 2 was a good sequel, many felt it was an insult to the first. Lesson learnt? Different people have different opinions.
Sorry Eli,,better if you keep the mystery as in Hostel one instead of revealing too much as in Hostel two! Hostel one leaves you wondering about the setup of the Torture for money system but Hostel two lays it all on the table and comes across as a lesser film than the original!
Well no, the idea of xenophobia was not Eli's goal, or even his intentions: The viewer themselves brought the idea of xenophobia into a movie that had nothing to do with it too begin with.
i thought the film was shit, i dont mind sick games eg manhunt but that is just a game to me, the movie brings a whole new realism to it. i got to say that its shit how movies like this are shoved straight into cinema whereas games are shoved straight into a court room (if u get me)
I find it rather amusing Eli thinks his films are more intelligent than they really are. They aren't "subversive commentaries" on the ignorance of Americans, they re merely gross-out slasher films.
To people who can't handle that people think this film is shit and that Eli Roth is a pathetic director- guess what? This film is shit and Eli Roth is a pathetic director.
i dont think he ever made it seem like those were the only 2 best sequels ever. he was simply naming 2 that came to mind. He is an excellent director.
This is why they should have a proper critic for each genre...

Is it true that 'Paxtor' from part I is also in Hostel 2 ?
You can't knock this film, it's a fantastic idea for a horror
what was the point of rewinding it??
She actually tried getting a screening on Ken Park in Australia, she said it was "a wonderful film".
i agree, he has so much potential.
when he say's "I looked at what audiences liked' etc. that's what makes him different from a true artist. A true artist makes what they themselves want to make and let the audience think what they want.
What's there rating out of?? They said 2, but what is that out of?
Jacob Cerin k, thanks
I love how it goes from Driving Lessons to Hostel haha
Of course...:) I live in Hungary, we go to Slovakia and Romania every year...there's a lot of hot springs there:P and a lot of Skiparadise too:)it's very cheap and the people are very kind...there's no killing there like in the movie:)

I know, I screwed up the recording and couldn't really be bothered at all to run it through Final Cut
So you actually spoke to Eli Roth did you? Did he clue you in about his goals?
what about the buzz saw scene and the cannibal scene? I'd say that was gory...
I think what Eli did with not upping the gore factor all that much was brilliant.

It's kind of the hole point with gore movies, don't u think?
Isn't it ironic that one of the "clients" wimps out at the idea of a needle and yet he's about to torture someone else to death?!
What's more scary than the finite fact that you are pretty much incapable of escaping a living nightmare?
1st one was way more scary and better its more scary when you don't see gore the imagination is more willing to jump to conclusion
Don't keep your hopes up, he's not in there for very long
they had two different tones, the first one was the scare you senseless theme and the second one was more of a one you would show your girlfriend
Haha, he's got a funny way of justifying the extreme gore. "With the war in Iraq, the teenagers want something to scream at." I don't know if I agree completely with that theory but, hey I enjoy the films so whatever you need to tell yourself, Eli.

because thats their own opinion, thats what critics do. :)
I think he is a ok director, some people just can't handle gory movies.
@Avatar7811 But not watching this film is kinda paramount to her... you know... Doing her job.
Mad Max 2 and the Empire Strikes Back the best sequels? Ever heard of the Godfather Part 2? Real genius director.
I am not a big fan for Hostel Part II. I really enjoyed Hostel but part II I felt was not very good and it was kind of a waste of time type of cliche.
hostel isnt scary or that gory at all, my mind would be scarier if I could release it in a film.
eli roth is the man cabin fevin is one of the grossest movies ive seen fucking feral n hostel was ok he def knows good movies mad max 2 is like one of the gretest movies ever havent seen hostel 2 yet but im bound to see it some time
@Avatar7811 The name calling isn't exactly all that necessary, butter cup.
are you insane? I'm italian and with this movie I love america even more! WTF is wrong with you haters?
Wow, and you're calling him stupid because of his opinion? Fact: Not everyone thinks Godfather 2 was a good sequel, many felt it was an insult to the first. Lesson learnt? Different people have different opinions.
Cannibal holocaust and ich the killer is way more brutal then hostel seris. It makes hostel look like a sunday picnick.
No, but it's obvious enough to see what his intentions are. He's stated as much in interviews. Xenophobia was not one of them.
its more like Hos-tel... but shes australian, americans say it like Hostile.
@kapokii indicting them as killers, obviously.
the ending? it was undeserving, especially after how Roth talked it up as "the best ending in horror history".
Hostel 2 wasn't as good as the first but still was pretty enjoyable
great ending, but the rest of the film isn't 'all that'
then im sick. sorry
sequels always kill it
I'm guessing you don't take personal criticism very well in your own life.
Sorry Eli,,better if you keep the mystery as in Hostel one instead of revealing too much as in Hostel two! Hostel one leaves you wondering about the setup of the Torture for money system but Hostel two lays it all on the table and comes across as a lesser film than the original!
I thought hostel 2 was fun, not as good as the original but still cool
Whose Idea was it to get a middle-aged woman who's probably going through menopause to give a review of a horror film made in 2006?
Well no, the idea of xenophobia was not Eli's goal, or even his intentions: The viewer themselves brought the idea of xenophobia into a movie that had nothing to do with it too begin with.
they not english they're australian
what about the castration
i thought the film was shit, i dont mind sick games eg manhunt but that is just a game to me, the movie brings a whole new realism to it. i got to say that its shit how movies like this are shoved straight into cinema whereas games are shoved straight into a court room (if u get me)
yeah, that was weird! "the gender chance made me slightly unfomfortable"
wtf?
North to Hungary, south to Poland, west to Ukraine...it's in middle Europe...:)
i didnt like part 2 i reckon part 1 was heaps better
gird your loins wing your shoulders???? Does that actually mean anything? I think this show's scriptwriter needs to be fired.
I find it rather amusing Eli thinks his films are more intelligent than they really are. They aren't "subversive commentaries" on the ignorance of Americans, they re merely gross-out slasher films.
it was superior to the 1st
I hate fucking critics they should get a new job and quit judging people work.
they way you write makes you sound ignorant.
To people who can't handle that people think this film is shit and that Eli Roth is a pathetic director- guess what? This film is shit and Eli Roth is a pathetic director.
