- Bachelor’s Beach is on of the few true sand beaches on the island. While 250 feet long, depending on the tide, it can be ten feet front to back or underwater. Still, all that sand makes for a very easy entry. There is a ladder and chilled rock steps, so getting down isn’t that bad either.
We saw a number of uncommon animals here like a king helmet, shy hamlet, lane snapper, spiny flower coral, teardrop crab and a beaded anemone. We also got to enjoy a very large bait ball of scad being herded by jack crevasse and horse-eye jacks. Not enough to pique your interest? Let’s throw turtles and squid into the mix!
And don’t forget to bring a few bucks for a burger at the King Kong food truck.

@@TropicLens - Excellent, took 4 other friends who have never dove in Bonaire and have little experience with shore diving. I think they all loved it, especially realizing the freedom shore diving gives you. Hope to get back again soon as well as many other places.
Ahhh! I wish I could go their with my dad and siblings and also with my children. It is my childhood dream to snorkeling and diving in such an amazing place, even I didn't do it in my entire life 😅💔.

Have you ever thought of doing a site/dive focused primarily on relatively "plain and boring" but underrated sandy bottoms? Also, plan on visiting elsewhere in the Caribbean beyond the ABC islands in the future?
Hi Dominique. We try to mention the interesting life in the shallows each video, but haven't done one exclusively on the shallows. It might be a fun exercise to pull one together...sort of the best finds across the island shallows to showcase what you can see. Will think about pulling a script together for that. :-)
Our ABC trip ends in October, when we go to Grand Cayman (if they open up.) Leslie and I visited GC a number of times before we retired, so it will be fun to go back and document for The Shore Dive Collection series. After that, its back to the US for holidays with the family and then a liveaboard in Raja Ampat in January. Beyond, that, we are not sure. Any suggestions for (even small) concentrations of shore diving sites?
@@TropicLens Hey, that sounds cool. Regarding shore diving sites, I've never done anything beyond snorkeling and the local tourist submarine, so I definitely am not one to give first hand experience. But I can say, that where I'm from in Barbados has lots of shallow fringing reefs right on the shore, and nearby but deeper patch reefs along essentially the entire west coast as well as lots of wrecks. Lots of sea turtles too. Not the healthiest reefs in the region, but if you know what to look for, there's still lots to see and prbly more shore diving sites than you can hope to visit.
Actually getting into the water should be easy since there's usually lots of sand.
