I built some beautiful cedar coffee tables before the wood was acclimated. They lasted about a year before they cracked, and I had to redo them. This is a much bigger deal than people realize, especially with hardwood

If you buy a dehumidifier,I suggest you buy an extension on the warranty . Mine runs 24x7 . They last about 25-27 months before I am hauling it back to the big box store . They have always been great about replacing it . Your looking at 300-400 so 50 for doubling the warranty has been well worth it . Cheers

I was taught as a kid, erm, over 50 years ago that when ripping a board on a table saw always have the smaller part as an off-cut with the larger piece against the fence. NEVER cut off a strip against the fence. Pretty much common sense IMHO. You can't control a small strip very well (grrripper not withstanding and I love mine) against the fence with the lever of the large piece outboard. I shudder when I see YT videos of peeps cutting strips against the fence for repeated cuts. *sigh* use a stop block on the other side outside the blade as a reference before the blade. Much safer and arguably more accurate. Best table saw safety tip I've ever been given: PAUSE before you cut and THINK TWICE about what's going on and what might happen WITH EVERY cut. Accidents happen mostly when you think "it's just one quick cut...".

  • @scottbyrd2157
    @scottbyrd2157 4 місяці тому +1

Matt!! In your video you spoke about table saw safety. On here (approximately 25:30) you did exactly what you’re telling everyone not to do by reaching to grab a thin tip off cut. Easy to do as we don’t even realize we are doing it. I didn’t think anything about it until I thought later and backed it up to see. I totally understand your message as I’ve seen many severe accidents like this over my past career. We all become complacent over time. I think the SAWSTOP is excellent example of a safety equipment. However that technology tends to make us let our guard down when operating on other equipment. I enjoy your videos and watch them as they do provide me with a situation awareness or retrain the mind to correct myself.
Hope you don’t take me wrong by telling you this..

For those of us with sub level basements….. especially us with some exposed dirt and major humidity issues, they do make dehumidifiers with a pump! My basement is below my houses sewer line. I have the same dehumidifier as shown and I have to try and remember to empty it several times a day. Which often does not happen. So I’ll be getting a new one with the pump so I can feed it out the window and into the back area or if I can tap into a drain higher up in my house.

Ray Stormont, PS One suggestion for most shops that I employ is to use over stock on sale mix and not matched (CHEAP) 9" vinyl tiles using epoxy adhesive to cover floors and create a tough water/vapor barrier that easy to clean (sweep) for my floors, Cutback for adhesive will be disolved if certain solvents and petro chemicles are spilled, any damaged spots are easy to remove and replace giving me a dry stable work space that I can place my projects directly on w/o worry even makes scratches a thing of the past.

While they have different spellings, acclimate, acclimatise, and acclimatize mean the same thing. These three words are most commonly used as a verb meaning “to become accustomed to a new climate or to new conditions.” The main difference between these three words is their origin and country of usage.

I never figured out why everyone seems to urge people to spend so much time and effort to create hardwood slides when you can get perfectly fitting aluminum bars for a few bucks apiece. Also, with a little work, you can tap in some threads and countersink on the side of aluminum bars for nylon screws that you can adjust to remove slop (which you probably won't need anyway). Also also, aluminum bars don't wear down or warp.

I’m not sure that dehumidifier would help in my garage shop. It’s regularly over 100 degrees here in summer and well over 60% humidity. 100% is not unusual. Our garage door is not insulated. We can’t build basements here. The water table is 6” down. But absolutely NOT storing lumber on the floor. Our garage floor regularly gets soaked in high humidity. A climate-controlled shed is in my dreams. And I ALWAYS acclimate my lumber before use, sometimes inside my house if I’m making indoor furniture. In that case, I do a lot of work in my kitchen which has tile. Easy to clean.

99% of woodworking UA-cam videos are people who think because they know how to do something, that everyone does, so they move way too fast and skip alot of things or they're just showing off their festools, table saws and dunking on beginners.

How can you in good conscience keep titling videos as: 99% of woodworkers don’t know… Are you polling all woodworkers on that subject; I think not. Please stop making claims that are just hyperbole just to get clicks.

I’ve got a couple of those wall racks they’re fantastic.
Hi Matt can I ask something when cutting on table saw you feed the wood in from the left to the fence and the bit of wood on the right side the blade and fence is the bit you want. Can you cut the wood if it comes in from the left. So everything is the mirror image if you understand what I mean. My son is left handed and I’m right.
    Cheers Steve 👨🏼‍🦽👨🏼‍🦽🇬🇧

Weird I thought I was looking at Woodworking contents, not to religious content. Where can I get content on wood without religious or political message ?

So giant corporations can make political and values-based statements in their stores and an individual UA-camr can’t wear a t-shirt?

Who needs all their fingers? I just. Sure those push sticks are great but we all aren't going to buy them. Just don't put it in your table saw. And don't saw and drink
