Phra Dan (Bhante Dhammarakkhita, Bhikkhu) is a Theravada Buddhist Monk who lived in India from 2020, Thailand and now Sri Lanka. Born in Sussex, England in 1967. Educated by French Catholic Monks. A successful businessman in Estate Agency and Financial Services during the 1980's and 90's. Married, now divorced with 3 adult son's. 2000 marked change and travel including South Africa returning to the UK in 2003 to continue different work and business activities until 2012. Gradually materialistic values turned to renunciation, simplicity and meditation, living nomadically in an old Ford Transit van full time for 3 years. Van life and meditation led to Buddhism and a Thai Forest Tradition, Theravada Buddhist Monastery in the UK. During 2015 travelling the Buddhist Holy Sites of India, deep faith reinforced desire for Ordination. In 2020 after 5 years of intensive meditation practice between Thai Forest Monasteries in Thailand and England he was Ordained in India where he lived for 3 years until returning to Thailand in 2023 and now Sri Lanka.

I'm a Muslim but I'm surprised by Buddhism
Life and teaching of budha and monks I'm taking while following my religious teachings
And it's peaceful to learn and I have huge respect for monks they really are very intelligent people
And food looked very delicious 😋 I feel hungry now
As for me, I consider Buddhism as a path to peace of mind rather than a religion, and Buddha himself as a Great Teacher rather than a Supreme God. That's why I don't think respected beings such as Jesus or Allah or other Gods/Goddesses will be displeased when their followers take Buddha's teachings and have peace in their souls.
I'm delighted to know that a brother/sister Muslim is taking my Great Teacher (Buddha)'s teachings.

Hey Bhante, I have a question.....many monks eat meat but the Buddha forbidden meat for the Buddhist. Then why do we normal Buddhist and monks eat meat? Do you eat meat?
Hi Adiba, thank you for watching and your comment. The Buddha did not forbid eating meat or suggest anyone should be vegetarian. The first precept is no killing and means just that. If meat is given to you or you purchase it as meat this is not breaking that precept. Monks have to eat whatever they are given and can not chose from one thing or another. However it would be breaking our monastic rules if we were to request or accept meat killed especially for us. I do not eat meat but I am offered sufficient food to be selective although if meat is given I accept it gratefully and give it away. I will answer this again in the next Q&A's video so please SUBSCRIBE and visit again. Be well and be happy.
@@englishmonk thank you very much for the reply and the info. I'd love to watch your videos more.

Can a Buddhist have a family life as well (wife and children)?
Yes a Buddhist can but not a Buddhist Monk. Monks and Nuns are celibate but they may have had families previously before their Ordination.
What all monks eat Onion And garlic 🤔
Not all monks but I'll talk about this further in a future Q&A's video. Thank you for watching and your comments. Sukhi Hontu
How to become a Buddhist monastery...please guide me..
You can watch the video on this channel titled HOW to BECOME a MONK. The rest depends on your circumstances, location and commitment. It takes a lot of time and determination. Keeping the 8 Precepts in lay life will help you. Good luck and best wishes. Anumodana Sukhi Hontu
How can you live in India if you are English? Do you have a visa?

@@englishmonk i would like to go in India or Myanmar/Thailand. By the way, would you like to have a collaboration with me about Theravada Buddhism?

Do buddhists eat onion?
Buddhist Monks In the Southern traditions do but in some of the Northern traditions they do not eat Onions, Garlic, Leaks or anything of that nature. Lay Buddhists can eat anything. Good question Krishna, thank you.
Was it onion?? Do they eat onions
Yes, we eat onion. Thank you for watching and your comment. Please SUBSCRIBE and visit again
Ohk.. Thank u
Some Buddhist Monks in other traditions in China for example, do not eat onion, garlic, leaks or similar types of vegetables
What's the problem with onions?
Avoid onion sir
Monk's only eat what is given so can not chose. Be happy and stay well.
Excuse me. I think monks should think about "enjoy your meal" because monks have meals only to sustain life not for enjoy eating actually
. This is a standard way ot monks life in Thailand.
Correction the commenting above;

Hence:
[Paṭisaṅkhā] yoniso piṇḍapātaṃ paṭisevāmi, neva davāya, na madāya, na maṇḍanāya, na vibhūsanāya, yāvadeva imassa kāyassa ṭhitiyā, yāpanāya, vihiṃsūparatiyā, brahmacariyānuggahāya, iti purāṇañca vedanaṃ paṭihaṅkhāmi, navañca vedanaṃ na uppādessāmi, yātrā ca me bhavissati anavajjatā ca phāsuvihāro cā'ti
Wisely reflecting, I use almsfood: not for fun, not for pleasure, not for fattening, not for beautification, only for the maintenance and nourishment of this body, for keeping it healthy, for helping with the Holy Life; thinking thus, 'I will allay hunger without overeating, so that I may continue to live blamelessly and at ease.'
As a Bhikkhu I reflect on this daily

That's up to you.
Buddhism is an atheist religion, so Buddhists don't believe in God.
Attention,onion is forbidden
In the Northern Traditions yes but not the Southern Traditions. Do you know where the Buddha made this rule and why?
@@englishmonk He mentioned this rule in The Śūraṅgama Sūtra
@@englishmonk There are plenty reasons:on of the most important is that by eating plants like onion garlic or shallot in western cause the increase of hormone in bad way
Yes, Mahayana not Theravada an apocryphal text, added later in Chinese traditions not that of the original teachings. It would have been very difficult for the Buddha to refuse allium food groups as it is so prevalent in his native Indian. As monks our Vinaya, original Buddhist texts state only a few foods we are allowed to refuse, raw, human, lion, snake or anything we know to have been specifically killed for our consumption. Be happy and well.
@@yutongluo440causes the increase of what hormone specifically?
In Hindu.. a monk don't eat onion n garlic
Buddhist monks do. Be happy and stay well.
