Saw Cat Ballou as a kid countless times on TV, as an adult when I heard Lee Marvin won an Oscar for Best Actor, and beat out Shakespeare's heavyweight actors Lawrence Olivier and Richard Burton, and also Rod Steigar I was stunned, I'm like what! Cat Ballou is just a goofball, slapstick comedy, those guys were probably thinking " how the hell did this movie beat us?
I too was fairly baffled on viewing 'Cat Ballou' re: Marvin's Oscar win - having seen "The Pawnbroker' just before it and erroneously believing Steiger had won (Steiger could also have easily taken Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Komorovsky in 'Zhivago' [a role for which he was not nominated]) - but - and my jury is still VERY out on 'Ballou' (how does one ever understand Oscar politics) - if anyone has any doubts about the chops of Lee, be sure to see 'The Dirty Dozen': a revelation as to how very good an actor he was.
He was 🤩 & enjoyed : CatBallou with Jane Fonda & Lee Marvin who won an Oscar for portraying a hilarious drunk * Mike still looks 🤩 even at 86 years!! What I didn't know was he could dance & sing too !! And Dick Clark lives on with his New Years Rockin' Eve which he left to Ryan Seacrest & of course his history making Bandstand 🎶😊
Mike was at his best doing light comedies, IMHO
He was the guy that played in my occasional wife?
I first saw him in the movie with Dick Clark and I thought he was dreamy, as they said back then.
