  • Today's episode is all about the world's first supermodel Evelyn Nesbit, one of the real-life Gibson Girls, whose involvement in the controversial "trial of the century" made her even more famous. I'm going to show you how to recreate her iconic look!
    Thanks to Anna-Ester Volozh of Dragonbee studio (www.dragonbee.com) for the amazing intro animation!

    My name is Lucy, I'm a 23-year-old girl from the Netherlands, and I'm here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
    On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies & tv shows and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
    I do lifestyle and beauty videos as well, ranging from wearable everyday looks, makeup tips and DIY natural beauty treatments, to fashion lookbooks, vegetarian recipes and more extreme Halloween tutorials.
    If you enjoy history, you've come to the right place as well. I have a few series based on historical makeup and hairstyling that are my little passion projects.
    Enjoy browsing!

    I know this is five years ago, but I just tried this, and it turned out so beautiful on me. I have curly frizzy hair and it's hard to find hairstyles for my hair. It's my new favorite do. Thank you for sharing this.

    I would love you to do Frida Kahlo, I know she is really a standard beauty icon, but she has such a strong and personal look! Also someone suggested Amy Winehouse, I think it's a great idea!

    I don't think people are understanding what a "beauty beacon" is. Amy Winehouse isn't exactly going to go down in history as perfectly beautiful for our time like how Evelyn was considered beautiful and trend setting for the 1910's. Amy Winehouse was an amazing singer and person but i don't think people will remember her for being the spitting image of beautiful, like the other beauty beacons were in previous videos. (i love amy don't take this the wrong way)

      I agree. Same with all the Frida Kahlo suggestions. She doesn't fit beauty beacons.

    • @razerow3391
      @razerow3391 3 роки тому +2

      Beauty is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. Modern society dictates beauty can be within and Amy was seen as the epitome of tragedy and beauty.
      But ok.

    I'm so glad you did Evelyn Nesbit. I believe I was one of the many people who requested her a couple of months ago. Can you do Mary Pickford soon? She is one of the defining beauties of the 1920s. Also how about Empress Eugénie? She was the wife of Napoleon III who was the nephew of the more famous Napoleon. She was as fashionable as Princess Diana back in the 1800s and was the most famous client of the worlds first haute couture fashion designer Charles Fredrick Worth. She wore only the most extravagant ball gowns and wore her hair in low elaborate buns most of the time that were decorated with pearl crowns or flowers. She wore minimal makeup because that was the trend at that time but she did have a porcelain complexion. She was beautiful and she made high society aware of fashion and that the designers were just as important to the clothing as the creations themselves.

    I first learned about Nesbit from the movie Ragtime (1981). She was portrayed by Elizabeth McGovern, a lovely actress with the look straight out of the turn of 20th century. I didn't think anyone could surpass McGovern's beauty and charm in that role. That was before I experienced "Loopsy" recreating Nesbit's tresses. Pursuing an acting career is anything but the simple life this lovely woman seeks to celebrate. It's just that her combination of charm and beauty is so enchanting, she should be showcased on a larger stage than UA-cam. I hope someday she will, if that is her wish.

    This was a beautiful video as always. Tried to tease my hair yesterday to practice the Edwardian look (I want to do it for a party on sunday) but my hair didn't truly stand up (even with hair spray) and it just tangled and I suspect damaged my ultra fine hair...
    Can you please do Elizabeth 1 (1580's portraits preferable), Veronica Franco (the movie Dangerous Beauty is based on her life, she was a Venetian courtesan, poet, and set up a home for poor women) Bianca Capello (adventuress who rose to be the Duchess of Tuscany when she married Francesco d'Medici, she also inspired Thomas Middleton's 1657 play Women Beware Women)

    • @chocolaterockz
      @chocolaterockz 8 років тому

      +Loepsie maybe you could do an interpretation based off of the many representations of her? Like the paintings and tapestries

    • @Noblebird02
      @Noblebird02 8 років тому +2

      +GapYearGrrrrl may I suggest that you choose instead a beauty beacon from Joan of Arc's era:
      Magdalena of Valois/Madeleine of France, Marie of Anjou, Yolande of Aragon, Isabeau of Bavaria, Agnes Sorel.
      Personally I kind of hate the way that later portraits/19th century romantic painters feminised Joan so that she doesn't challenge gender binaries.... Especially painful as she was burnt alive for shaving her head and wearing men's clothing.
      I read an article on this process years ago. Something to think about.

    • @chocolaterockz
      @chocolaterockz 8 років тому

    • @Noblebird02
      @Noblebird02 8 років тому +1

      +GapYearGrrrrl It's been some years since I did that unit on medievel history, so I have long since lost the article. However from the wiki page on Cross-dressing, gender identity and sexuality of Joan of Arc ""Clothing and Gender Definition: Joan of Arc" 26. Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies: 297-314. In hir book, "Transgendor Warriors: Making History From Joan of Arc to Dennis Rodman", transgendored author Leslie Feinberg popularizes notion of Joan of Arc being transgendar. Under the heading They Called Her 'Hommasse'
      , Feinberg cites Evans and Murray on the "enormous importance" of
      Joan's male costume to her identity, and states, "Joan of Arc suffered
      the excruciating pain of being burned alive rather than renounce her
      identity ... What an inspirational role model -- a brilliant transgendor
      peasant teenager leading an army of laborers into battle."Feinberg, Leslie (1996). Transgendor Warriors: Making History From Joan of Arc to Rupaul. Beacon Press. pp. 36, 37.
