The film was in production for nearly 16 years and 2000 camels, 4000 horses and 8000 extras - some of them actual soldiers on loan from the Indian Army - were used in the battle scenes.
K.Asif was so passionate about this film, that shows in each and every frame. From Set to Costume, From Actors to Dialog. Its a classic, and no one ever able to create this magic.
The original movie released in 1960 was in Black & White.. they re-released the movie in Color in 2004. Mughal-e-Azam was the first black-and-white Hindi film to be digitally coloured and the first to be given a theatrical re-release
It was the first movie of any language to be digitally coloured and given a theatrical re-release. And the colour version also became one of the highest grossing films of that year. Also, it was the first movie I watched in theatre as a child.
That is Madhubala arguably the most beautiful actress to have ever graced the screen. That is Dilip Kumar the biggest actor India has seen. He inspired the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and SRK.

Can people stop using Hollywood artists as baseline and compare all other artists to them? It is very demeaning and old-school. Madhubala is unique in her own right, just as Waheeda Rehman, Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi, Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Vidya Balan, Tapsee Pannu. C'mon people, Hollywood step aside - there is no comparison.
Yes, Prithviraj Kapoor was the first big Kapoor in Bollywood. His son Raj Kapoor solidified the Kapoor empire, and continues to this day with Ranbir Kapoor

Rick and Corbin Singh, So glad you are reacting to this trailer. Thank You both. Yes, this is one of the great films of India. In reading about it I think you will find what a tremendous passion this film was for the director. The Emperor is Akhbar, also presented in his youth in the much later movie Jodha Akhbar. He was known for his love of art and culture, as well as his tolerance for other religions, unlike several of his descendant kings. There is a small tower in his palace where, high above the ground, there is a circular platform ringed inside with a plus sign shaped path that goes across it. His advisors sat around him while he paced back and forth between them as they spoke on various philosophies. Since he was illiterate, like most royalty of that time around the world (reading and writing was not considered fit schooling for warriors), he relied on these advisors from several religions, including Christianity. He married a Hindu princess, Jodha, to stop a potential war and ended up falling in love with her. He, as a Muslim king, freaked out a lot of his family and subjects by building a Hindu temple for her within the castle walls. "Disillusioned with orthodox Islam and perhaps hoping to bring about religious unity within his empire, Akbar promulgated Din-i-Ilahi, a syncretic creed derived mainly from Islam and Hinduism as well as some parts of Zoroastrianism and Christianity." Please note: In some Indian cultures the king went to war, but not until his wife, the queen, presented him with his sword, her wishes for his victory, and her prayers and blessings. Please watch this movie, in the original black and white, and give us a review. Thank You.
Finally you guys watched it after 2 months of me recommending it. This movie is is "gone with the wind" level. And yes Sanjay Leela Bhansali was indeed inspired by it. The song in bajirao mastani called "deewani mastani" was almost fully inspired a song in this movie called "jab pyar kiya to darna kia" (you guys reacted to both the songs) Both the leads in this movie are absolute legends with the actor Dilip Kumar being an absolute inspiration for modern greats like Amitabh Bachan.

So you finally came face to face with this legendary movie, including greatest actors from bollywood and our very own Madhubala A.K.A Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood.
Thanks so much finally for reacting to the trailer of this 1960s MASTERPIECE MOVIE. I just want to let you know Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments are still my ALL TIME FAVORITES. even my dada enjoys watching these movies over and over again!!! OLD IS ALWAYS GOLD!! Madhubala is not bengali. She was the beauty queen way before the stupidass Aishwarya Rai. she still is immortal!! Prithviraj kapoor was a great actor and so was his son and grandsons!!!!The prince is Dilip Kumar one more great actor. He has also delivered many great blockbusters!! Please react to trailers of the following handpicked old vintage classic bollywood movies such as: Deewaar 1975 Mother India 1957 Naya Daur 1957 Pakeezah 1972 Kala Patthar 1979 Pyaasa 1957 Awaara 1951 Guide 1965
This is the remastered colour version DVD trailer released few years ago. The original version is of course B/W and yes almost everyone including Bhansali in India had seen it along with Sholay as well.
Yes he's the head of the Kapoor of Kapoor family in hindi films (also Ranbir Kapoor's grandfather) and there was no CGI back then. Over 8,000 soldiers of Indian Army participated for the action scene.
The camera work, direction, editing, storytelling, acting, dialogues (learn Hindi/Urdu) of this movie stands proudly amongst best of cinema.. in India and worldwide.
Mughal-e-Azam is not one of those movies which are golden in the past and cringe in the present. This movie isn't cringe now but still amazing and nostalgic, and it will stay the same 50 years later
Rick will enjoy this: Prithviraj Kapoor was also theatre royalty. His collabs with Shakespeareana, later his son Shashi Kapoor took up that mantle and Shashi's and Jennifer Kendall's daughter built Mumbai's most well known theatre Prithvi Theatre.
The actress in the movie Madhubala is popularly called the Marylin Monroe of India. If you google her you'll find that in many ways her life was quite similar to Monroe. They were both beautiful, they both had a tragic love life, they were immensely popular during their times and they both died at age 36 during the 60's decade. I'm sure there would be more similarities if we looked for it ❤
Here are a few mind-boggling facts about the film which show how much effort, love and care went into making this magnum opus. 1) The film was in production for nearly 16 years (longest in Bollywood ever). 2) Produced at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore (in the 1950s), it left producer Shapoorji Pallonji nearly bankrupt 3) 'Ae Mohabbat Zindabad' had Mohammed Rafi accompanied by 100 real backup singers, for chorus. 4) The Sheesh Mahal took 2 years to build, with glass imported from Belgium. The set built for the iconic song Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya was conceptualised as a replica of the Lahore Fort, by Art director M K Syed. It cost nearly Rs 15 lakhs (or 10% of the budget) to build the set. It took six weeks to only erect the set at Mohan Studios, and after the shooting took place the set wasn't taken apart for 6 months as the public were allowed to pay a visit. 5) Naushad and lyricist Shakun Badayuni wrote 110 drafts of Song 'Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya' , before they were finally happy with a version. 6)Legend has it that Bade Ghulam Ali Khansahab didn't want to sing for films, since they were seen as a lesser form of art. To ensure that the legendary classical singer makes his Bollywood debut by singing the song meant for Tansen, K Asif offered him Rs 25,000 as remuneration. In a time when star singers like Lata Mangeshkar made a reported Rs 300-400 per song, the singer couldn't say no to such an exorbitant fee. 7)The battle scene featured some real soldiers of the Indian Army, to make it look more authentic 8) Director Asif shot and reshot the film obsessively, and the final edit was found from 3 million feet of negative.
Yes you are right Sanjay Leela Bhansali is highly inspired by this movie. He admitted that in a interview with Anupama Chopra where he said he visited the set of Mughal-e-ajam when he was a kid along with his father and was mesmerized by it.
Mughal E Azam is on UA-cam to watch with English subtitles in color and black and white. Other old movies you have to watch is Amar Prem, Anand, Lamhe, and Bobby. You can react to some songs from them since they won't have trailers
Omg this is one of my all time favourite movies. My father had the whole movie on cassettes - for the dialogue. Me and my sister know each line by heart. Because Dad would play it over and over. I remember this movie fondly in black and white and when it was rereleased in colour - omg it was an experience! Sold out everywhere. Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Do watch it. Please please please.
The whole movie was in black and white but when they were shooting the songs, only the song "jab pyar kiya" was shot in colour camera because the technology came just at that time. So it was the first coloured scenes of Indian cinema!!! Hence it became a legendary movie.
You guys should have far more subscribers. You deserve that. Seriously, you guys are underappreciated. Still I feel you will get your due soon as you are honest and dedicated. I love you both. ❤
There was no CGI back then and this movie is the most legendary classical movie of India till date, the acting of all legendary actors in this movie is praised all over the world whoever has seen this movie.
Actors were known to have forgotten their lines each time they saw madhubala's face.. She was one of the most beautiful actresses to have ever graced the screens..her life can even be turned into a movie of its own.. Also little known fact she and dilip Kumar were in love with each other for some time during the shoot of the movie.. And it took years and years for this movie to be shot.. I believe 10 years but I could be wrong in that regard.... Love love love
Pakeezah movie songs plz...it's the most iconic movie in Bollywood Inhi logon ne Chalte chalte Thade rahiyo o banke Yaar re' The best songs of all time and all sung by Lata Mangeshkar!!
This movie is iconic and has inspired everyone in the film industry and not just film makers. In Mumbai, there was even a stage performance of Mughal-E-Azam and I've heard from many people it's one of the most beautiful live performances they've ever attended. The actress, Madhubala, was, is and will always be the most beautiful actress ever. Nobody can match her beauty.
I Don't understand why people say only about ranbir kapoor... Kareena & karishma kapoor r first of this generation of kapoor family...they continued the legacy & kareena is still remain a main steam actor.. They're also prithviraj kapoors grandchildren 😐😐😐
Greatest actors - prithviraj Kapoor and dilip Kumar Most beautiful actress of all time - madhubala One of the best music and songs Dialogues-hands down Top notch direction Masterpiece ❤️
You got it right for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's inspiration. he has mentioned that in his interviews. Just a little detail - this movie became the greatest hit of that time. Madhubala was considered as one of the best actress for her acting and expressions. on opposite side the Hero in this movie - Dilip Kumar is considered as one of the best actor in world cinema, not just Indian. He got guiness book of world record for maximum number of awards. He started so called real emotion portray acting (it is called something I forgot). Every single person in this movie is a legend.
"Raja Harishchandra" is First movie in india which is made by father of indian cinema ' Mr. Dada Saheb Falake' . Their is a marathi movie named 'Harishchandrachi Factory' which has story about 'how that first movie was made'. So watch that movie "'Harishchandrachi Factory'
Yes prithvirajkapoor is the starting of Kapoor's in Bollywood. Mostly all of Kapoor's are his children grandchildren etc...other than one or two like Shahid Kapoor. Also, Sartaj really is Royalty. His name is Saif Ali Khan and his father was a Nawab. After his father passed away now he is Nawab of Pataudi.
@First name Last name I agree with u that beauty is subjective...which is why I said "considered" I consider Nutan beautiful but it's a fact that Madhubala is officially considered the most beautiful Indian actress of all time.
@First name Last name I have not contradicted anything..There is something called media and that media -print, television etc have always called her te most beautiful Indian actress of all time..You have been living under a rock.. It's the same as in the modern age when everyone called the Aishwarya the most beautiful woman and I never agreed...but I will still have to acknowledge that she was considered the most beautiful ! I never found Katrina attractive ,people did !
The movie was in black and white when it was originally released. Colour was restored, I'm sorry I don't know rhe technical term for the process, and the movie was released again recently.
The man who plays prince Salim is Mr . YOUSUF KHAN who chose the stage name as Dilip Kumar. He ws arguably the person who excelled in method acting. Presumeably he ws the inventor of method school of acting in bollywood. He inspired Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Madhu bala's original name ws "Mumtaz Jahan Begum Dehlvi" she is the most beautifull women in the world in her times. Period..... It took K. Asif 16 years of his life. 16 long years of persuing his passion to make this Mgnum Opus.... Yes Mr. Prithvi raj kapoor ws the original Kapoor who started the kapoor clan in bollywood. Dilip kumar's family and Prithviraj kapoor's family ws from Peshawar(undivided India) now in Pakistan. They came to Bombay after partition. Father of Dilip kumar and Prithviraj kapoor were friends. Lots of people donno bout that... Originally Mughal e azam ws a Black n white movie partially coloured. But recently ws digitalised and re released. This is the most absolute classic cinema of bollywood even classical than Sholay. Amitabh Bachchan himself once said that he get inspired even today by watching all the actors in it and the direction the cinematography and the dialogues in the film, he said no one can call himself an actor if he says he didn't watch this film. The shear amount of time it took to make this magnificent piece of art that inspired the generations and will inspire the generations to come... I will recommend both of u guys to go and purchase a DVD and watch this film coz u will get ur Jaws drop to the ground when u see the shots and hear thetdialogue deilvery in the film and the era when India ws ruled by this mughal emperor known as Akbar the great and his only son Salim who later became ttheemporer Jahangir. The film is based upon the true legends. And the story of Anarkali the role played by the gorgeous Madhu bala is some will say the true story. So as the legend goes....
Actors legendary, movie legendary, songs legendary, music directors legendary, singers legendary, directors legendary, everything over here is legendary...

So you finally came face to face with this legendary movie, including greatest actors from bollywood and our very own Madhubala A.K.A Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood.
dilip kumar is the no 1 actor in bollywood till date..
.big b, srk all copy of him..
@sam peres and just like that you won.
Please react to trailers of the following handpicked old vintage classic bollywood movies such as:
Deewaar 1975
Mother India 1957
Naya Daur 1957
Pakeezah 1972
Kala Patthar 1979
Pyaasa 1957
Awaara 1951
Guide 1965
This is the Indian romeo juliet. madhubala is considered as the most beautiful actress in Indian history like marilyn monroe for hollywood.
More than Ten Commandments.. I love Benhur. The Chariot scene OMG.
Yes you know Sartaj is royalty 😂😀
The comparable movie to this is probably Gone With The Wind...
It's a great movie in Indian Cinema have watched thrice and the dialogues and lines of this movie is just wow💛💜
This is the remastered colour version DVD trailer released few years ago. The original version is of course B/W and yes almost everyone including Bhansali in India had seen it along with Sholay as well.
How was the match experience in Florida????
React to songs of the movie'Pakeezah' that was released in 1971
You may start with reacting for the song ' Chalte chalte'
This is in the category of Ten Commandments and Ben Hur in its epic scale..GRAND.
omg thank you for reacting to this movie trailer. It’s my favorite movie♥️🙏🏽
2) Produced at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore (in the 1950s), it left producer Shapoorji Pallonji nearly bankrupt
3) 'Ae Mohabbat Zindabad' had Mohammed Rafi accompanied by 100 real backup singers, for chorus.
7)The battle scene featured some real soldiers of the Indian Army, to make it look more authentic
8) Director Asif shot and reshot the film obsessively, and the final edit was found from 3 million feet of negative.
Your comment really deserves more likes.
Guys react to a 90s song called "Made in India"
Epicness+ beauty +drama= mughal e azam😍😍😍
Madhubala is the marilyn Monroe of india 😍
Yes you are right Sanjay Leela Bhansali is highly inspired by this movie. He admitted that in a interview with Anupama Chopra where he said he visited the set of Mughal-e-ajam when he was a kid along with his father and was mesmerized by it.
Mughal E Azam is on UA-cam to watch with English subtitles in color and black and white. Other old movies you have to watch is Amar Prem, Anand, Lamhe, and Bobby. You can react to some songs from them since they won't have trailers
This is one of the magnum opus of Bollywood......

You guys should watch the original black and white version. It's very cool
Madhubala is a legendary actress. One of my favorite 😍 she was fabulous and extremely beautiful ❤
I’m here to see how Korbin pronounces the title 😭😂😂😂
This film was originally in black and white but was re released colourised with a newly recorded soundtrack a few years back.
Watch “mohe rang do lal” from Bajirao Mastani and “mohe panghat pe” from Mughal-e-Azam side by side. You will know!
You should watch "Mera naam joker" or "Anand" great movies..❤️❤️❤️🔫

The best songs of all time and all sung by Lata Mangeshkar!!
Two of the giants of Indian cinema Mr Pritiviraj Kapoor and Mr Dilip Kumar and the fascinating beauty of Madhubala.
An all time classic
I Don't understand why people say only about ranbir kapoor... Kareena & karishma kapoor r first of this generation of kapoor family...they continued the legacy & kareena is still remain a main steam actor.. They're also prithviraj kapoors grandchildren 😐😐😐
YAD LAGLA SONG..SAIRAT MOVIE...pleeeezzzz 🙏🙏🙏
Manna Dey and Kishor Kumar singing "Ek Chatur Nar" from the movie Padosan.. ❤
I highly recommend you to read the full wikipedia page for this movie. Specially the production part. You will be amazed.
A scene from this movie was used in the movie Mr. Nobody.
Greatest actors - prithviraj Kapoor and dilip Kumar
Most beautiful actress of all time - madhubala
One of the best music and songs
Dialogues-hands down
Top notch direction
Masterpiece ❤️
She is not Bengali...she is considered the most beautiful Indian actress of all time..Madhuri Dixit comes a close second
@First name Last name I agree with u that beauty is subjective...which is why I said "considered"
I consider Nutan beautiful but it's a fact that Madhubala is officially considered the most beautiful Indian actress of all time.
The lead actor, Dilip Kumar was first offered Omar Sharif role in the movie Lawrence of Arabia
There is a video song "ishq mohabbat apna pan" this song has whole story of anarkali in a music video, worth watching
Actors legendary, movie legendary, songs legendary, music directors legendary, singers legendary, directors legendary, everything over here is legendary...
it was re-released and its the trailer of re released movie.. in 1960 it was a black and white movie .. the only movie to have one coloured song in it..
Sanjay Lila said that he can't remake the classic.. so he made same type of story like Bajirau mastani
Great trailer reaction y'all..
