It's about time someone reacted to this masterpiece! Popcorn In Bed met Tom Cruise and is now on a Tom Cruise binge. You should message her and tell her that this movie is a must!
This is the most emotional that I have ever been watching a movie in my life... I first watched this when I was about 12/13 yrs old. I'm 34 now and it still hits me just as hard as ever, especially the ending. Likely the most underrated film of all time. This movie, Click, and The Notebook.. It should be a crime!!!
This movie made me a lifelong superfan of the band Sigur Rós. An early live version of their song "Untitled 4" was played at the end of this movie and I never forgot it.
Has been my favourite film since I seen it on my makeshift TV when me and my mum were homeless back in the late 00s, remember being fascinated even as a kid when watching it back then yet I didn't understand a thing, I then went on to watch it years later remembering what it was, it has been my favourite go to comfort film ever since, the music, the vive just everything about it is incredible.
SAME HERE. I saw Sigur Ros live a few years after seeing this movie and it was like a religious experience. The most beautiful and moving concert I've ever been to.
This is a remake of a Spanish movie 'Abre los ojos' (open your eyes), unusually Penelope Cruz plays the same part in both movies. Some people seem to trash Vanilla Skies, perhaps partly due to it being a remake. Personally I actually preferred this version to the original, though I saw this first so it would likely bias my view.
Original is better IMO. It is more raw and powerful. I live in Spain so in my case I watched the original first. The remake felt like a domesticated copy. Anyway I think the remake is quite good and in some moments it adds his own thing, but as a whole the original feels better and stronger for me.
"How do you write such a thing?" Spanish director wrote and directed OPEN YOUR EYES in 1997. The Spanish film impressed Tom Cruise and director Cameron Crowe, so they bought the rights to make an American version of it: VANILLA SKY. Here is the trailer of Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos). ua-cam.com/video/GQ-aMw2Mlwg/v-deo.html
This is a masterpiece in my book, beautiful ending. The music in this film is great. I first fell in love with Cameron Crowe with Jerry Maguire, which also had some great music and Tom. He just puts music to scenes so beautifully and, when I saw he made Vanilla Sky with Tom, I was there opening day. Great concept. I'm going to enjoy this reaction.
Jerry M is baad I think but this is great, one of the great sci-fi movies and an excellent movie overall, Tom Cruise's 2nd greatest performance (after Magnolia) Almost Famous is pretty good
It's a big budget remake (hence the licensing of famous songs, that of course evoke emotions on their own) of a Spanish film. Cameron Crowe didn't add much. (Edit) BUT I love the final ascent, that CG will hold up forever.
"Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around." Ok, I loved the reaction, so much I'm going to rewatch it again after I type of my thoughts. First off, you will LOVE this movie so much more the 2nd time around and 3rd bc you will just be able to catch little things and details that are just genius man. It's just one of those films that gets better the more you watch it. It's pure genius. The 2nd time you can enjoy it without trying to figure things out and you just see all the beauty in it. The movie is so quotable too, “she never forgot that one night where true love seemed possible.” It's so sad he was so in love with Sophia, the only girl he ever loved after a life of taking advantage of women, Sophia was able to make him change in one night, but his big mistake was getting in that car. The regret of that one mistake. In the end it's so sad bc the woman he loved so much he had to choose to let her go. That music, the acting, it's so emotional. You should watch Jerry Maguire next. Cruise and Crowe work great together. Vanilla Sky beautiful quotes here ua-cam.com/video/cNSBFQ9CigQ/v-deo.html
That opener was a fly-over of Central Park in NYC. He got out of his car, freaked out, because you never see Times Square with nobody there. Brother, you are so respectful of the movies you're reacting to - you don't trample on the script. That's great. RAIN MAN (1988) Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman. COLLATERAL (2004) Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Mark Ruffalo WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning Thanks -
The original film with Penelope Cruz was also hit. More people should react to this film. One of his best. Tom Cruise during the late 90s to early 00s was at his physical and creative peak. His films were critical and commercial successes. It was during this time Cruise was closest to winning an Oscar. His characters were never fully vulnerable or terrifying enough to clinch the win. Needed to take more risks and show more range.
I think he deserved a win for "Born on the Fourth of July" & "Magnolia". Even this film is arguable from an acting standpoint, but it's just not the kind of movie to make the Academy Awards.
Great reaction to this great movie! I've always loved this movie. Such a deep meaning to it, especially from someone who has made some big mistakes in my life. I'll never understand why so many people have hate for this movie, though. I'm glad that is not the case in these comments or by the creator.
I had a very profound reaction to this movie. I had experienced both a breakup and a very strong psychedelic experience a few months prior to seeing Vanilla Sky. The album Kid A by Radiohead, played a significant part in that journey. Seeing this movie even months after such an experience, felt very personal. It remains a movie that I think about often.
This movie is amazing and it's a perfect example of a film that would never win a poll on reaction channels yet its a great film. Voters usually want to go for the action Mission Impossible films, or his other action but Tom Cruise dramatic work is very underrated. Great Tom Cruise films overlooked by reaction channels... *Rain Man, Born on the 4th of July, Cocktail, The Outsiders, Far and Away, Jerry Maguire, Vanilla Sky, Magnolia* *The Last Samurai* is his best film and actually does get some attention. Can't wait to one day see George react to all these Tom Cruise films.
One of my favorites. I waited awhile before watching this. The few ads for it made it seem like just a love story chick flick and it kinda is but in a very different way.
Well done! Not many reactors react to this movie. Don't know why. SPOILER: It's just a theory of mine, but did you notice how most of the lyrics or the titles of the songs give a hint to some of the plot twists? I believe those songs are there for a reason, not just because they are nice. Like the moment David's Lucid Dreams is about to begin (as we learn in the end), when he falls asleep on the sidewalk after the night in the club, the soundtrack plays R.E.M's "Sweetness Follows" - the sweetness of his dream.
Mate, the beeping cellphone melody is the classic "row row row your boat". It's one huge clue that is so easy to miss :) If you go further in the lyrics: "Row row row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily merrily merrily merrily, life is but a dream".
One of my favorite movies of all time. I think it's because it's a beautiful tragedy. A young man makes one wrong decision in the heat of the moment and it effects his entire future and in the end no magical wand can be waved to fix it. He just has to make the best of what he has left. And that's life. I love it.
Really makes you slow down and make your choices wisely, no matter how small you might think it is in the moment... It could change your whole life. Appreciate and savor the ones who you love and listen to your instinct about those who you get a bad vibe from. God bless 🙏
I watched this with my Nan when I was 11 and I never forgot Sigur Ros at the end but could never find the track until I happened to be speaking to someone who I worked with many years later about it and he told me it was Track 4. Such an obscure bit of knowledge but has deep meaning for me and I cry every time.
This movie is amazing. I have seen it several times and there is something New to discover every time. I also always have a tear fall down with that emotional ending. Its my fav movie. Its underrated because People cant handle "mindfck" movies. They are to lazy, for most they would rather watch "Love Island" and other stupid reality shows. When you miss out on something like this that can actually be life changing. "Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around". I have tried to live by that line, or remember it again when I have made mistakes. Tom Cruise actually Said in the 2010s (dont remember exactly when) that this was his favorite movie of all he had done.
Great movie! great soundtrack! I recommend Almost Famous, by this same director, a movie about a music band, very good too and with a soundtrack as good as this movie's.

The remake is not bad, but if you liked it I think you should watch the original. I think it is more powerful. Get used to out of the states/hollywood cinema opens a whole new world of outstanding movies.
They poked fun at this film on Family Guy, where Lois wants to watch a bad movie and should rent Vanilla Sky, while Lois says, "I said a bad movie, not an abortion." Lol!!
I enjoy your movie reactions and I encourage you to make more of them. As for VANILLA SKY, it's OK, but the Spanish original, ABRE LOS OJOS, is much much much better.
I enjoyed your reactions to this movie so much! It reminded me of how I felt when I first saw it many years ago. Both versions of the story are amazing and equally emotional, but this one is more visually beautiful with better music IMO. But if you loved this one, the original is definitely worth a watch.

Thanks for posting a reaction to Vanilla Sky. I have been waiting for someone to react to it
The remake is not bad, but if you liked it I think you should watch the original. I think it is more powerful.
Get used to out of the states/hollywood cinema opens a whole new world of outstanding movies.
the story is cool, but Tom and his acting is what make this movie.
you should watch e.t
They poked fun at this film on Family Guy, where Lois wants to watch a bad movie and should rent Vanilla Sky, while Lois says, "I said a bad movie, not an abortion." Lol!!
I enjoy your movie reactions and I encourage you to make more of them. As for VANILLA SKY, it's OK, but the Spanish original, ABRE LOS OJOS, is much much much better.
This is just a creepy movie….
Sorry George not one my favorite movies…if you want to see a great Tom C movie you need to watch born on 4th of July….

I enjoyed your reactions to this movie so much! It reminded me of how I felt when I first saw it many years ago. Both versions of the story are amazing and equally emotional, but this one is more visually beautiful with better music IMO. But if you loved this one, the original is definitely worth a watch.
For many years...
