Somewhere on Earth - Laos: • Amazing Quest: Stories...
Sometimes the ocean needs to blow off steam. Off the point of Brittany in western France, the sea flexes its muscles with a harsh beauty. Fascinated by this impressive display, one could almost forget the danger. Storms are spellbinding; a wild fantasy for land dwellers; a tragic menace for sailors. The fishermen of the tumultuous of Raz de Sein are both humble and brave in their pursuit of their noble prey. Others, intrepid storm hunters, track the bad weather and huge waves as they push themselves to their limit in their never-ending search for the absolute.
The Raz de Sein is a passage, 6 km wide, between the Pointe du Raz and the island of Sein. For sailors, this is Brittany’s most dangerous spot, an infamous passage. Olivier Mével is an old salt of the point, a hard-headed sailor, an aristocrat of fishing. Olivier is the Captain of the Mundaka. He’s one of the few who dare tackle the waves of the Raz de Sein.
Jean Bulot is known as “Captain Storm.” He commanded a legendary boat, “l’Abeille Flandre”, a tug rescue boat capable of standing up to Brittany’s most extreme conditions to help ships in trouble. Jean is looking back on his life as a sailor and the places marked by his adventures as a rescue worker. A tireless teller of sea yarns, he has a seafarer’s gaze and “salt water” memories.
Sometimes the storms off the western tip of Brittany follow one another for days on end. While everybody else is protecting themselves from the raging weather, a handful of men eager for a rush of adrenaline head out to tackle the waves. In this corner of Finistere, Bruno André is a breed apart, ever in search of the ocean’s peaks and troughs.
Jean-René Keruzoré is a filmmaker, a stormchaser. He always has his eyes peeled in winter, his favorite season. For 10 years he’s been stalking storms, eager to capture images of Nature in its fury.
Thomas Traversa is a great windsurfer, world champion of the waves. With Thomas, windsurfing is more than a sport, it becomes choreography. A fragile dancer, he traces arabesques between sky and sea and plays with an unchained, angry ocean.

Howdy everyone! I’ve got some fun facts about the Bretagne: The name "Brittany" derives from the Britons who, back in the Dark Ages, came south across the English Channel to seek refuge from the Anglo Saxon invaders who were pushing them out of a large part of the island of Great Britain. The Breton language is a Celtic language that is still spoken by a large number of people in Brittany today. traditional Breton speaking areas are in lower Brittany
All the road sign in Brittany are in French and in Breton.
Brittany is famous for its megalithic monuments and mysterious art vestiges, especially those in Carnac. Brittany is the major site for megaliths in Europe and possibly the world, with about 3,000 standing stones through several sites.
Brittany is known for crêpes and cider, as well as delicious seafood! Crêpes (sweet) and galettes (savory) are traditional Breton foods, served in many restaurants and occasionally sold as snacks on the street. That’s it. Now I’m hungry. Enjoy!
Pls subtitle Indonesia
Very interesting.
More dangerous roads please
Mmm potato galette; plus apple cider brandy. Not much chance at the moment. Would love to go to Karnac. Thanks.☺
Very interesting.
I just can't imagine how they're able to build those lighthouses with such waves pounding able to knock & swallow into the sea. The bravery & will of human beings never cease to amaze me

The raw power of the ocean and the fearless individuals who embrace it in Brittany are truly mesmerizing. This documentary captures both the danger and beauty of storms at sea. Thank you for sharing these captivating stories of bravery and passion.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
🤣 Fawlty Towers. Excellent

FD delivers. Postman-esque. Yet again.
Loving it!🌹🌹🇧🇩
very dangerous with such waves
Brave men,, wish them well
marvelous
I I love the story about lighthouses 🖐️
How did they get the building materials on that rock. To build the light house.
They sailed it. But don’t ask me how on earth they managed to hoist the construction material onto the top of the rock. A crane I suppose. WP has a decent length article about La Vieille: “Since the construction of La Vieille followed Ar Men, the team were able to draw on a wealth of experience. Each year on the first of May, workmen would arrive at the island in a small steam-powered boat towing a longboat laden with construction materials, as well as rowboats for landing. Anchorages set up allowed the team to moor the steamboat and longboat.”
Ok your map is wrong at 0:44 because you did not include our historical capital city - Nantes.
If only I could teleport. I will teleport myself out of this hospital and go to my grandma's house.
Great video ! You just forgot on your map at the beginning of the vid a part of the breton country with Nantes, its historical capital and where on the coast (Guerande peninsula) folks still spoke Breton till the beginning of the 20th century 😉
Cameramen is doing fantastic job,
Mesmerizing! How close are there hotel/lodging on this coast?
There’s hardly a town along the coast that doesn’t have one or more hotels/B&Bs. Open Google Maps, zoom in, and look for the pink Google needles.
@@martin3203 Yes! I already booked gor my bday in April. I live at the beach in So Cali and live to visit as many seascapes as possible.
Check Hôtel Sainte Barbe in Le Conquet, in winter you'll be able to expérience such beautiful tempest
I'm sure they could find Sea Bass in many other areas.. rather then going into those type waters
Sea bass need structure.. sure you can find wrecks. But that rocky bottom is sea bass gold. There's a reason they are there doing right?
When I was young and brave. We had a rock island with a lighthouse similar to what your looking at here.. the water wasn't this violent. We did a double anchor.. 1 in front 1 in back.. it was some fishin 🤣
As a Stonemason I wonder where all the construction footage lies .
Who built the lighthouses? It's like they've just always been there.
19th centuries
That's amazing 1995 they still had light creepers and like fisher men sead when the keeper where their they had eyes on then like a life gard you attest radio the cost gard
How to apply for this lighthouse keeper job
I love the sea
