Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is an action adventure beat 'em up fighting video game based on the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games. The game centers on two members of the Shaolin Order, Liu Kang and Kung Lao, as they travel through the realms in an attempt to thwart Shang Tsung's plans to dominate Earthrealm. The player can control these two characters in either single mode or co-op mode as they venture through several environments fighting enemies. Despite being an adventure game the engine incorporates multiple elements from the Mortal Kombat series such as finishing moves and combos that can be upgraded. A versus mode also allows the players to fight against each other. Shaolin Monks features a multi-directional combat system, which gives players the ability to attack any of the enemies that surround them fluidly. The engine allows the player to maintain combo attacks across multiple enemies, and even continue their combos after launching an enemy into the air through a powerful attack or a throw. The main characters also have many of their signature moves from the series. In addition to Liu Kang and Kung Lao, the game features other characters from the Mortal Kombat series. Some are there to aid the main characters, including Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Sub-Zero and Jax while others serve as the game's bosses, including Mileena, Jade, Ermac, Reptile, Baraka, Goro, Scorpion, Kano, Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn. Other additional characters include Sonya Blade, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Smoke (whose missions are to be completed in order to unlock Mortal Kombat 2) and Quan Chi. Tokens can be found throughout the game which unlock some of these characters in versus modes. Scorpion and Sub-Zero are also unlockable playable characters in the game.

Fun fact: Before MK X, This was the only Mortal Kombat game with cursing in it. Wen u use the spear with scorpion, there's a chance he'll say " Get over here bitch" or "Get the fuck over here"

Me and my friend were playing this game and told our girls we are sick and need to stay home . They did find us lying about it and were mad at us but this memory we have of 2 controller co op expierence will never be forgotten after so many years . Such a great concept for a co op MK game .

Honestly, I miss Mortal Kombat like Shoalin Monks, Deception, and Armageddon. An open world beat em up game followed by fighting game segments. They should return to doing this style

Deception was basically a total upgrade over Deadly Alliance, in terms of the gameplay. I never bothered with MK vs DC because the idea just seemed stupid on its face and then it got horrible reviews so I stayed away. Still holding out hope that we get a sequel to Shaolin Monks one day.

I got a 3000 hit Combo with liu kang, 2502 with Kung lao, and 2500 with Scorpion and Sub-zero. I kept juggling the oni over and over again on the pit stage. It's also a great way to upgrade each characters fighting skills and abilities without playing through the game.
They always satisfied the customers who likes 1v1...but they never satisfy us who enjoyed this more than anything

It’s funny how you play both a Sub-Zero and Scorpion and the storyline about them doesn’t make sense. For example, when “Sub-Zero” says “we need to find Scorpion.” When Scorpion is standing RIGHT NEXT TO YOU! 😆
The playable Scorpion and Sub-Zero are basically just "skins". In gameplay you hear their voices and use their abilities, but in cutscenes, they are just model swaps of Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Speaking in their voices.

Best mk still to this day. When you best people you actually got to finish them. Not this hammy knock them out gimmick in the new games. Especially when playing devil characters in aftermath. Why would Shao kahn not kill Raiden or liu Kang. This game was the best and led into deadly alliance perfectly
