Back when the first iPad was released, Jobs asked where the new calculator app designed specifically for the iPad was. Jobs wasn't happy with this as the app doesnt fit in with the iPad. 14 years later, iPadOS 18 made it happen

He claimed that a normal calculator app won’t be better than other alternatives and only when it’s better at something they should add it. Unfortunately it took them years after they released the Pencil so why this wasn’t made available earlier will always remain a mystery.

Aaron let’s be honest, all of these features are iPhone iOS 18 as well. Nothing actually new for the iPad this time, what a joke of the M4 iPads.
I find it nice with the new features on my M4 with IOS18! I didnt really want anything else. Definetly not a more "Macos" like ui. That would just require me to tap more times on the screen to actually do something or open an app that is not on the home screen. Ipad OS is perfect for me as of now.
If Apple had actually brought new power features to their iPads, I might of upgrade my iPad 9 to the new Air. Thanks Apple for saving me money!😀
I agree, ATM it makes very little difference between an old iPad Pro and the 2024 one, as nothing really important is missing on the older one. Even so, each day I see what I can do on my Samsung Tab S8 like it would be a standard laptop, but most iPad Pro which are much more powerful can’t…
For some tasks (drawing) the iPad is better, for most other things it isn’t.. That’s why I still see no point changing to a iPad
So what is it that you think you want with iPadOS? Even if Apple gave you exactly what you wanted, you would still complain. You would find something else to moan and groan about. All of this is just a part of our “unrealistic expectations” culture that finds some false sense of value on complaining about the most useless things in life. Instead of looking for tech to improve your life, you need to adjust your own expectations and work with what you have for the time being.
Maybe the biggest problem is that complainers like you don’t even know what you want. But you sure know how to complain about it! 🙄
@@housepianist to be fair, at the prices Apple charges for their ‘pro’ devices, they should be pushing pro features, not rainbow T-Rex emoji or a calculator app. You can’t even scroll through emails in a supposed live widget without having to open the app - making the ‘live’ widget redundant in the first place.
We need the full safari on the iPad. We also need full windows.

Maybe you mean Desktop mode in Safari, which is the same as on a Mac.
Since Apple hasn't brought that yet, even with the M4 iPad Pro now out, I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe in another 10 years that will come to the iPad.
Talk about a better file management system so its inline with Mac

End of the day ipad still remains as an oversized iPhone despite all the expectations after m4 iPad came out .
It’s is so true, i was so convinced that the OS would catch up with the new M4 hard ware i took the gamble and traded my m2 iPad and m1 MacBook for the m4, how wrong was I! Luckily still have the iMac at home and of they would release the promised update to FCP for iPad it would go a long way in resolving the regret and disappointment i now feel! WTF apple! You bred a thoroughbred racehorse in the M4 iPad but still tied its back legs together with the OS!
@@midlifeadventuretravels It was Apple's last-ditch attempt to shoot its market value and falling sales ever since m3 turned out to be a disappointing upgrade even with the industry's first 3nm design. That's why they rushed the m4 chip and put it into the iPad. I don't want to make you feel bad though but should've at least kept that M1 Mac which is astounding as it's still holding up quite well to this day but trading m2 ipad won't be much of a regret though if you're not financially hurt as that oled display is unmatched by any other tablets .
@@sameersheriff7078 one of the big deciding factors to ditch the MacBook was the Final Cut Pro upgraded iPad app that will support external drive - when it is eventually released! I still have the iMac at home but for a long time wanted to just carry one device outside of the home and particularly for travel, I can certainly do most of my daily work tasks on the iPad - although the biggest hope I had was a files app more like Mac OS and when the FCP for iPad supports editing on external drives my disappointment will ease! My iPad I traded was 11 inch and replaced with the 13 inch, so ditching my MacBook 13 inch and 11 inch iPad has made my back pack lighter for sure so my back is happier!
It really depends on what you use your iPhone and iPad for. Currently I use my iPhone (if I had to guess) 5% percent of the time compared to my iPad. So for me rather than an oversized iPhone, it allows me to do things on my iPad, that would normally be done on the iPhone. For example, I watch a lot of videos on my iPad, reading in Apple News, surfing the web, etc. and I like that calls and texts pop up right on my iPad. If I take the call it automatically pauses the video or stream I am watching. I am curious about what kind of things you were hoping for?
@@LindaCapra you can do all of those things on a base level iPad Air, Apple market the pro to be pro and give it the engine and capacity to be a pro powerhouse and work horse but restrict its capability. The M4 is the most powerful chip and yet doing basic things can be clunky compared to a mac, because apple wants it this way it seems.
Where can I turn on game mode? Is there a switch for it?
Will Photos or Notes get messed up for my devices that remain on last year's versions?
Please check on updates for Stage-manager and external display support as the beta goes on. I’m hoping they add a clamshell mode in one of these beta builds.
Thanks for video update Aaron. Wish they would allow us to change grid spacing, this toy town sized icons are really ridiculous, such a waste of real estate. Looking forward to the fall when we can get the full fat version.
Aaron, quick question: I hold my iPad Pro in Landscape 90% of the time and have my widgets and icons all aligned the way I like them; however, the times I hold the iPad in portrait orientation the widgets and icons get all jumbled up. Does the new iPadOS allow customization for each orientation?

Installed it yesterday. Runs ok. Still some bugs but nothing software breaking

Any chance they updated to allow for larger PIP windows. That is still bugging me. Especially since they let you make it bigger and then it snaps right back to the largest allowable size. Not sure why they dont let you go as big as you want with that.
Is it suitable on my m2 pro?
With the new M4 iPad and the redesigned Magic Keyboard making it more like a Mac I was waiting for iPad os 18 to see if there is anything to make it worth the upgrade. To no surprise there is not so I guess my M2 will do just well

Please compare the RAM or memory management between the 8GB and 16GB of iPad Pro models in a detailed test between iPadOS 17 iPadOS 18 to determine if it is the same as before or if it is now better. In other words, does iPadOS 18 allow more RAM allocation for apps?

I absolutely love your videos. Most UA-camrs don’t let us enjoy new features by being over negative based on their personal opinions and it’s so annoying. You at least focus on biased opinion showing only the features with very welcoming commentary.
I want to tell my experience about trying to update it on 32GB iPad 8th generation that I need to format the device to factory settings and remove all apps even all system apps that apple allow to delete to update and also turn off every iCloud feature because I need to login to update it. And also if I exit settings after do all of that when update it will failed because not enough storage. but after update it its feels great!

Battery’s life is great on my iPad Pro 2018
I have to remove my device at carplay and pair it again. To make it work again. At Car play they move the battery icon down. And some new icon show up. Can you tell what is it the blue icon under clock? Also my waze was open when I asked direction...and insted of open maps just keep use it the waze. Before alway open it the map app. But when I asked to cancel it siri said map app not open lol Also when I asked siri about weather nice weather animation show up what I never see before. Also my battery life same with new 18iOS.

When u use dark mode on the apps it covers all ur apps. U cant select to have some to be apart of the dark mode which sucks

I would like to ask on my iPhone 14 I keep having a WiFi bug where it just randomly disconnects and says either it’s connected and sometimes it does it and fully says not connected and it’s on iOS 17.5.1 and I have reset the entire phone to brand new and I have no idea what to do now with that bug any help will be much appreciated

I’ve had a couple graphical glitches but they’re very minor, my mail icon stays wiggling after I finish moving apps around, the only “big” bug I’ve noticed is randomly the volume buttons stop working until I restart the iPad.

All devices that can be upgraded. I’m using the beta on my iPad 10th gen and it works fine.

People were discussing why the Calculator app is missing, and Apple mentioned that if they create it, they want it to be better. I think the new updates are actually nice and useful.
However, I find the icon color customization strange. Icons with gradients or lots of details tend to look odd. We'll have to see how it turns out.

Surprisingly, game mode works wonders with warzone mobile, automatically turns on when the game is opened, and there’s less heat while playing thus less lag.

Funny how it has one of the most powerful chips there are, and you can’t even share one freaking window on FaceTime or Zoom, but have to share the entire screen on Stage Manager 🙄

Freeform is very laggy on my iPad.. there is a long delay when I’m typing with my Apple Pencil.. I also have some problems with language.. Some are in Swedish and some are in English 😂 I’m Swedish so that’s my selected language 😇
Apple could have make the pro line up equip with mac os and the air line up and the rest with ipad os.
