She's the reason I rewatch Ghost from time to time. I can't imagine it without her.
She's the ONLY one that could've played that role!!!!!!! Love her as a person and actor♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Glad that Patrick Swayze says he wouldn't do the movie without her.
It's hard to believe Oda Mae wasn't written for her. This is the perfect role for her
She was great in Ghost, but I think she deserved more for The Color Purple.
Gui Porto I feel like they knew they owed her so she was awarded the Golden Globe and Oscar. She was good in both but she did deserve more for the Color Purple.
I think that's why she got the Oscar for ghost cause she deserved it for the color purple
Her reaction was priceless...childlike in a very innocent and honest way....
Goldberg admitted in 2011 she was 'hella stoned' during that acceptance speech.
@@fludblud literally? If so good for her she didn't forget Patrick Swayze and even mentioned Demi!
Its a very humble kind of win. Unlike other actresses who have this “You’re Welcome” look.
her popularity had turned and she couldn't get a role. she was drumming business.
Whoopi saved Ghost from being a downer. Her character added the necessary levity the subject matter required. And I am so happy she got the Oscar, because she sure deserved it.
"Molly,..... you in danger girl."
Slikrik1212 had she not have said that in the movie, she probably wouldn’t have won.
One of the only performers with an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy, and Tony. MUCH RESPECT!
AfroAngola Which is very sad when you think about it. I hope more men and women of color join the list. But that means we need more recognition for our talented Black and Latino entertainers. Hollywood needs to wake up!
UltimateBrody luckily Viola Davis, Common, John Legend and oprah are on their way for one more to be an egot winner
The way she ran up on that stage and clutching that Oscar in her hands made me cry! It means so much as a black person/woman for someone to say, you did that! Here’s your reward! Validation that you are in the right occupation and you excelled!
She deserved this so much! To me she made the movie Ghost. It would not be anywhere as good if Whoopi wasn't it. She's so genuinely excited, it's touching, i agree.
What an honor for Whoopi Golgberg. The one they'd didn't want as apart of their cast in the making of the film Ghost (1990) Patrick Swayze insisted on Whoopi Goldberg to play the part or Patrick Swayze did not want to be in the film unless they'd hire Whoopi Goldberg to be in this film. I knew she'd win. She won all our hearts. Unforgettable role.
Winning an Oscar and receving it from Denzel Washington, can't get any better then this
Denzel Washington and Whoopi Goldberg = Two fantastic actors that I love!
She absolutely killed it. The movie would have not in any way been the same without her.
This was one of the greatest Oscar speeches ever. Short, heart felt, genuine, to the point. I love Whoopie.
Sometimes I feel like the Oscars is given to great actors for the wrong movies.
Yeah...she definitely should have won for The Color Purple....it's like they always give an Oscar to the actor if they were nominated for a great role the previous year.
I Agree! I think they give it to them for the most uncanny movie performance they have, as if to say;"Here you, WE owed you one!!
Lorraine Bracco was the true winner of this category, but the academy probably realised that they had screwed whoopi earlier by not giving her the oscar for "the color purple."
She Deserved an Oscar..she more deserved Oscar in The Color Purple
The Color Purple was indeed a great film and Whoopi is so talented she did really amazing in that movie. In my opinion it wouldn't be the same without her in it
I read the book too
both movie and book make me cry every time i read/watch
It recommend people read it first then watch the film
@@Magerquark Film received 11 nominations - won nothing. It was a very controversial decision at the time. She was quite outstanding as Sissy, as was the film. Out of Africa, highly overrated won the Oscar. But at the time Speilberg was not popular.
Can't agree more. That was undoubtedly one of the most moving performances in motion picture history.
One of the best Oscar acceptance speeches. It's so genuine and comes from the heart.
This should've been an standing ovation moment.. SMH on 90's Hollywood.. Whoopi was amazing in every movie she did! I just absolutely love her.. I grew up watching all her movies over and over 💛
Hold up how you gonna diss the 90s like that? The 90s Is the goat, especially with Hollywood with so many classic movies and tv shows which Whoopi so happened to be in a lot of classics of the period, Ghost being one of them. Definitely better than the last decade or two for damn sure.
That's the way you accept an Oscar :)
This has to be one of the briefest, and most gracious, Oscar acceptance speeches.
Indeed. Bless her. She has brought me laughter and tears throughout her wonderful career.
She was so glorious in Ghost. There aren’t any movies quite like it. I’ve been watching it more lately… oh I laughed so hard! But those laughs made the deep emotion of it hit so much more. I’m a grown man and a combat veteran and I’m not ashamed I cry so hard at the end. It really is the most beautiful movie ❤️
My dad loved the movie "Ghost" for one reason: "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers was in it. The song was played at his funeral in May 2021. Even though Dad's gone, I think his spirit is still here.
I just love her enthusiasm… simpler times when you could be excited and the internet wasn’t trolling you for being pompous or disrespectful! This was a great accomplishment and she deserved to be excited!!!
Can we just talk about how goooooooooood Denzel looks here. I mean....gottdamn
And Whoopi is one of the few EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winning actresses out there. A true talent
She definitely deserved the Oscar for “Ghost”, but I think she really deserved the one for The Color Purple. She, along with Danny Glover, Shug Avery, and Oprah deserved Oscars.
I'm sure a million people have already said this, but Whoppi should have gotten a Best Actress Award for "The Color Purple" That's when she showed her true range. From beaten-down farm-wife to knife-weilding, hex-putting-on-heroine. I'll always consider Shug and Celie as two of my personal literary heroines.
her reaction was so adorable.....
Who's here because of Reddit? I can't believe she was stoned when she won, but it's true. She said so herself.
For someone high, and thrust unexpectedly into the centre of attention - literally the cameras and all eyes on her - she proved how pro she is
@@m0rthaus True. Also, whatever she smoked must not have been that strong, because she still managed to sound quite coherent.
She was marvelous in that character, and then Sister Act!!! Loved her!
"in my heart, ladies, is five way tie, but in this envelope is one name"
Awww, how sweet
Yes Anjelica Huston looked not happy Denzel Washington's amazing we all love him
That's how all winners should react! She was truly amazing in ghost!
God I love Whoopi and Denzel both, what an amazing, distinguished, charismatic, intelligent gentleman and what an amazing, charismatic, sharp, exuberant intelligent woman! Some of the best!
This was one of the toughest group of nominees. Good Fellas, Dances with Wolves and Ghosts are all iconic films
no shade but im sitting her trying to figure out how her movie role won over the others. I know im a little young for this but wasnt Ghost like a funny movie?? The other movies seem more dramatic and serious
I think you need to watch 'Ghost' as it was not a comedy in the least...if you are young then there is some excuse, but if you didn't watch any of the movies and still make that comment then you have no excuse. If they give you a ticket for speeding you can't say I didn't know the speed limit...maybe you think Whoopie only does comedy, well if you think that...then watch the color purple.
Whoopi's performance is what soley propelled Ghost into higher levels. None of the other films that year had one great performance that really MADE the movie.
Yes, yes yes. That reaction. That genuine surprise and excitement reaction.
@1:24
God I would just love being hugged by him😂😂
Love the way she bounces to the stage, so happy, grateful, joyful. Her acting has given pleasure to a great many people,
I love her reaction! her face and how she ran up the stairs was priceless. :-)
I remember watching her give this speech 31 years ago, and all these years later I still remember it. What gratitude 🙏🏻
The deep ovation she received during her nomination clip was clearly a premonition she would win....very deserved....unforgettable her role in Ghost.
Angelica Houston shall remain salty and pressed while Whoopi remains winning
Buzzfeed sent me here
This is even funnier knowing she's hopped up on goofballs during this.
Such a deserved winner, her entire performance in this film is brilliant but the scene in the bank and with the nuns just gets me every time.
I adore Whoopi - my favorite comedy actress! Her speech was superb
2021 and i still watching this beautiful and talented woman!!
They were just talking about on the View this week that it's been 30 years since she won this Oscar. Boy, how time flies.
Gotta say she was one of the best supporting actresses in the oscar history.. she played a true supporting role in Ghost...
The realest acceptance speech ever - unmatched to this day.
I’m glad she thanked Swayze, he fought for her to have that role.
Why Angélica looked so mad if she wasn't nominated on that category?,Whoopi did an amazing performance in Ghost.
I think she didn’t know the camera was on her lol. She was probably just bored.
She was rooting for her “Grifters” co-star, Annette Bening, who was nominated in the same category. Her performance was enough to win her the coveted role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Batman Returns 1992. Unfortunately, career-wise, Annette became pregnant with Warren Beatty’s baby after making Bugsy with him in 1991. The runner up and fan favorite, Michelle Pfeiffer, was cast instead.
She said she was high on that good kush to calm herself for this speech just incase she won. Whoopi go hard tho
How can you not smiling watching this? Her reaction is priceless!
"They're waitin for ya, Sam..."
I loved this movie and the ending still makes me cry.
Good speech.. brief, genuine, touching without being overdone.
Lmao this was everything! She said “Oh ShIT!!” 😂😂😂😂 love you Whoop!
" it's so much easier to make people cry than to laugh"- Vivien Leigh. I think that holds true. Whoooi brought a luminous light of comedy to a very melancholy story. We needed that bit of comedy to guide us through. What better way to remind us on the importance of life, then to laugh?
I think the band/orchestra playing the awesome theme song of the movie adds to the wonderful feeling of this clip...such a good movie, cast, song, and performance by Whoopi!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love how truly excited she was wining this. She is a great lady. Brilliant at everything she does.
I cried when she won.... Almost cried watching it again just now! Lol
Looooved her in Ghost! Much much deserved!
best oscar reaction ever !!!
This film means a lot to me. I met someone around the time this film was out. We dated, for a few months. His birthday was approaching, I thought our fist birthday together should be special, mine was a week prior. I rented us a suite at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, a room facing the city. It was a snowy night, we had dinner, and drinks in the Summit Lounge. It was beautiful watching the snow come down as the lounge slowly turned. We went back to our room and watched “Ghost” on pay per view. It was a perfect evening. That was 30 years ago. We’re still together, we finally got married, and I love him more than I did then. I think about this movie because I’m scared about our future. I had cancer a few years ago. He had to tell me. I thought it was going to break his heart. We found out I might be sick again. I’m scared, mostly for him. It’s not fair. Both his parents passed away from cancer. He doesn’t deserve this. He’s given me a good life. I wish I can still “make him smile”. I think it’s going to be another tough time.
I just finished watching Ghost for the 50th time. It came out my senior year of high school, 1990. It never gets old.
When I saw ghost in theatre everyone loved her character the best she's amazing
Anyone who defies odds, puts hard work, sweat and tears into a project and wins, deserves it! Especially Whoopi! I don't know many who could have nailed that role! She was perfect for it Haters...
She is so genuinely sincere lady. And I don't why I love her gesture, posture and voice so much.
Love the background!
Ghost was Fantastic whoopi made that movie
I agree, she wasn't a supporting actress at all really, it was them 3, and I think she stood out over Demi even as a "supporting actress". Demi was actually the supporting actress in that movie. It was all Patrick and Whoopi. I think that's why she won, because she was more the lead actress getting nominated for a supporting role, standing out in the movie much more than the others.
@@eolsunder Honestly, I don´t in *ANY* way see how she deserved an Oscar for that role. We are talking about a price that should be given for an extraordinary acting performance i.e. like when Lupita Nyong'o won in 2014 for her role in "12 years a slave" where her acting performance was just extremely good. Yeah, Whoopie was quite funny in the movie, but an Oscar? In my opinion her Oscar for "Ghost" is just as fucked up as Cuba Gooding Jr.´s Oscar for Jerry Maguire. Giving Whoopie Goldberg an Oscar for her performance in "Ghost" just totally degrades the value of an Oscar.
I've been watching 'Ghost' all week - and Whoopi really did deserve this award!!!!!!! #PowerToThePeople ✊👏👏👏👏👏
Her acting is so dynamic. Best dress ever! So eloquent and precise speech. And she hosted the ocsars few years later!
Okay but Angelica looks soo good, very pretty in that short shot lol
1:20 Angelica Houston throwing some serious shade.
Have you ever seen a picture of Angelica Houston? Or watched a movie with her in it? She is ALWAYS like that.
min 1:07 I love the music of ghost in the background when she´is accepting the award, she had an amazing acting on that movie that i never gonna forget.
She TOTALLY Rocked the role of Oda Mae.......it was SUCH a great film....!
Such a well deserved award... her performance was amazing
Loved her acceptance speech, excited, thanked all and then exited the stage, unlike the dramas we see from few others.
This must be one of the most spontaneous, sincere and less artificious speeches in Oscar history. She is extraordinary.
Her reaction was so genuine!!👏👏😍😍
I like to think of this particular Oscar as the one that Whoopi _should have_ won for The Color Purple. Otherwise, my vote would have been for Lorraine Bracco in Goodfellas.
Angelica Houston is not happy😐
+mona m Ms. Huston has always been a victim of the resting b*tch face.
She really deserved this award she was fantastic in that movie 🥰 amazing woman!!
she was sooooooooooooo perfect in this movie, just perfect
Now that was a stacked catergory
Lorraine Bracco's performance was great in Goodfellas
She was just NOT expecting that, it is so cute !
Wow, all amazing performances
Whoopi and Patrick were just so amazing, everything in that movie. ❤️❤️
All the nominees that year were amazing, but they stood no chance against Whoopi's performance in Ghost. Her performance was simply perfection.
4 million dollars?!? - Oda Mae Brown 😂
Classy Denzel. Acknowledging the 5 women are great in his heart.
She also gave a great performance that year in THE LONG WALK HOME and should have been Oscar nominated for the role as Best Actress.
I love just how excited she is. What a talent, what an all-round performer!
She looked so good here! I miss this night and they need to bring it back.
OMG! That competition was FIERCE!! I never knew that. And beautiful whoopi won! love it.
One of the few speeches I've always remembered.
LOVED GHOST, SO MUCH TALENT BROUGHT INTO ONE ROLE. COMEDIC, DRAMATIC, ACTION. GOOD FOR HER.
I just love Whoopi in ghost she is hilarious..
Once again one of those time when a person who deserves to win actually wins.. I can forgive the color purple snub
Comedic roles so rarely get any Oscar love. Glad this one did.
Was so wonderful to see!

Angelica Huston giving that side eye @01:21 😂😂😂
