Thanks, I really appreciated the disclaimer. As a Digimon fan who hasn’t watched all of the anime, I wouldn’t necessarily assume that this new movie was supposed to be so dark. That said, I hope your little guy is doing better now!
I think kizuna is a movie kids could watch and understand, I haven't watched the 02 movie because the screenings in my country will be on november 30th but I've heard it's dark, but it's not like I wouldn't expect it at this point, Digimon has been delving into horror and mature stuff more than ever before in recent years. Digimon survive is a good example example, or ghost game that despite technically being an anime for kids it still had a lot of dark stuff, like horror for kids maybe. The adventure sequels since tri were made for the adult audience who grew up with that season, they never went full dark but it's not something you wounldn't expect at some point taking that in consideration.
Digimon has become more Is serious and dark over the years, it's pretty much because the older fans are what's keeping it going. The more kid friendly stuff under performed, so the market shifted to the older fans. In Digimon Service, they actually have the humans, and digimon can end up being killed off. I expected new digimon games/shows to also have the potential to be very dark. The reviews from people who see it in Japan before it came out, all said it wasn't a kids movie with very dark themes.
I expected it to be as dark, if not darker than the previous theatrical releases. Overall great movie, but yeah…..super heavy. I feel bad for little Devi-Dude, glad he is back to his happy self.

Like I read the Japanese reviews that they said it was dark, Ghost Game also tipped me off and I just got through Digimon Survive and it was giving me those creepy vibes too. I saw the "abused kid" in the trailers and kinda at that point I just figured? ---just me?...okay.
That’s such a shame that Devi-dude was so upset and must have made you feel really bad Billiam as you wanted to enjoy the movie with him and share your love for Digimon. I only watched your video up to 9 mins to avoid spoilers as I haven’t seen the movie yet (am from UK & we have no confirmed release date at theatres) but hope to as soon as I can which is going to be 2024 at earliest. I have heard the 02 movie is dark, do you think it wasn’t given the correct rating in US? I can’t tell how old Devi-dude is am guessing 8 or 9 but I have a 7 year old nephew who I would love to get into Digimon guess I will try the original dubbed series to start with as at least they are handled more lightly. Hope you can see the rest of 02 The Beginning and enjoy the rest of the movie when it gets a home video or streaming release.
Because the movie was a one night only showing it didn't have an audience rating. DeviDude is 9 and yes he is a bit more sensitive than other kids but like I said if I knew how it was going to be I wouldn't have brought him. Definitely start them off with the anime first.

Am sure even for one night showings in the UK they have to be rated, it would have helped you make an informed choice as well about 02 The Beginning as you might have had an idea how dark the 02 movie got, will be interesting to see what it gets rated based on what people have said. It is tough with kids as what one child is fine with will be upsetting for another. I hope Devi-dude can still enjoy Digimon and is back on future videos smiling along with you. In America you can still put out a movie or TV show without sending it to be rated. It just gets a rating of NR. Which is Not Rated. It's very rare for a movie to do that tho. I started watching Digimon with DeviDude at 4 and I gave him his first vpet when he was almost 5. I definitely recommend starting with Digimon Adventure (season 1). Animation and story wise is good for a younger audience. The commodity is definitely geared towards little kids.
That is very interesting that you got the same pulls two times. I got Kari, Ukkomon, and Hawkmon myself. Also I didn't enjoy this movie. It was fun getting excited for it by watching the selected episodes on the Toei Animation channel before seeing it & being with other Digimon fans in the theater, but the movie wasn't for me. I would say more but I don't want to potentially spoil anything so I'll just stop there.

He's all good now but he did tell me he's going to stick with the shows for now and stay away from the movies
