About a year ago I downloaded this game just to try out a "harmless artist" challenge, which was to see if I could level up everything and sustain myself without even messing with the occult. It worked and even though I didn't understand the painting system very well (fricking staleness) it managed to give me like 30 gold, be sustainable and allow me to get four health, four reason and four passion, with the skills maxed out (unless the occult is used). I never really started a cult and I don't even know most of the lore in this game, all I know is how to be an innocent dreaming artist. I haven't watched your other series as well because I'm not sure I want to spoil myself with the content I've never seen, but at the same time I'll probably never start a cult either so IDK.
@@UncleCarpsGamingCorner Yeah, I guess that's what I did the first time, I saw someone play and stopped before I saw too much and tried it out. My main issue is that for personal reasons I can't start a cult (I don't wanna be the bad guy) but I'm still interested in all that occult lore, so I guess watching people play is the best idea, yes. I'll probably watch your other playthroughs after this one. I was actually even making a mod to enhance the no-cult experience with various other things you can do, but I never completed it. One thing I got interested in was making all those influences matter more in painting, and give unique effects, all because I got a fascination dream once that gave me an Intensity of Radiance that I made last FOREVER through painting because I didn't want to let go of it (I get attached to things). So I thought it would be cool if the player gets these mystical influences and paint them. I also added a "Journal" verb that lets you do what talking to Sulocana does (but less exploity since it wasn't unlimited), but the main purpose of that was to keep track of paintings (because I'm an artist and care about painting). So every time you paint you get a "painting memory" card that decays, but if you journal about it, it adds to a counter in your Journal (another card I added), which allows you to know how many times you painted. And if you let the painting card decay it is as if you didn't care about that experience enough to register it. Most of the mod was about these sentimentalities and preserving influences / creating stuff with them, I guess because it was all the lore I could touch since I wouldn't even open the bequest (because I knew it gave temptation and I wanted to be a good boy). Watching this playthrough is kinda making me wanna go back to working on that mod. Keep it up, I'm enjoying it.
@@UncleCarpsGamingCorner not gonna lie just play the game first. the first blind experience is a marvel. my first game was short confusing and a bit brutal, i died early having only barely established a cult. immediately after that i got a fever and spent the night shivering on the bathroom floor halucinating about cards.
Knock isn't the only way into the Wood. You can get there with Lantern and Moth too. Putting a Health (fatigued) in Dream lets you recover it in 30 seconds instead of 60, which is very helpful when doing physical labor.
I had that happen to me in one of my early runs before I had really figured the game out. Then on later runs I was super confused as he never seemed to retire.
was thinking of buying Fights in Tight Spaces, so I did a quick youtube search and saw you had some playthroughs. Hadnt visited your channel in a while, so I checked out the playlists and literally said "well hot damn!" out loud when I saw this challenge playlist. instant click. absolutely love your CS content
I'm glad to hear it. I'd actually really like to do some more CS as it is one of my favourite games of all time, but I just find coming up with a new idea for it quite challenging. Sure the easy idea would be to play through with every different cult, but the cults don't really differentiate the runs in a meaningful way.
@@UncleCarpsGamingCorner I agree re the various cults playing very similarly. One thing Ive done was a no expedition run, though it plays out very similarly to this one since it's a power ascension with formula fissive, king crucible, and an incandescence. Some fun mini goals could be getting teresa to autograph her books, or recruiting an army of rival exalts, etc. I wish the Exile had a little more variety as well
been a while man, and a few questions. 1 Do you plan on doing a moded cult sim series, if so expect a lot of feedback and mod recomendations from me. 2 Since you tried out sunless sea do you think you might try out sunless skies. 3 Do you plan on giving sunless sea another try. (If you want to get the defiance you needed to get the seven marks, deal six wounds to the foe, and use the temptation with the sent verb, you can upgrade your edge-lore with reckoner corpses in exile)
1. I'm not big on mods, so I have no plans of doing a modded series. 2. I own Sunless Skies and I tried playing it, but something about the UI just bugs me. I feel like I had to be scrolling through the text all the time. I should probably give it another go though and making it into a series might be good enough inspiration. I'm not promising anything at this time, but I'm at least writing Sunless Skies on my list of possible games to make a series of. 3. I have no plans to give Sunless Sea another try. I usually don't have many plans anyways, so not having plans doesn't mean that it couldn't happen someday. 4. I've been playing Exile on my own a bit more and I'm pretty sure I could get a Defiance victory now, if I'd decide to go for it... Maybe I will. And then there's the Pentiment ending as well. Hmm... Maybe I'll play some more Exile on the channel after this challenge run finishes.
The plan should work. The biggest problem is probably going to be failing some expeditions, because I have to rely mostly on hired help and they are not that good.
Well, I have always found that doing rituals alone without any cultists around makes for good meditation, but it doesn't really allow you to ascend. Oh wait, maybe you were talking about if this challenge is possible in the game? It is, for sure. :)
@@UncleCarpsGamingCorner lol yeah I was talking about the challenge itself but thats dope that you are making content on this game. I wanted to as well but hard to explain at lot of what happens in this game
I swear when i was younger i watched (almost) the entirety of a 5 hour video of this game.
Exciting

My advice to your problem would be to just start watching a let's play and if you start to feel too spoiled, just pick up the game for yourself then.

Fun fact: Mr. Alden has a low chance of retiring on his own. Rarely worth waiting, but still

Nice! I tried something like this once. I didn't get far. Hope your plan works better than mine did!

Just get uhh the uhh oh UHM the glover & glover also i like your content tho i have never seen an actual poor lunatic
interesting challenge , i think it's possible too
A friend of mine has actually done it, which is where I got the idea from, so I know it's possible for sure.
i also did this so i could make the joke that im just playing "Simulator"
How did it go?
I know I'm a year late but you can dream thw exhausted health to get it back replenished in 30 seconds instead of 60 to make sustainable work
I like what you are doing here. Can you do this for real?
