I love this series....art ....story .... the pace .... it was just tremendous .....great review ... hope the show is half as good... also there is one thing that would really help with reviews Maybe Just maybe some background music nice and low ...the big pun beat from “its so hard” would have been killer... I saw this before and didnt want it. Now that I've finished reading the first absolute of preacher, I know I need these as well! Garth Ennis is just so good. Currently reading preacher absolute vol 2 and am taking my time. I think preacher is my favorite comic series ever.
Garth Ennis just don't give a bleeping bleep. He really doesn't care much for capes. He delivers on gritty characters that smack the capes around or makes the capes look stupid or psychotic. He put out a DC book in the 90's called Hitman. It is awesome. It ran about 60 issues. Ennis would have Superman, Batman, and other heroes in the book sometimes and just clown them. Funny as heck. Great review of The Boys. I liked the mini series in the Boys universe called Herogasm. Twisted. Keep up the great vids.
I really like how you spaced the books out and did a camera shot of them from below. Looked professional. It’s awesome to see how your skills have progressed. I look forward to the years to come Gem.
One of the most entertaining runs ever. Not for the squeamish it gets downright disturbing at times, but yea I couldn't stop reading either. Such a unique take on superhero comics.

Just got volumes 1 and 2 in today in great condition from IST. You were right about the good packaging but the packing peanuts were hell in bits and pieces.

I'm just going to copy my thoughts from another video. I hated this book. Loved the first 10 I think. I got sick of it at the Russia escapade. The super heroes are what I found interesting. And then when she blamed Jesus that she sucked multiple dicks, I just figured the authors had tricked me. If she had been following the tenets of Christianity, she would have left. Whether it's true or not, she would have walked away. Instead she felates multiple men (despite being a virgin), says she will take responsibility, and blames her failings on God not being real. It was poorly thought out and poorly written. It's a shame. The scene with mother's milk and his daughter, and the scene with the Scottsman reacting to his girlfriend's death were hooks for me. They were beautiful and intriguing. It was also odd that the world's richest super hero was willing to see a psychiatrist for a moment, but not see a neurologist, or get a cat scan. And butcher was a hypocrite. Doing all what he did because his family was destroyed, but willing to have an affair and ruin another family was hard to overlook. Maybe they addressed that at some point, but after yawning my way through Russia, I didn't get a lot farther.

Digging this not so recent read throw back! I got into this game late, fell out of it, then back in and it helps to learn other stories. I’m still trying to catch up on a lot of your old videos.
I really enjoyed the series I thought the entire series was phenomenal. I felt like the series was kind of like like this Generations Watchmen. And I know that's bold but I think that the way Garth handled the series. Treating the heroes more like celebrities because you don't know what celebrities behind closed doors do from that angle that's what I got from the series I thought it was really great and there was a few good ones but a good amount of them they were complete jerks. It just have that group just kind of modern them and just watch him and you know him if necessary just kill them I thought that was a great idea. On top of my head I can't remember the one character's name that was sleeping with the superhero girl and he ended up meeting up with the rest of the team and then we saw the panel where he had a woman's time of the month on his face. Now that had me rolling so bad and the rest of them just made fun of them the entire
Nice spotlight on this series! I've read half of this series and yet to finish it myself but, I have enjoyed what I've read and it is a very crazy entertaining read and I'll be getting to it when I finish my last trade of Preacher. Keep up the great work Gem!

Why aren’t volume 3&5 available anywhere? Are they making these definitive editions more? You would think that after the tv series were such a success there would be more demand for these.
they have been OOP for years...theyre still publishing the soft cover omnibus...i think vol 5 came out today. Not sure if they will revist these editons once the soft covers are all released
Cool video man! I personally think this is Ennis's worst work (along with Crossed) lol. Love his Preacher, Punisher, and few other runs. No doubt the guy can write great stuff, but he sometimes goes a bit nuts and comes up with very "shocking" immature stuff. To me it just felt like a silly horny teenager wrote this series and not a grown ass writer. But alas, this is merely my opinion & do admit that the concept of many heroes actually being assholes and abusing their power is interesting. Just wish it was handled much differently, I'm sure other writers can do a far better job.
I know they are releasing an omnibus of this early next year I'm waiting on it to replace my tpbs but would love these editions that gem has but way of of print now.
Just finished reading all 72 issues today, and what did I think of it, I thought It kinda sucked. it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer made of dynamite, the mistake I made was thinking The Boys would resemble the style of Punisher max, (the first thing I read from Ennis), It turned out Punisher max Is magerly out of character for Ennis, the majority of his books are extremely goofy, juvenile raunchy stories filled with goofy characters. Oh yeah, and the underlying message behind the story is about as handfisted down your throught as it could ever be.
The Boys are great evidence of comics not being for kids.
