Unfortunately this cue has been modified from its version in the film proper - just cue up the police chase scene on any video version (including here on youtube) when this cue begins, as the camera pans up to reveal the police in pursuit. There's an entire eerie synth melody that's missing from the opening seconds of this soundtrack version, plainly audible in the actual film, and its absence is glaring. The CD liner notes go into more detail on this...apparently some or all of the original studio master tapes were lost or destroyed, and most of these pieces were re-recorded/composed from scratch specifically for this album. Unfortunately, some things were lost along the way. There are probably other small things missing from other tracks, but this is the one that stands out. I'd kill for a high res copy of the true original version of this track.
The master tapes were lost, but I believe these are still the original recordings, just from an alternate source, but don’t quote me on that. As it was however, the music stems were all jumbled up and disarranged, so they had to be put back together and this is what we got. A shame, but that’s just how it goes sometimes, at least we didn’t lose the score wholesale, it would have been a crime against music if it wasn’t released whatsoever, it’s one of the best soundtracks ever in my opinion!
That crown vic was struggling up that hill.
Absolute Genius Masterpiece music by Mark Isham The Virtuoso!
I remember this movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. This killer was gruesome as hell.
10/10
Best classic film ever
This was the exact moment in the movie when anything could happen next.
