I got to speak with some of the demo team right afterwards, and that is where they wanted it to fall. They had a buncha dirt berms around to keep the debris in. It got demolished because it was starting to fall apart and become a major safety hazard.

The obvious and typical are two different things. How would you have done the demolition of a 425 foot reinforced concrete chimney stack on a limited foot print site in a live train yard with the building beneath it built like and aircraft carrier in downtown Philadelphia?
Typically, when demolishing things, they want to put it right down into itself, not sideways, since that causes more damage are they not taking down the whole building? just the shaft? that would explain it

I hate watching old Philadelphia disappear. The Vet in South Philly and the Sears Tower in Northeast Philly to name a few. Philly has lost some mega-structures.
