October 2014, sitting in one of the lounges at the Mandalay Bay Hotel Casino Resort in Las Vegas with Liam Reilly celebrating the fact that we had just broken the Guinness World Record for longest concert (372 hours and 10 minutes) with our pals The Black Donnellys when Liam said to me “My song The Beer and The Bible would suit you, you should do it”... needless to say I was blown away that one of the all time greats had given me his blessing to perform a song of his!
Liam began to tell me what the song was all about... the tale of an Irish emigrant leaving his home in search for work and quickly realizing the everyday hardships and frustrations that come with it which ultimately leaves him jobless, homesick and longing for the things that he left behind... the story of many an Irish emigrant!
Like many of Liam Reilly’s songs, the narrative grabbed me and I’ve been singing it ever since.
