Any questions on these grinding tips? What else do you want to see on this topic?
Hands down... Best video on this subject I've ever seen, Denis! It's definitely going to help me with my grinding skills. Thanks for sharing my brother!
P.S. We all love you man! 😉👍🏻🔨🔥🔪
Thanks, Bob! ❤️
You're nearly at 250k subscribers my man, pretty crazy!
I know! So crazy. Thanks for your support, Kris!
It is nice to be able to get caught up on watching your videos. This one is a little beyond where I am right now, but will keep it in mind for the future.
You'll get there soon enough! Thanks for watching, Stephen.
Doing the holes first then taper. That’s gold.
I’m glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching.
YEEEES YOU DID IT!!!! THANK you so much man, you really are a great asset for the community and so viewer interactive. Thanks man really
I'm always looking for video suggestions, so keep em coming! Thanks for watching, Darrell!
Just brilliant. This is speeding up my learning curve and improving my professionalism and productivity!
Thanks for watching, James!
This is a nice setup. I’ve always done mine by hand but this looks more easily repeatable
It’s pretty foolproof. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for all the tips, I always learn something
Thanks for watching, Dan!
Another great one. Good job!
Thanks for taking a look, Steve!
Great tip about drilling first
Thanks for checking it out, Greg!
I'm going to have to save this video for later use this is way over my pay grade LOL. I'm never even heard of distal tapper before
Ha, well now you have! It’s just a fancy term for the blade narrowing as it gets to the tip. 😉. Thanks for watching
good video. I have always put mine in after heat treat. I might give your way a try next knife.
Definitely give it a shot before you do bevels. It is also a great way to know if your bevels are symmetrical before you go into HT because the false edge on each side should be the same. Thanks for watching.
Excellent information! Where was this video before I did my first false edge???
At least you have it now. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you tomorrow!
well described Denis , useful stuff. Ive been doing some of these things by hand and its not fun...highly reccomend doing the mag chuck surface grinder attachment...sanity saver that one.
Yup, smart tools certainly can help your sanity at times! Thanks for watching.
this helped so very much denis your the man appreciate you Mark😀👍👍✌ by the way my wife got me a ben butler apron for xmas love it very well made
I love my apron! I use it all the time. 👍. Thanks for watching, Mark!
When I'm grinding the off-hand direction, I'll slow my sander down a bit and creep up on the line slower. If I need to, I'll even go in with a file for the last few passes to even everything out.
Yup, good advice there. I usually just take it easy on the pressure on my off hand for the first few passes until my brain catches up. 😜. Thanks for watching.
are you ever going to do a pirate cutlass of some kind? your outstanding work with fancier materials would be perfect for that
Maybe some day, I’ve got quite a few builds in the hopper right now. Thanks for watching.
Very informative video! Definitely looking forward to upgrading my setup and building a surface grinder attachment.
You won’t regret building the SG attachment. I use it constantly. Thanks for watching.
Awesome information! Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Drew!
Very informative
Thanks for taking a look, Aaron!
Very helpful! Now I just need to build my surface grinder…
Once you have one you'll wonder why you waited! 😉. Thanks for watching.
Very good info.👍 oh I guess I'm going to order one of those 440 CFM fans that are variable speed that are 6" that I need to reduce to 2 ish inch and I was wondering where you ordered yours? Would be greatly appreciated✌
The links to the fan and cone reducer are in the Forge Tools list in the video description. Thanks for watching.
I have a question how many passes do you do before changing grits going to a different belt I'm afraid of running out of material before I can get the deep scratches out I hope you can understand my question didn't really know exactly how to word the question thanks for your videos
It’s not a strict number of passes. The answer is “until you get the scratches out”. Sometimes it’s just a few passes, other times it takes more. Thanks for watching.
Another great video lots of information as always… whet type of finish are you using on EDC wood scales these days? Why? Thanks in advance
For wood scales, I typically just hand sand to 1000 grit, then buff with white compound. I'll hit it with some wax after that and some mineral oil but that's it. I've tried things like danish oil, tung oil, BLO and other treatments in the past but I just don't like the finish. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting !
Thanks for taking a look!
Just wondering why not taper on the mill? Is the belt grinder simply faster?
Tapering on the mill is extremely time consuming to setup the knife and try to fixture it. Plus it's not that accurate because of chatter. It's much easier and fast to grind it. Thanks for watching.
Would it be possible to do the distal taper using files?
Sure, it possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you're doing bevels with a file I guess you can do the taper as well, but if you're putting in bevels with a grinder, just do the taper with a grinder as well. If you're doing a full-flat grind, just grind more as you get to the tip. Thanks for watching.
Amazing
Thanks for watching!
Ótimo! Obrigado.
Obrigado por assistir!
That actually looks cool on this particular knife. I'm so annoyed when it's done for no reason at all and makes the knife looks worse, like on some kwaikens for example.
Thanks for checking out this video
I'll show you the blower motor I had on the ribbon burner and you'll get a good laugh, and I'll send you pictures of my ribbon burner on a cart LOL
Bouncy house blower?
Dumb question, this is all done BEFORE, heat treat?
It could be either. For carbon knives I generally do 80% of the grinding before. For stainless knives, it’s all after. Thanks for watching.
Sir, please make the rain swords..
Maybe some day.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛
Thanks for watching!
Yaaay first comment!
Thanks for watching, Peter!
The most important part of this video is where your wife tells you that she loves you
Yup, #knifewife us the most important! 😜. Thanks for watching.
i m eatting honey n enjoy the video
Thanks for watching!
Answer: buy surface grinder and horizontal belt grinder.
That is the best answer. 👍. Thanks for watching.
Where are the skills of craftsmanship going . Easier / faster ? Merica and Merican craftsmen ....
Perhaps you like to do everything the hard way and refuse to learn new techniques? Get off your high horse and perhaps you'll learn something. Note, I'm Canadian so dial back your idiocy.
