Playing tough isn't necessarily hitting everything in sight. It's about fighting for every inch of space out there and imposing your will in every battle and area of the game. Whether it's on the forechek, backcheck or puck retrievals. Be dogged in every aspect of the game and make your team difficult to play against.

100 hit game. The team was focused on proving they weren’t going to get pushed around and Boston matched them in that area but Boston is capable of playing hockey and scoring at the same time. Leafs need coaching staff to be faster with adjustments and changes. Keeping goalies in after allowing multiple goals in during a single period is not doing you favours. Give the opponent a new look and allow the goalies to work together to win. I sincerely fail to understand Keefe's repeated willingness to leave an underperforming goalie like Samsonov in net over and over instead of swapping him out to Jones or Woll and giving the team a fresh look.

A bit mystifying to me that it seems everyone is oblivious to the fact that the Leafs have allowed three or more 2nd period goals in each of their last three games, YET they have mostly matched or outscored the opponents in the 1st and 3rd periods combined, except today by just one goal. Great effort. They just need to dominate by making more assertive plays to each other as well. There were a lot of uncontested lanes to the Bruins net where the forwards chose to shoot instead of driving to the net to challenge the goalie with dangles. Swayman has excellent vision so they gotta make him work by working the zone and then seizing those good looks

The main difference I saw was Boston played calm, even with a meh game, they still just played through it and let the goals stack up, Leafs were playing frantic, they looked jumpy and couldn’t handle the puck. Mitch probably had 10+ incomplete passes trying to force plays and turning over the puck, the rest of the team was poor with the puck too, take a breath, calm down, head up, and tape to tape…
It's funny when good players come to the Leafs and there's some sort of permanent buffer where they play half their potential. But when they leave for another team they find instant success 😂

All I keep hearing is that this team missed on the details of the game and careless when it came to penalties. Thats a coaching issue, one of his responsibilities is to keep this team focused. why am I not surprised once again Kiefe is out coached and out classed. Also the same playoff demons are starting to show. If Mariner is unwilling to take a hit to make plays, if I see him turn back once he gains the zone and make a low percentage pass I'm gonna scream. Trying to get too cute in their own zone instead of just getting the puck out

Trying to get too cute in the offensive zone - stop with the 27 pass plays - just put a guy in front of the goalie and shoot the damn puck
Wasting 40-60 seconds on each PP with all those unnecessary back passes at their own blue line

Playing tough isn't necessarily hitting everything in sight. It's about fighting for every inch of space out there and imposing your will in every battle and area of the game. Whether it's on the forechek, backcheck or puck retrievals. Be dogged in every aspect of the game and make your team difficult to play against.

100 hit game. The team was focused on proving they weren’t going to get pushed around and Boston matched them in that area but Boston is capable of playing hockey and scoring at the same time. Focus on getting the puck on net and not hitting players as much.

Way too many bad penalties, and (as I suspected) too many players couldn’t wait to unload the puck. Zero leadership. Zero cohesiveness. Zero system. Zero identity.
Leafs need coaching staff to be faster with adjustments and changes. Keeping goalies in after allowing multiple goals in during a single period is not doing you favours. Give the opponent a new look and allow the goalies to work together to win. I sincerely fail to understand Keefe's repeated willingness to leave an underperforming goalie like Samsonov in net over and over instead of swapping him out to Jones or Woll and giving the team a fresh look.

A bit mystifying to me that it seems everyone is oblivious to the fact that the Leafs have allowed three or more 2nd period goals in each of their last three games, YET they have mostly matched or outscored the opponents in the 1st and 3rd periods combined, except today by just one goal. Going back further they've allowed the same in the first period.
They are losing games in single periods. Badly.
I figured that by the way they've been playing the past two weeks that it would be a blowout and they would lose this first game badly. It's either a wake up call, or not. Next game will be a battle, likely 4-3 in OT for Toronto and they win the series. Today was either a wake up call or not.

Great effort. They just need to dominate by making more assertive plays to each other as well. There were a lot of uncontested lanes to the Bruins net where the forwards chose to shoot instead of driving to the net to challenge the goalie with dangles. Swayman has excellent vision so they gotta make him work by working the zone and then seizing those good looks

This is the problem with Toronto, they focus on a guy scoring 70 goals all year and by the time they get to playoffs they're focused on that same guy scoring 70 goals while the other team is focused on the team winning a Stanley Cup. The Leafs will probably get swept in this series.

The main difference I saw was Boston played calm, even with a meh game, they still just played through it and let the goals stack up, Leafs were playing frantic, they looked jumpy and couldn’t handle the puck. Mitch probably had 10+ incomplete passes trying to force plays and turning over the puck, the rest of the team was poor with the puck too, take a breath, calm down, head up, and tape to tape…
It's funny when good players come to the Leafs and there's some sort of permanent buffer where they play half their potential. But when they leave for another team they find instant success 😂

All I keep hearing is that this team missed on the details of the game and careless when it came to penalties. Thats a coaching issue, one of his responsibilities is to keep this team focused. why am I not surprised once again Kiefe is out coached and out classed. Also the same playoff demons are starting to show. If Mariner is unwilling to take a hit to make plays, if I see him turn back once he gains the zone and make a low percentage pass I'm gonna scream. This team did some good things. When this team skates Boston had trouble with the leafs speed. But all that is for not if they're unwilling to go to the dirty areas of the ice. Throwing the puck at the net from the side wall should not be a strategy. That's perimeter hockey, a losing strategy. that's what the experts mean when talking about team toughness in playoff hockey. Doing the very thing that's teams aren't prepared for. Its just to bad Kiefe can't get these guys to buy in.
