- Join me on my first portrait shoot with the Fujifilm X100V. We experiment with the latest Fuji Film Simulation Classic Neg. as well as some of my old favorites. We also test out the Portra 400 Film Recipe. Curious about Film Recipes? I recommend you take a look at Fujixweekly.com for an in-depth description of what they are and how you can apply them to your Fuji X camera. Thanks for watching!

I am surprised, what can make X100V. Very beautiful simulations. Super video
I just purchase the X100V as well, and I wanna Start doing studio photography Like You in the video, but what is the Best settings For taking sharp photos, and what type of studio items do I need to purchase.
Good for you that's exciting! It's a great camera! For studio shoots I like to start at F/8 for a wider depth or field, make sure my whole subject is in focus. Then if I'm shooting hand held I like to keep my shutter speed at 1/200 or faster, to prevent camera shake. Just doing this two things should improve your chances of getting sharper images. You don't have use strobes right away, good window light is really all you need. If you can find a studio space with large windows you're set! Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@MikeFilancPhotography I should start with Aperture F8.0
I don’t see 1/200 on the Shuttle speed Button, only 1/25
@@MikeFilancPhotography Thanks for the help by the way.
@@dupree7575 that's right 1/200 is not marked on the shutter dial but 1/250 is! It's helpful I've found to set the shutter speed manually when I shoot portraits because left in auto the camera will choose slower shutter speeds than I can reliable hand hold. Keep in mind that lighting conditions ultimately will decide your settings which is why I recommend choosing you aperture and shutter speed manually but letting the camera auto select your ISO , when shooting natural light. I find That a blurry image from camera shake ruins a portrait for more times than grain from higher ISO's does. Plus the X100v handles high ISO's really well!
too distorted
Question: Is this camera ever having a black out while shooting in the studio?
It is so great clip!! I am so glad to know the differences of each film simulations. I love the Classic Negative film simulation which makes face brighter. And could you let me know the differences the Acros Red and Yellow? (I followed your ins. and hers. haha)
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found it helpful! Yes Classic Neg. is a favorite for me too! It's brighter whites and punchy contrast make for unique, nostalgic portraits. The Acros R, G, Y filters and intended to introduce more contrast to you B&W by boosting the color of the filter you've selected. In my case I went with Red because it's a dominate color in most skin tones. You need to be careful with the Red filter though because you can easily end up with an overexposed face. The Green filter boosts the greens while the Yellow boots the yellows. Fujifilm suggest the Yellow filter as a good starting point if you don't know which filter to use as it's the most neutral. Hope this helps!
@@MikeFilancPhotography Thanks for your reply. I used to take photos with Acros Red from some suggestions. Have a good Holiday season. Merry Christmas!!
@@sajin_nori2303 you’re very welcome! Merry Christmas to you!
Very helpful comparison ! Is this video filmed with canon rf 35 1.8 ?
Thank you! Actually we shot this video with my Canon EOS R and the RF 24-105mm F 4. If you watch my video on the RF 50mm, that video was shot using mainly the RF 35mm F 1.8. 🙂
Bonjour from France... Wishing you well.. .for the xt3 ..... If i may ask, which fujifilm simulation would you recommend for portrait (people, skin tone ) photos in color.... merci .. Peace from France
Bojour! Thank you for checking out my video! For portraits in color I find myself using Velvia and Provia the most. Velvia for when I want really saturated color images and Provia when I want less color saturation. It's a good idea to preview both simulation with your subject before shooting as peoples skin tones render differently.
@@MikeFilancPhotography thank for your time to respond... Any other setting do you recommend with the above simulations.. Highlight , shadows , clr, sharpness , noise reduction ,... Merci... Thanks
I don't change any setting when I'm using Velvia or Provia simulations. I prefer to make changes during the edit with standard Fujifilm simulations. I do recommend you check out the fujixweekly.com website, it's full of great custom recipes with all the setting information you need.
settings normal 0 0 0 0 wb auto?
Yep that’s right!
@@MikeFilancPhotography ok thanks
Distorted and cropping middle of feet, couldn't concentrate on anything you said about the film simulations.
Are you using the alien bees slave unites to a godox light?
Yes! Exactly right, you figured it out. As I remember the trigger that the studio provided wasn't working with my camera.
The acros + r setting was really great. The others were hit or miss; the angles weren't always complementary. But pretty cool none the less.
Mike, I just happened on your UA-cam channel and from one Fujifilm shooter to another, great job. Fuji-X Weekly's Portra 400 recipe is one of my favourites from his site. He has an app for iOS with over 100 film recipes. You should check it out if you're an iPhone user. I'm awaiting the Android version. As for black and white for portrait sessions, of all the work you'll ever do it's the only one format that will be timeless. There are some other recipes for Ilford HP5 and Kodak Tri-X 400 worth looking at as well. I use a few of them on my IG feeds, @streetphonicz, streetphonicz.film and streetportraitpopup. Feel free to check me out. You have a new UA-cam subcriber. Looking forward to future videos.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed! Yes Fujixweekly's film recipes are so much fun! I haven't tried the app, how is it?
@@MikeFilancPhotography indeed they are. I can't speak to the app, I'm an Android user and hasn't released that version yet but promises it's on its way.
The Portra 400, Kodachrome (II & 64), Ektachrome, and AGFA Optima 200 are spot on as well as all the black and white recipes he's made.
I've shot professional gigs with them and other photographers thought it was film. I simply said it is film, FUJIFILM. LOL
@@d.idowuolutosin4250 that's awesome! I'd like to do some comparisons in the future on this channel comparing the film sims to actual 35mm film. Think its would be fun!
@@MikeFilancPhotography looking forward to seeing your future reviews.
Nice video! But i think highlight rolloff looks way better with DR200 or 400, even though you have to shoot at least iso 320. You may wanna try that out, if you havent already;)
Hey thats interesting! Thanks for watching!
Mate, Acros is amazing. Thanks.
lmao i am the 1k view
Beautiful black and white portrait
Thank you! I’d like to do a whole shoot in B&W in a future episode!
