This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I have never before been to see a play that brought me to tears as this did, and to this day I cannot explain what was happening in my soul. The quality of the acting, direction, sets, special effects, choreography, support, costumes....what have I forgotten?...all of it was utterly absorbing from start to finish. I was one of the first on my feet at the end and I continue to feel the aftershocks of this play months later as I write. I feel privileged to have been a part of what has been a great moment in theatre. Thank you to cast and crew for making it happen.

Agreed, I also saw this production and it was an absolutely incredible experience. It's set the standards for all other plays in my eyes, it really was a work of art, I don't know if I'll ever see a play that makes such an impression on me ever again!

So it's roughly a year since this was on at the Barbican. I so, so, so wish I could see it again. It is still one of the most profoundly amazing experiences I have ever had in theatre.

Saw this yesterday in Stratford. Definitely the best play I have ever seen. Superb acting, especially from Sandy Grierson who on the night played Mephistophilis

I am an American who spent a semester in England and traveled Europe a bit, and next to seeing where my Grandfather came ashore on Omaha Beach, this was the most astonishing, wracking, world-swelling experience I had--and I experienced a LOT in six month's time. A really amazing vision, amazingly executed.

I had the good fortune to see both variations, and thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Sandy Grierson was a more guileful Mephistopheles, and Oliver Ryan was more silkily seductive. Oliver Ryan was a driven, passionate Faustus and Sandy Grierson a perhaps more thoughtfully academic one.
Both of the two leads were fantastic. I have to say that I enjoyed the Ryan-Faustus performance more, but this may have been because the rest of the cast also seemed to have upped their game.
Orlando Gough's music was wonderful - the hairs on the back of my arms were prickling during the summoning scene and the violent entrance of the "armed men" and the fight with the friars. Both variations were those performances which you wish you could experience over and over.
And I *adore* the homoerotic tension in this trailer.

That's what I call acting! I can well believe the unforgettable impact on stage.

Saw this at Stratford in the spring. Absolutely incredible. Disturbing, fresh, beautifully staged and so memorable. I can still hear Orlando Gough's chilling music from the summoning scene.
The actors played the second way around from the trailer, and Mephistopheles (Sandy Grierson) was just perfect.
If you're considering giving it a go, do it.

Wouldn't be a 16th century tale without satanic blood sacrifices.
