Those are beautiful. I've done fold-forming and loved the results, and this technique produces an even more interesting look. Thanks very much for the time and trouble you invested in making this video.
Just a little comment on annealing and quenching. If you quench right after annealing you will harden your material. If you let it air cool for a few minutes before continuing it will be much softer and easier to work with. If you want it to cool faster than air cooling, you can put it between two pieces of cooler metal. It really doesn't take that long to cool to workable temperature.
your teaching is so appreciated, you share your processing in a way that really provides insight into the how and why you do what you do, which for me really helps cement my understanding. thanks!
Message for Susan Mackenzie: Thanks for the comment. For some reason, UA-cam won't post my reply on your comment, so I'm hoping you might see this. I use a hand-held micro torch, which is a perfect starter torch. Mine is a Soldertech one from Cookson Gold, but if you search for 'butane gas micro torch' you should be able to find something similar.
Thank you Kathy! Yes this is a nice easy way into chasing, without having to figure out where to get and how to use pitch. Just grab your hammer and some sheet and have a go!
Have you ever experimented using a hand held automotive air hammer? At first you may gasp. But I use one often to forge small details in steel. The tools that come with the hammer are easily modified.
Wonderful fold forming tutorial. Making the earrings is much less daunting than a larger piece! I will share on my blog (beadinggem) so others can come learn!
Thank you! I look forward to seeing it! This technique is a really fun one, and great if you need to take out the frustrations of the day on a bit of metal!
Beautiful work - thank you for sharing! I can' wait to try this :) What blade do you use to cut 26G sheet if it's already become thicker in places (due to the chasing)? 0, 1?
I have subscribed. Awesome! You are so gifted and talented. Trying to get started in this craft and hope to become at least half as good as you are. Thank you for sharing.
Hi, these are lovely. I've been playing about with copper recently but wondering what kind of torch I should use to anneal them. Would you mind telling me which torch you are using? Thank you.
I have been using Protectaclear by Everbrite for quite a while, and it seems to hold up well. I believe it is possible to get in spray form, but it isn't available in the UK. I really must look into all the possible options at some point, though.
These are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your talent! I'm in the US, so I have to look up the gauge for the 0.6mm copper sheet. Can't wait to make some :)
Thank you! I got this vice from JewelleryMaker (I used to work with them) but I don't think they've had any in stock in a long time. Try checking out your preferred selling site, and searching for 'mini vice' The jaws on mine are 50mm wide, but it might be worth looking at options for wider ones to give you the flexibility to use wider sheet.
Brilliant!! The finished piece is one of the best I have researched into so far))) Simple and elegant! Do you think one could do that to silver, and if so - what gauge?
Thanks for the video, as always! Do you work-harden the sides between every round of forging in the vice? I managed to collapse mine in the second round after the anneal.
You're welcome! I haven't work hardened the sides, but it might be worth a try. It is very soft and 'collapsable' after annealling, so I've just tried to be careful over where I start hammering again. If you find it has gone badly out of shape, you can anneal it, then open it up a bit and fold it back into a rounded shape again.
I have a tools page on my website that explains the tools I use and lists affiliate links where you can buy: www.lily-tree.co.uk/tools If there's anything missing that you want more info on, just let me know! 🙂

This is such a FUN, delightful project with a design technique I’ve never seen before. So awesome! Thank you!!!
I'm new to jewelery making. Your videos have been so helpful and educational! Thank you for sharing your knowledge freely!
Thank you so much. Your teaching techniques are as wonderful as your art. Thank you for sharing.

Excellent video, thank you so much. I didn't understand what "air chasing" was, and now I do. The earrings you made are really gorgeous!!
Thank you! I love that you're never quite sure what effect you'll get when you start, so there's always a bit of a surprise element to it!
Love the creativity!
Now those are cool! - you should model them at the end
Lovely earrings. Can you tell me about the polishing wheel you used to shine the copper?
Appreciate seeing all the techniques involved. Impressive!
Thank you!
love this tutorial. I thought chasing would be so hard. I can see with a bit of practice I could do it! thank you so much

It won't be out for a while as I write ahead just so you know!
Have you made these using sterling? There beautiful! I can't ship them out fast enough! I only use copper when I'm teaching
jan cat do u have an Etsy shop or website??
They're so pretty! It was great to see the process xx
Thank you!
These are stunning, and your skills are enviable! I lost count, though, on how many times in this process where I would no doubt hurt myself!
Thank you! Well, no one said making jewellery was without an element of danger! 😆 n.b. Safety first, people!
Hi Lily-Tree - could you tell me what make your vice is please - it looks perfect for what i'm looking for. Many thanks
How fun! These are gorgeous and I can't wait to try them.
Thank you!
excellent work stylish and no solder love them.
Thank you Maria!
Thank you?

Thank you so much! Your tutorials are great and helpful :)! Greeting from Russia

Hi, these are lovely. I've been playing about with copper recently but wondering what kind of torch I should use to anneal them. Would you mind telling me which torch you are using? Thank you.
Love the earrings and process. Thanks
Thank you!
Magnífico trabajo, inspirador, la felicito por su arte!!! Saludos desde Venezuela
Gracias Pilar!
Love your video! Do you use a finishing spray to protect the copper from tarnishing? If so, what product do you recommend?
I have been using Protectaclear by Everbrite for quite a while, and it seems to hold up well. I believe it is possible to get in spray form, but it isn't available in the UK. I really must look into all the possible options at some point, though.
beautiful

Thanks! I think it is 22 or 23 gauge. I have some conflicting information about metal sheet conversions, so I admit I'm a bit confused about them!
Hi Lily The Great, What kind if little drill was used to make the hole?
Great video! Can't wait to try this technique. Can you tell me where to get the small vice in the video, please?
Thank you! I got this vice from JewelleryMaker (I used to work with them) but I don't think they've had any in stock in a long time. those are beautiful
Thank you Sharona!
What blow torch are you using? Can you send me a link to where I can buy this one. It is greatly appreciated.
What a lovely tutorial! Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge. :)
Thank you and you are welcome! 😃
Love her tutorials!
What torch are you using?
love it! thank you xxx
Love mine, tks so much.
Love it!
Very Nice!
How long did it take?
Brilliant!!
The finished piece is one of the best I have researched into so far)))
Simple and elegant!
Do you think one could do that to silver, and if so - what gauge?
I don't see why you couldn't do this with silver. I haven't used silver sheet very much, but I should imagine a similar gauge would work.
Thank you very much indeed!!

Very nice indeed!
Thank you!
Gorgeous! Thanks
Thank you, and you're welcome!
Very nice
Holly molly that is awesome nice job on your video. i love how calmly and gently you made them> awesome!~ thanks
Thank you! I think most of the 'venting my frustration' hammering was off-camera!
Why did you not use scissors for cutting them?
nice teaching
Love these.
Thank you!
Muito lindo parabéns!
lovely :)
Thank you for this tutorial. You explain everything thoroughly and I feel I can try it!
lovely!! thank you!
Thank you and you're welcome!

Bellissimo tutorial grazie per la condivisione 😘
Grazie mille!

Nice! Do you sell these? How much are they? Do you have a shop?
Thank you! I'm just sorting out to start selling again, so watch this space!
Lily-Tree Will do! how much would these earrings cost?
So... when does the "air chasing" begin or is that just UK click bait?
Bravissima
They look silver plated😳
