It's pretty hilarious that they keep touting the "instant refresh LCD" like it's exciting technology. I'd still like to see their other products upgrade to a more responsive electronic paper, but I guess going back in time a few decades works too!
I am so excited for this device. It is something special. It has some kind of mythology to it. It is like it is part of my soul. I can't wait to start exploring what unknown novel stories it will enable.
I have a freewrite (the big one, lemon one) and I love the device. I'm also waiting for Alpha and I'm kinda angry that I purchased it when the page advertised it with an English international Keyboard. I speak spanish and obviously I need the ñ (that's why the dash above the n is there in the alpha). I still loved that the product is like an alpha smart. I used one of those devices when I was living in the states and wanted to purchase a used one but, in the end, got discouraged as there was no certainty to get one that would actually work. I love that the Alpha keys are almost silent. this is the one feature that I hate most about my freewrite. I really don't like that it's noisy as hell. All the rest I love. So it is a pleasant surprise that it is quiet :) As of now, I am waiting for my shipment to arrive. I hope the folks at freewrite fulfill the international english keyboard as it is so weird not having an ñ (for me anyways). Many thanks for your review! great video. Let us know how you manage with the small screen. I am very used to typing on a wider screen.
They talked about language support during their q&a, it sounded like they had some technical reasons they had to be left out at launch but that they were working on improving it!
I think the screen of the Freewrite Alpha is too small. I would have foregone the wrist resting place to move the keyboard down and give the screen more room so you could actually see what you are typing. It just looks like a cheaper looking Alphasmart. I wish they still made the Alphasmarts because they were the BEST. Grew up using Alphasmarts in the special ed and I miss them.
I’ll be honest. I have used the Typewriter and Traveler much more because of the screen. I’m sight challenged so those are better tools for me. I have the Alphasmarts and I use the freewrites more. I think it’s the mechanical keyboards.
Looking for your Part 2 video on this device. I got mine last week. My only issue is the screen is a bit small and lacks sharp contrast. Not to the point that it can't be used, but after all the years since the NEO came out, you would think that it would be better, or at least as good.
Hi - looks interestind...though i am no buying anything else from astohuas!! my treveler (about 18 months old) has already developed the 'keyboard issue' - it repeatadley prints a minus sign or or an equals sign randomly. So annoying. I have taken very good care with the device and like others who spent a lot of money now have a platic brick then is out of warrenty!. cheers

Yikes! I have not had issues with any of my astrohaus products…yet. Sounds like something is stuck under the key.

I got mine the other day. I honestly find the keyboard a bit unpleasantly mushy.
They are out of their mind with this price. 450 dollar for what? It is not e-ink, this type of display is the most cheapest one.
It’s $349 now I think. You may still say they’re out of their minds but it’s $349😂
