Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from It Takes What It Takes by Trevor Moawad. Hope you enjoy!
Trevor Moawad is a mental conditioning coach to elite performers. He is well known for being the mental coach to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and has worked closely with prestigious NCAA football programs and coaches, the US Special Operations community, Major League Baseball, and the NBA. This book is, as per the sub-title, all about “How to Think Neutrally and Gain Control of Your Life.” I loved it and, if you’re also equally fired up by the mental toughness in sports and life genre, I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. Big Ideas we explore include neutral thinking (much better than positive or negative), goats and G.O.A.T.s, the law of substitution (focus!), the illusion of choice (if you’re REALLY ALL IN, there is no choice), and drawing a line in the dirt (and getting to it… again and again and again!).

I'm late to this party, but could relate to the chicken story!
My son moved to a house with acreage and purchased hatchlings ASAP. As they reached maturity, there was poop all over the back deck. I lost a pair of shoes to their bathroom habit.😯
Like you, he accepted it as part of the package. He has since set up a nice habitat for them. Thank goodness, as he's now added goats to the backyard.☺️
I'm new to your channel and appreciate your excellent recaps of dozens of great books.

Brian!! Great Big Ideas of a powerful book! Completely energized by the GOAT / G.O.A.T. exemplification!!. Thought of the shot hit by OG Anunoby last night to win game for Raptors. His post game comment: "I don't shoot to miss". He even displayed neutral thinking after he hit the shot. PNTV for the W.I.N.!!
Love it!!!!
Thank you so much. This video is extremely timely and helpful. Please continue to put more awesome videos.

Awesome note, thank you. Love the phrase of "it takes, what it takes" and the story of the line in the sand is just insane.
It was the Stockdale paradox in this morning's Daily Stoic - now has "neutral thinking" scrawled next to it. Too much optimism as damaging as too little. Is your goal possible, no matter how improbable? Then do it what it takes. If not ... then find a new goal you can sincerely commit to ( like turning up to the press conference after that play and doing so with grace and humility ).
That father child Optimising thing made me laugh and wince. Last night, my daughter and i were playing a game of Sussed - you get a situation and you have to guess what the other person would answer. The card was "I would find it most aggravating to be ..." and the options were either hungry, bored or tired. She reeled through them - "hungry - no, you'd enjoy the challenge and training that ... bored, you'd think oh i could use it as a chance to meditate or make a list, tired - definitely tired, because then you wouldnt be able to do the things you want to well". She was spot on. Fair to say that she did not consider the answers in any way aspirational as just dad being odd. Exemplar / caricature ... its a thin line .. sigh ;-)
!!! :)
Hey Bri, This is what stuck out for me. Can you focus on the thing that is the most important right now. Set a goal that is in arms reach. Then get to it and draw your next line. repeat.
I expect focusing on what is most important right now will also reduce the anxiety of the pile-up that happens of all the stuff that needs to get done. Knowing you have ultra-focused on the most important thing would give a sense of peace and accomplishment. I love the draw the line, get to it, and then draw another mile marker,
It's like being on a trail and the marker tells you how far you've gone you don't get partway in and turn around. You keep going. You know where you are headed, you committed. You don't second guess the decision to do the trial, you just move forward.

Neutral thinking = no judgement?
Basically, yep! -Zak | Team Optimize
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Period. !!!
Critical Thinking is dead, but then so is Mr. Moawad and his neutral thinking. Not being critical just thinking.
