I'd really like to see someone make an animation based around this comic in particular - I feel like Climate of Fear and Eternal vows seemed more action-based than was necessary, but this keeps the bleak tone of the film whilst still being enjoyable. Also, the Pybus, Pilot and Erskine Things are just pretty cool, and I'd really like to see their transformations in more detail.
Climate of fear kept more of that paranoia among eachother type of thing. This comic was just.. oh 'more things, time to initiate another action sequence!'
150 lbs of fuel left? Well Aviation gas is about 6 lbs/gallon, that's about 25 gallons. Japanese helicopter probably reads it in liters, so that's about 94-95 liters of AVGas left. Hughes 500s consume between 80 and 90 liters of fuel to the hour given Density Altitude and other performance factors. Assuming worst case scenario, you've still got an hour of fuel left, MacCready.
Hey, I just had an idea! What if The Thing's biochemistry created a substance that allowed it to be frozen without cell destruction caused by expanding ice crystals. This same substance will then cause it to become very combustible, as noted at 17:30 SPOILER 23:27 How does McCready survive decompression let alone drowning in freezing water? The Pic of Ice Thanks! I have a theory that the infection process is unstable, and stress factors force uncontrollable mutations. Ideal conditions = No problem hiding in something.
It was most likely due to recognising a helicopter. The last time it saw one, it was being chased and shot at, so it most likely thought that the same would happen again. Though it takes the memories or appearances of its victims, it is still a creature that may not fully understand what a helicopter is and clearly just sees it as a threat based on its previous experience.
I really like what you've done with the thing from another world Series kind of hoping to see Eternal valves done as well, and see what other Dark Horse stories you might be able to do preferably aliens Terminator and predator. thanks again I'm definitely subscribe now and happy holidays!
A few people noting that the Thing outed itself when the helicopter came. Perhaps this is the reason: It was most likely due to recognising a helicopter. The last time it saw one, it was being chased and shot at, so it most likely thought that the same would happen again. Though it takes the memories or appearances of its victims, it is still a creature that may not fully understand what a helicopter is and clearly just sees it as a threat based on its previous experience. Additionally, though it may sound strange, there may be a fear of heights or flying objects. Not only was it originally apparently trapped inside a spaceship which came to Earth. It could've also escaped when inside a helicopter as another character (I believe in the prequel film?) and COULD'VE escaped and yet didn't, instead choosing to potentially risk its life on ground. Then later it is shot at by a character in a helicopter. Additionally, it may also just prefer to be on the vast, cold, icy landscape so that, if needed, it could preserve itself, which of course it could not do in the air. We can infer that this is likely why the creature outs itself in the comic here.
There's one thing that nobody seems to get about the thing, not even the writer of these comics: The creature doesn't 'infect' anyone. It simultaneously makes a copy of an organism as it consumes it. So technically it eats it's victims. This is why there is only clothing left of the people it mimics...
If the process is how you described, how did it make a seperate Bennings clone so quick? What about Carter in the prequel? The impression I get is that it merges a victim into its mass and replaces your cells, or it takes you over from the inside.
@@anthonygreico9735 But it didn't make a clone of Bennings at all. The 'imitation' of him that ran out into the snow WAS actually the creature itself. It had only almost completed it's mimicking of Bennings, which is why one of it's arms still looked alien when the other guys torched it and burned it up. And that's why Macready said "We got to it before it could finish. If it had finished, it would have looked and acted just like Bennings".
What about “Carter” from the prequel? I am afraid I don’t understand your reply. Of course Bennings was the creature at the time. What I meant was the process is NOT like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” type deal.
@@anthonygreico9735 Its been a while since Iv'e seen the prequel so I can't remember the 'Carter' reference you speak of...But in a nutshell basically what I'm saying is that the Thing actually 'eats' its victims and at the same time its doing so, its not just consuming nutrients, but ALSO assimilating the DNA of it's prey into its own. This is not only spoken of in the original 1982 movie but also clarified in the prequel scene showing the first victim being undigested in the cut open stomach of the burnt creature that was torched...Again, this is why there was never any remains of it's victims left, only clothing.
Ok I got you. So we both agree it is not an “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” type thing. But do you know it can also take you over from the inside? As for Carter, just search for it on here. Let me know what you think.

To me, yes. I'm sure Dark Horse had to license the rights to publish these comics, which, in my mind, makes these official continuations of the Carpenter film.
slowmutants That's cool. I regret but at the same time I don't regret reading the comics. I loved the ambiguous ending to the film. And now, to know what actually happened is kind of is kind of bittersweet.

...............................Spoiler alert if you have not watched this yet............................... That was fantastic, I had many ideas on the end of the film. This really was not something I thought about as the film makes you believe one of them is contaminated at the end of the film, great little twist.
That is where I'm off next, thank you. Unfortunately I thought I would read the comments and some plonker did not put spoiler alert and well spoiled the next one. You know what I'm talking about from my comment. But that does not detract from this video, great thanks.
But that sequence where The Thing takes over that submarine is too short shrift - - it needs to be elaborated. This is a military sub and that creature gets on board and takes over in no time.
Hikaru isabeau Anything that kills carbon based organisms can be highly effective on this monster. I'm pretty sure that even if was dumped into a canister of acid it wouldn't survive, it depends to much on living cells so yeah basically anything that kills you, from corrosive substances to explosives, will also most likely kill it.
Hey, I just had an idea! What if The Thing's biochemistry created a substance that allowed it to be frozen without cell destruction caused by expanding ice crystals. This same substance will then cause it to become very combustible, as Childs notes at 17:30 Certain frogs and insects have this ability.

Yes, Climate of Fear is next, probably by the end of 2016.
slowmutants
great stuff, such a long wait but I look forward to it! (BTW - there is a story called "The Things" told from the aliens perspective, not a comic but I am sure you could tell the story and add visuals)
Omar's Music & Tech Just wanted to let you know that Climate of Fear is now online!
Awesome, I think I will re-watch the others before Climate of Fear. I wonder if it comes with the same freaky intro...
We think childs is the thing after the end of the movie
Also your intro is freaky as f**K
Which freesound user provided the music for the scene in which MacReady returned to Outpost #31?
FiercePierce86 Ah, the music is not Freesound related, just the sound fx. The music is manipulated by The Slow Mutants.
slowmutants Ah, thanks for letting me know. You guys did a great job with the original music. You really captured the same feel with music that was featured in the film. John Carpenter would be proud.
...............................Spoiler alert if you have not watched this yet...............................
That was fantastic, I had many ideas on the end of the film. This really was not something I thought about as the film makes you believe one of them is contaminated at the end of the film, great little twist.
daniel smith Watch Climate of Fear next. It's a direct continuation of this.
That is where I'm off next, thank you. Unfortunately I thought I would read the comments and some plonker did not put spoiler alert and well spoiled the next one. You know what I'm talking about from my comment. But that does not detract from this video, great thanks.
Haha that sucks.
But that sequence where The Thing takes over that submarine is too short shrift - - it needs to be elaborated. This is a military sub and that creature gets on board and takes over in no time.
Who did the soundtrack? It is brilliant.
Brecconable Thank you.
awesome
Is that connected to climate of fear ?
Nick Frost Yes. Climate of Fear starts where this ends.
my dog this is amazing
Question... Can inferno bullets be highly effective on the thing?
Hikaru isabeau Anything that kills carbon based organisms can be highly effective on this monster. I'm pretty sure that even if was dumped into a canister of acid it wouldn't survive, it depends to much on living cells so yeah basically anything that kills you, from corrosive substances to explosives, will also most likely kill it.
Hey, I just had an idea! What if The Thing's biochemistry created a substance that allowed it to be frozen without cell destruction caused by expanding ice crystals. This same substance will then cause it to become very combustible, as Childs notes at 17:30
Certain frogs and insects have this ability.

Sounds plausible.
This art style, is it all colored pencils, or what else?
Karsten Von Fjellheim Yeah I love the art style here! Not sure, there are obvious brush strokes. Acrylic maybe?
Karsten Von Fjellheim thats how comics were in the 90s and early 2000s
slowmutants I think they think you did the comic...he he....that’s y he was asking, he just didn’t say what “YOU” used, but I can tell what he meant.
