Thanks so much for posting this! My parents had this car when I was growing up, same year, color and everything. They bought it new a week before I was born and brought me home from the hospital in it. I remember always thinking how huge and luxurious it seemed! My mom totaled it back in '04 after driving into a column in a parking garage (she didn't wait for the windshield to defrost and drove right into it). I rarely see these cars on the road anymore today.
Completely Agree, the 202 was so much better built than the 203. I owned a 98 C230 and it was a great car, when time came to sell it due to age and miles, I couldn't buy into the 203.
You gotta love the W202. Have a 99 C230 Kompressor. 238K on the clock and she purs like a kitten. Still pulls good when i need it. Do the maintenance yourself. Not expensive to own and a pretty safe car, they are solid.
The last “real” Mercedes Benz made, straight from Germany. I owned one of these; perfect sleeper car! I love the classic edgy Benz looks. Also doesn’t seem like it, but this thing can go. I hit 135MPH easily in this thing.
@@vincentsolito8234 I would say w211. I’ve owned an E500 and E550 (500 had 200k miles and 550 currently has 149k) and the interiors on both held up well. Everything works fine.
I had one of these the year this video was published! The first production year, 1994. Classic, elegant, and nostalgic. Cheap and well built luxury! ❤️👌😎💯👍
The key fob was only used for remote central locking cars. Back in the day you would get a infrared fob with the sensors on the driver's door and behind the interior back view mirror.
It's in an even stupider location in the W203. It's under the hood this time but the main cabin air filter is right over top of the battery. If the battery leaks and you have the AC or heat on battery fumes will trickle into the cabin.
Im thinking on buying one tomorrow is from a co worker he asked me for 2000$ it has 194000 miles but it runs like a champ it feels like a new car i was going 80mph on the highway with him and it felt amazing it was owned by an old lady who had it only for pleasure cruises well taken care of it looks brand new original paint and rims it has led lights a nice audio system turns on to the touch in overall really beautiful vintage car its a 95 btw should i buy it?
Putzak ive owned one too now for about 7 months, its a 95 c280 inline v6 only had 143,000 miles when i purchased it, now it has 154,000 an climbing. things a beast, when i purchased it, it needed 2 rear break calipers and rear break pads. and a thermostat. could still use a Fan Motor, but Since than ive had to replace the belt and the alternator, and now im having issues with i think its the MAF sensor, it still starts right up and drives. but i purchased it for 1000 bucks, an have put about 1200 $ worth of work into it in 7 months. so do the math. ill check back in here
My first car aswell done all the work pretty much myself, bought it for 1000$ with 144k miles needed a break caliper an belt, I replaced many things along the road. for the past 4 months ive had a rough idle that im unsure what to do with, i was gonna tamper with it myself, But Im uneducated as its my first vehicle, an a mechanic stop would run me like for all i know 700$ which would just run me dry. I recently replaced my blower motor myself, an saved like 300-400 bucks
the one thing I dont like about it are they tail lights , I own one myself but i would rather have a 190E or something with the skinnier lights in the rear..
Do you happen to know if the wiring harness sold as replacement will avoid the issue of the insulation deteriorating? In other words, can I replace the wires and never have to worry about that known issue?
Once you replace the wires you should not leave the car in the sun, as the harness will disintegrate. You should check the harness periodically as the problem could return, remember the problem is only on pre 1996 models. I have a 1995 C280 and apart from that issue is an amazing car
Mercedes is known for flat and hard seats ? Where I'm from Mercedes is known for comfort and quality. Also the chime when the door is open isn't a annoying it's for your safety
@@eldy1433 yeah honestly if it’s fixed and fine then go for it, get a Bluetooth radio into it and it’s fine, I love driving it, it’s fast and comfortable, idk what’s a good price for it though so u should do some research on that
nice video. I think the 203 is way better quality. the w204 was cheap . benz gave me one when my w203 was getting serviced. the w204 was cheap inside. weird material dash, and seats. rubbery. w203 is way better quality at least inside. just my opinion.
WELL SAID... later Mercs are crap- my w202 is a joy to drive and own..so solid. My w212 2010 is like a KIA...or a HYUNDAI. Its also the MOST unreliable car I ever had and its horrible to drive. Its going ....had enough
Great little comutter car, owned my for 10yrs and it still runs like a champ, the engine is rock solid.Just like anything else just keep it maintained.
Love my 95 c280. Almost at 300 thousand miles and does not burn oil or leak.

I love the w202 but the last of the quality Mercedes would have to be the w210 or r129 as they stayed in production until 02
@Ike N sure
@Ike N the cost cutting wasn't until post merger in 1999. W210 was designed well before that and it shows. I'm guessing you've never owned one

Love classic mercs especially the w202

I LOVE THE TAILLIGHTS OF THIS CAR!!!

inline 6 engine, great torque and highway driving. Not much leg room in the rear seating
I agree with your comments at the end about comparing later C class generations to this one

my mom used to own one. i'm gonna be honest, when I can afford one, i plan to purchase one.
INDIGO VEGAS these cars are cheap as heck now
+dmitri cochrane yeah but the maintenance is pricey. I'm definitely interested in purchasing one though.
I found one for $500 that just needs a head gasket

How did that turn out?
just bought one myself, very happy with it
Putzak I’m planning to buy one next week m what is your verdict and what should i check out before the purchase ?
Chan Tak Zee i live in the Netherlands so they rust a lot. Apart from that service history. They're pretty bulletproof really

We used to have a C250. Brilliant car.
I just bought one of these runs really good need sum work but I really like the car
my 97 C280 has only faced problems with the camshaft solenoid conductor plate and coil packs of course

Apparently the Germans (BMW & Mercedes) knew something everyone else didn't lol :P
German engineering at its finest!

I never understand why they do that .

Lyndon Bishop The very late 203s were ok quality. Like 2000 to 2004 were crap.
i disagree. i have a 07 w203 very good car
Lyndon Bishop Didnt I just say that the late models were good?

Talk about a rev-happy engine
Okay, I will, with someone else 8 years later.
So all of these luxury features, but no cupholder?
Even a decade newer benz wont have them. Why would you want to eat in ypur car?

And have echo, such an improvement!
I would not want to pay for repairs on that pos..
Honestly looks like a piece of shit. Love my w203 it's an 04 and the interior is FLAWLESS ad everything works as it should. That is all.
w203 front end has to be genuinely the worst front-end Mercedes has ever came up with so why don't you like the w202
