Nice review overall, I'm considering investing in that kit but what's more impressive for me is how fast you talk👍👍👍👍(first time seeing one of your videos)
Just got it today to use it for videos, podcasting, and recording music. Eventually vlogging once events and conventions are back. Thanks for the comparison! Glad I picked up and started with the MV88+
Very Helpful review . I was thinking about getting the Zoom 1q7 microphone. Now that I know I can monitor my audio levels . I'm definitely going to purchase the Shure Mv88.
Great comparison and showing these mics- I was so in need of a small mic lately 🤣 Ended up using no external mic with my phone traveling 🤨 Subbed and staying tuned👍
I stopped using the bag cause it was a pain and got a small hard case that fits the tripod. Way easier! It’s also great for using on the road on my laptop in a pinch if needed. Upgrade was worth it to me!
Hi Shelly, this is super helpful, as I am looking to get an external mic for the first time for a new iPhone 11 Pro Max. Most of the time I will be shooting a video of a speaker in a classroom, and may be 20 feet or so away from the speaker. Will this still pick up the audio? If not, is there a better alternative (e.g., a blue tooth lavalier that would work with this phone? Also, can I put this on a taller tripod instead of the short one that comes in the kit? Thank you! I have subscribed to your channel for more good intel. Deb
I have the MV88 and I don't think the video kit is an upgrade from it. They were designed for different purposes. The MV88 is mobile and very practical, I use it to record gigs with my band and I used it last year at Formula 1 race. The Video kit is more suitable for UA-cam recording, thus the stand.
Great video! I just stumbled upon this mic and was actually considering the Rode Vlogger kit but I really like the Manfrotto better and from the sounds of it, this 88+ sounds great.
Nice job on the Motiv's overview! I was on the fence about the + kit, but the original 88 is the way to go in terms of minimal compact hardware along with the Manfrotto combo ($25!). As you mentioned, the + headphone input is awesome... but the steep price tag, not so awesome.
Shelly Saves the Day Unfortunately (not that it’s a bad choice), I’d have to go with the + because I’ll mount it onto a Freefly Movi, which also has a high priced sleeve to mount mics/flashes on the grip! Pandoras Box I tell ya ...but a slick, relatively compact, setup f’sure 🤘🏽
I have noticed the MV88+ does not have the range that the MV88 does. Gains set the same and the 88 is much louder than the MV88+. The difference in audio quality is slight IMHO, but the edge goes to the 88+. Just not sure how much of a factor the range will be. I am torn between the two. The convenience of simple plug and play vs having to make sure you have your mount with your for the 88+
Thank you for this video, really comprehensive, I appreciate it a lot! Thinking of buying this kit although it's a bit more expensive than others, I think it's worth it for the added value and the potential quality of the sound. Cheers!
@@ShellySavesTheDay Thank you for your reply and for sharing your experience. I recently got into streaming, trying Twitch at first and then Instagram. I mainly use my phone and I instantly realized I need better sound. So I've been binge watching microphones for smartphones reviews these past days. Like I said before, really helpful video, thanks a lot :)
I LOVE the backdrop in your video! How did you get that background to appear slightly blurred? It's like the portrait mode on iPhone camera but I can not figure out how to do that in videos...
Great comparison! Have you tried the Rode VideoMic Me? I have the VideoMic GO (the old version so it's essentially the same as the Mic Me, only it goes on a hotshoe instead of clipping to the phone). It works well for me... when I remember to turn the volume on my camera to an appropriate level! haha I sing too, so when I vlog I need to set the camera/mic level to be hotter than when I sing (I'm a loud singer). Anyway!! Just wondering the difference between the Rode and the Sure!
Hello! I’m trying to find a mic I can use with my iPhone that can be used at a distance of 10-15 feet for interviews with multiple people. Can you advise if either of these mics would work? I also have a tripod that I use for the iPhone and I’m wondering if the MV88+ additions would render it unusable

Hi Shelly,Great video. Question: I don't use my phone a tone for filming, sometimes. But, do either of these mics work on a PC or Mac to do a podcast? Or have you made a video of a mic that you could recommend to use for a podcast using a Mac.I've checked out a few mics and they say all the same information, great sound and great for using doing a podcast. Yeah, so convincing. Thank you Sergio
I'd say they sound the same, one just offers more options and connection types and the ability to monitor sound. So buy it based on how you'll use it cause they sound the same to me.
Is there a way to charge your phone at the same time you're using the MV88+? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this with the MV88. I've watched SO many videos on these microphones and I can't find a single one where anyone talks about this issue! I'm doing long musical livestreams and it's a real issue when my phone battery gets low and starts to affect my livestream! I need to be able to charge my iPhone at the same time I'm using the microphone. Please help!
It's supposed to be used on flight mode due to feedback that can come when the phone signal is on. So it not ideal for Facebook live. Rode has one similar that I believe can be used for Facebook live and it won't give a feedback sound.
hey @minnesotajack1 thanks for watching! It's certainly not the first time I've gotten this comment but I can't really change my delivery. Sometimes I get excited and talk fast, that's just me. Glad you found that you can click the gear icon and slow down playback though. Sorry I don't drink redbulls, hope that helps, if not, I hope you find a channel that you like!
I have the mv88+ and want to use it for videos on facebook and/or youtube live I have an s9+, checked all my settings + the exact camera BUT when i try to use it for SOCIAL MEDIA... The most useful review/comparison of MV88 and MV88+ among several that I watched. Thanks!
@@ShellySavesTheDay Of course. For example, nobody mentioned the vertical video limitation.
Great review. Just got the 88+ and am looking forward to experimenting
Hope you love it! It’s a good mic!

Are they both compatible with iPhone X? I’ve heard issues with bugs.

Can you do audio tests/comparisons between the 2 mics please?
